Work Text:
Christopher frowned when he heard Abigail say that his father had asked her to pick him up. He then thought about learning once he'd been grilled as a child about someone he barely knew coming to him, saying his father had asked them to pick him up, and that he should never get into their car without checking with his father. He looked at Abigail, "I need to use the bathroom and grab something from my locker. I'll be back."
"Hurry," said Abigail.
A few minutes later, Christopher was in the boys' bathroom as he pulled out his phone and pressed his father's contact.
"Aren't you supposed to be on the bus right now, Chris?" Eddie asked.
"Yes, but Abigail showed up and told me you asked her to pick me up from school. Then I remembered being told that if someone I barely know approaches me and says you asked them to pick me up without warning me in advance or asking the school to send me a message telling me who's picking me up, I shouldn't get in their car. Did you ask Abigail to pick me up?" Christopher asked.
Eddie swore as he rushed to grab his keys, "I did not ask Abigail to pick you up, Christopher. Get somewhere safe and call 9-1-1. I'll get there ASAP."
"OK, Dad. I'll head to the Principal's office and stay there," said Christopher.
A few minutes later, he rushed to the office as fast as he could and told them someone was trying to kidnap him. The secretary quickly ushered him to the Principal's office as 9-1-1 was called.
A short while later, Abigail was arrested for attempted kidnapping and was later charged with stalking and vandalism when Eddie found his tires slashed, too.
The next day at school, all the students attended an assembly where the school resource officer and visiting police officers warned them that, even as teenagers, they had to be cautious about stranger danger. Emails were also sent out to all parents or guardians, warning them about a student who was almost kidnapped on school grounds by someone approaching them about their father sending them to pick them up from school without permission from the parent. The email asked them to talk to their kids about not getting into someone's car if they're told their parents sent them to pick them up without a heads-up.
