Sip Lightly, Lest You Drown (In Vinegar)

Summary:

“Bro…” Shang Qinghua asked drunkenly, “why’d you leave’m?” The saddened brunette heard a hearty sigh as he felt himself being lifted off his stiff couch. “Mm, bro? When did you get strong…?” he inquired as he looked up.

If Shang Qinghua had been sober, his heart probably would’ve given out. Instead, he shakily questioned, “Mobei… Jun?”

OR

Mobei Jun hears Shen Yuan refer to Shang Qinghua with a nickname, what ensues is pure jealousy and two idiots trying to understand each other's feelings.

Notes:

In case you didn't know, drinking vinegar is a Chinese term used to describe when someone is jealous!
I suggest you read this fic while imagining Sasaki to Miyano bl type sparkles, because that's exactly what I imagined while writing this!
Enjoy!! <33333

Work Text:

By the standards of most people, it’s rather late for any of the wild excursions the human mind tends to conjure up. Unfortunately, Shen Yuan and Shang Qinghua are not most people.

“Airplane, I don’t care if you’re pissed, I’m not saying it,” came a snarky voice.

“...You don’t love me anymore,” whined Shang Qinghua, very obviously inebriated. The author was currently sulking on the sofa nestled in the corner of his not so large apartment. The problem at hand had been brought on by Shen Yuan’s unwillingness to reciprocate Shang Qinghua’s, ‘Love you, bro’. He really hadn’t meant to upset his Airplane Bro! Truly! He just happened to be with Luo Binghe at the time, and just happened to not hear his friend as Shen Yuan pushed his clingy boyfriend out of the apartment! It was just how the stars aligned!

“It’s a stretch to say I loved you in the first place,” Shen Yuan scoffed.

“What…” Shang Qinghua thought, “all these years you’ve secretly hated me!?”

Ohmyfuckinggod- that’s not what I said, Airplane!”

Amidst the pair’s incessant squabbling, they failed to notice the ding! of Shang Qinghua’s doorbell. A new pair shrugged and sauntered their way inside.

“A-Yuannnnn…” Luo Binghe complained, “let’s go home, I’ll cook for you…”

Shen Yuan looked as though his guardian angel had manifested in front of his very eyes. “Yes, Binghe. Let’s leave now, actually,” Shen Yuan replied rather enthusiastically. Luo Binghe hummed as he took his lover's hand in his and left Shang Qinghua’s apartment.

Waking from a messy slumber in an equally messy bed made a rude awakening for Shang Qinghua. Not only was his head pounding from what he could only assume to be a hangover, but Shang Qinghua could hear what was undoubtedly another person in his home!

Hesitantly, he rose from his entanglement of blankets and sheets and moved to stand on his feet for what felt like the first time in at least three centuries. Shang Qinghua’s mind felt like it was going a thousand miles a minute as the brunette ran through every horrible way his body would be dismembered and thrown into a river.

Slowly- very slowly, Shang Qinghua made towards the lamp sitting peacefully on his nightstand, blissfully unaware of what its use was soon to be. Bludgeoning an intruder with a household item was certainly not on Shang Qinghua’s to do list today, but he wasn’t above it. So, with as much caution as he could muster, Shang Qinghua begrudgingly pushed open his door.

It was the scent that hit him first. It was… unexpected to say the least. Shang Qinghua almost thought his nose was broken, because what he smelled wasn’t some rotting corpse; it was instead a scent he was rather familiar with. In fact, he was so familiar with this scent that his mouth began to pool with saliva, and he found himself having to hold back from walking out of his room.

It was obviously a trap! The mystery murderer in Shang Qinghua’s home was obviously trying to lure him out with the tantalizing aroma of his favorite food! Pulled noodles!

“What the fuck…” Shang Qinghua murmured. He only realized how much of a dumbass saying anything in his situation made him after he had uttered what he thought were going to be his final words. The man made a choked noise as he slapped a hand over his mouth far too late.

Any sounds he had previously heard coming from the kitchen came to an abrupt halt as footsteps steadily approached the entrance to Shang Qinghua’s room.

Shit shit shit shit!

In a fumbling panic, Shang Qinghua unceremoniously slammed his door shut and brandished his ultra-intimidating lamp in a very sad, very desperate, last ditch attempt to keep his life. Tears welled in his eyes as Shang Qinghua watched his doorknob slowly turn and, finally, swing open.

The sight he was met with was a towering, hunk of a man if he’d ever seen one. And it turned out that, actually, he had! They’d shared countless interactions in the past, and Shang Qinghua happened to be quite fond of the man standing in front of him. For who was the mystery murderer that was definitely trying to kill Shang Qinghua then Mobei Jun?

“…”

“…”

“Why are you in my house!?”

Mobei Jun stepped forward.

“My humble abode!?”

Another step.

Not dissuaded, Shang Qinghua continued squawking, “MY PLACE OF SANCTUARY-”

He was cut off by a bowl being pressed into his chest.

“Noodles.”

“I-uh, for what?”

Mobei Jun glared, “For eating, what else would you do with noodles?”

“Bondage?” Shang Qinghua tried and then winced, because, that was certainly not the appropriate thing to say right now, and also probably not the preferred material for such a thing. Mobei Jun raised a brow but said nothing further. Shang Qinghua sighed as he took the steaming bowl and plopped down onto his bed. Upon further examination, the noodles didn’t look half bad. Sure, the actual noodle part needed some work, but they smelled divine, and looks could be deceiving!

Taking a suspicious slurp revealed all Shang Qinghua needed to know: that they were delicious. Hungry dogs run faster, and Shang Qinghua could probably qualify as a pretty hungry dog right now, so run fast he did. He ran so fast that the bowl was gone in just a few minutes, leaving him strangely proud and Mobei Jun strangely disgusted.

Without so much as another word, Mobei Jun stood up to leave.

“Hey! Where are you going!?” Shang Qinghua shouted after wiping his mouth.

“Home.” Mobei Jun answered without stopping.

Offended, Shang Qinghua made his strategic move, launching himself toward the brick wall that is Mobei Jun. “Not until you tell me why I woke up to you in my house!”

Surely bewildered, Mobei Jun couldn’t have anticipated such a gesture, and was caught off guard. Shang Qinghua was left barreling into him at light speed, only stopped by a shout cutting through the air.

“Shang Qinghua!”

Wearily, Shang Qinghua looked over his shoulder, already knowing who the voice belonged to.

“Would it kill you to act a little sophisticated once in a while? Maybe if you learned grace with others it would show in your shitty stories…” Shen Yuan walked over and began to tug at Shang Qinghua’s cheeks.

As if conceding, the brunette dropped his offensive position and murmured, “Yes, Shen-Bro.” Mobei Jun had since stopped to glance at the newcomer, earning a sarcastic smile in return.

“Why are you in Qinghua’s house…?” he questioned.

!?

Shen Yuan looked askance toward Shang Qinghua, who hadn’t failed to miss the irony of that statement, even in his sleep deprived state. The author shrugged, apparently still riding the high he received from the noodles.

Feeling quite unwelcome in a house that was surely much more his than it was Mobei Jun’s, Shen Yuan answered, “Me and Binghe wanted to visit a new tea place. It’s owned by some friends. You two are welcome to join if you want,” staring at Shang Qinghua’s sloppy appearance seemed to make him reconsider, “you don’t have to, of course.”

It wasn’t often Shang Qinghua got a break from writing, he had deadlines to meet after all, but maybe a few hours out of the house could do him some good. His eyes wandered to Mobei Jun, unexpectedly meeting his gaze.

“I’ll go, if Qinghua wants to,” he replied.

With all eyes on him, Shang Qinghua stammered, “Yeah! That’ll be fun, I just-uh, need a few minutes. Give me ten?”

Shen Yuan nodded and made his way to leave Shang Qinghua’s room, adding, “Binghe and I will get a seat, I’ll send you the address. Don’t be long.” He cast a sidelong glance at the remaining two, before snickering and taking his leave. Confused, but still rather passive, Shang Qinghua brushed the action off as one of his Cucumber-Bro’s eccentricities.

He turned toward Mobei Jun, “I just need to throw on clean clothes and brush my teeth and hair, I won’t be long.” The other man lowered his eyes, but didn’t speak. Seeing the gesture as awkward, Shang Qinghua quickly continued, “But don’t feel pressured to wait or anything! I’m not expecting you to, sorry!”

Mobei Jun tried to get a word in, but Shang Qinghua had already rushed into his bathroom, clearly embarrassed. The stone faced man broke character and chuckled at the author’s skittish nature.

Shang Qinghua slammed the bathroom door. What the hell, Airplane! What were you thinking, wanting him to wait on you!?

“Ah! Damnit!” he berated himself. He couldn’t have possibly expected cold-as-ice Mobei Jun to want to wait on him. The self deprecating thoughts only continued as he readied himself for the day ahead. Shang Qinghua murmured curses at himself in the mirror as he brushed his teeth and combed his hair. He stopped when he realized his hair looked more like he was fighting with it than untangling it.

Once he looked presentable, Shang Qinghua stepped back into his room, almost happy Mobei Jun hadn’t waited on him. Almost. Mobei Jun was utterly, undeniably hot, and Shang Qinghua fell victim to his charm instantly. He remembered it hadn’t been long after he and Shen Yuan had started university that he’d run into Mobei Jun. It hadn’t been the most graceful of first meetings, Shen Yuan had been right about some things, but Mobei Jun didn’t have to be nice to be his dream man, certainly not. Afterall, most people weren’t particularly pleasant after you spilled three people’s worth of coffee on them!

Shang Qinghua snorted a laugh at the memory, Mobei Jun had certainly grown on him as more than just a crush, and he hoped it was the same for his coffee casualty.

Amid his reminiscing, Shang Qinghua had succeeded in finding a nice outfit. A black tee-shirt paired with dark wash jeans and a zip-up made for a simple, yet neat look. He grabbed his wallet and keys from his dresser, slipped on his sneakers, and locked his door on his way out of his apartment.

As he left his complex, the brunette stopped short of his car when he saw the unexpected scene before him. Sitting in the parking lot was the unmistakable, rich-boy-car of Mobei Jun! It seemed he really had waited. Shang Qinghua stopped himself. Surely he just needed the address, or wanted more thorough directions? Even with this logic, he doubted. Mobei Jun was now the acquaintance of not only him and Shen Yuan, but Luo Binghe as well. Why not just ask them?

Shang Qinghua decided to push down his anxiety and knock on the car’s window. Looking up from his phone, Mobei Jun rolled down the glass.

“Mobei? Did you need something? I figured you had already left,” Shang Qinghua inquired nervously.

Mobei Jun looked pleased at his arrival, stating “Waiting on you.” The shorter man froze.

“Waiting on… me? That’s super nice of you,” Shang Qinghua laughed awkwardly.

Mobei Jun stared, seemingly waiting on something. Shang Qinghua realized it was him and opened the car door. “You really didn’t have to, I don’t want to bother you or anything..”

“Gas is expensive.”

Well, Shang Qinghua definitely couldn’t argue with that.

“And…” the author looked over to Mobei Jun as he buckled himself in, “we’re friends.”

Arriving at the tea shop, Shang Qinghua and Mobei Junwho were quickly becoming a package dealwere waved over to a small table in the corner. Shang Qinghua wasn’t entirely convinced his legs wouldn’t give out as he made his way over to Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe. He had been in a daze since Mobei Jun’s declaration of friendship in the car. This was huge news! Sure, he knew they had been acquaintances, and he’d always considered them friends, but for Mobei Jun to outwardly state such a thing? Had he died and ascended to the heavens?

Luo Binghe sat beaming at his lover, seemingly entranced at the way the streams of sunlight from the window glimmered on Shen Yuan’s hair. Shang Qinghua wondered if he looked the same when he stared at Mobei Jun’s pecs. Luo Binghe grinned at the approaching pair.

“Hello, Mobei,” he stated as he stretched, “and Shang Qinghua.”

Mobei Jun nodded in response while he pulled out a chair, “Qinghua.” The man looked awfully expectant for someone who had said a single word. Shang Qinghua looked at Mobei Jun’s imploring face, then down at the chair he had pulled out. An awkward silence ensued before the author understood Mobei Jun’s intent.

He scrambled to sit down.

“Thanks… Mobei. You’ve been a huge help today,” why did he sound so robotic?

“Mn.”

Shang Qinghua fidgeted as he watched Mobei Jun take a seat after him. Why was he acting like this!? Mobei Jun being overly… gentlemanly was really starting to scare Shang Qinghua. Was he being used as some sort of experiment!? Did Mobei Jun have someone in mind? Was this just some trial run to practice his courting? Shang Qinghua’s head didn’t stop spinning until he received a notification on his phone.

Ding!

While Luo Binghe and Mobei Jun looked over the menu, Shen Yuan had sent him a text.

Bro, what’s wrong? You look scared shitless?

It’s fine if this place isn’t your thing, we could always leave.

Shang Qinghua glanced at Shen Yuan and shook his head, putting on his most convincing smile.

Just tired, call me when we’re home tho.

Need to rant.

He pressed send. Finally taking a second to look at the menu, Shang Qinghua perused through it. He had never been good at making decisions, and for such a small shop they sure had plenty of options.

“They have chamomile.”

“Hm?” Shang Qinghua turned his head toward Mobei Jun.

“Right here,” Mobei Jun pointed. Sure enough, printed at the very bottom of the menu was a hot serving of chamomile tea. He was grateful Mobei Jun had spotted it, as he definitely wouldn’t have made it that far down. Shang Qinghua had happened upon the drink after hearing it helped with sleep. He wasn’t sure if it was the tea that had improved his mood, or the changing of bad habits, but he was fond of the taste. So, for the past year, he made a point to enjoy a cup of the blend often.

Mobei Jun had really saved Shang Qinghua, as the server chose that moment to come take their orders. And, once he was there, Shang Qinghua realized he recognized him.

“Shen Yuan? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” Liu Qingge frowned.

“Well, this wasn’t exactly a planned thing,” Shen Yuan said with a wave, "besides, then you would’ve expected us, which ruins the surprise.”

“Expectation is the point of a heads up! If I had known I wouldn’t have worn this stupid uniform,” Liu Qingge spat, tugging at the collar of his shirt.

Shang Qinghua wasn’t the most attentive of his surroundings, it had taken him a few beats to even recognize Liu Qingge, let alone register what he was wearing. Scrutinizing his outfit made him let out an unexpected snort, which he quickly covered with his hand. Liu Qingge had been forced to wear a light brown blouse with pants a few shades darker, both garments littered with tiny embroidered flowers and petals. It looked nice on Liu Qingge, really it did! He was strikingly pretty, but to anyone who knew him it was certainly not the style of the renowned fight instigator. It almost made him look like a teddy bear.

Liu Qingge glared at Shang Qinghua, which would’ve been scary, had he not been wearing teddy bear apparel. Shang Qinghua only giggled louder.

“It’s nice, Qingge,” he started, “if teddy bear was the look you were going for,” Shang Qinghua coughed. Shen Yuan lost it.

In the end, Liu Qingge got their orders down, Shang Qinghua only getting smacked once with a notepad, but remaining otherwise unharmed. Shen yuan was still letting out stifled giggles as the fighter retreated to the kitchen, causing Shang Qinghua to do the same. Mobei Jun showed a smile the author didn’t seem to catch.

After poking fun at Liu Qingge, the air felt a little less suffocating for Shang Qinghua. The joking and laughter he shared with his Cucumber-Bro seemed to lighten the mood, making it easier to relax. Outings like this rarely stared well for him, it felt as though he needed some sort of trigger to really enjoy himself, but once he found it, the rest came easy.

No one had ordered any of the snacks from the menu’s selection, and as a result, their drinks came out quickly. Liu Qingge appeared from the kitchenthis time in a hoodieholding the group’s respective orders.

He set the drinks down on the table, sliding them over to their owners one at a time.

“Thank you, Qingge,” Shang Qinghua sang, face beaming,

“Yea, yea. Whatever keeps you quiet,” Liu Qingge grunted, but his face betrayed a small smile.

“Don’t pretend you don’t love us. We’re your best friends, right?” Shen Yuan batted his lashes.

Creeped out, Liu Qingge scoffed and walked away.

Shang Qinghua was just about to reach for his tea when a hand shooed him away. Confused, he looked toward Mobei Jun as he reached to take his cup.

“It’s hot,” Mobei Jun explained as he blew on the dark liquid. Well, he wasn’t dumb, he knew that much!

“You don’t have to do that for me, it’ll cool down on its own,” Shang Qinghua mumbled. Mobei Jun’s oddness was really getting out of hand today.

“I want to.”

Shang Qinghua was glad Mobei Jun had taken the drink from him, otherwise he probably would’ve spat it out. Addled, he looked at the accompanying pair to see if either one had caught that, but Luo Binghe was too busy trying to get Shen Yuan to drink from his cup.

As Mobei Jun sat his tea back down, Shang Qinghua wondered just how many times he had been rendered speechless today by suddenly-a-gentleman Mobei Jun. It was definitely a feat to be proud of, since he was truly a die hard rambler. Shang Qinghua contemplated as he sipped his warm tea.

     ❅   ˙    .     ˙       ☀     ˙     .     ˙      ❅     ˙    .     ˙    ☀     ˙    .     ˙    ❅     ˙    .     ˙    ☀

The author isn’t sure he’s going to survive the ride home. Mobei Jun had insisted on paying, but Shang Qinghua is nothing if not stubborn, and got him to concede. Bidding Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe farewell leaves the two alone, and the silence is deafening.

Shang Qinghua is vibrating in his seat before he’s even buckled in, and he has to remind himself that, even if things are painfully awkward now, all he needs is another trigger to get himself going. Once he finds something—anything—to talk about, he’s golden.

So, he gets to searching. He rummages through his routine, wondering if there’s anything new he’s doing. Shang Qinghua knows from experience that this trick works often, it provides the segway he needs in order to keep the constant stream of words flowing from his mouth. It provides a way to distract Mobei Jun from how wholly nervous he feels.

It takes him until the car has started, but he finds what he’s looking for.

“Y’know, I started looking recently, at shelters,” he started, “I wanted to see if maybe I could find a cat.”

Mobei Jun put his hand on the steering wheel, “Qinghua likes cats?”

“Mhm! I’ve always been a cat person, they’re fairly independent, so it’s like, they really choose you, I guess? Except for the really cuddly ones, but I’ve never really seen a cat in real life that loves people. Just on social media and such,” Shang Qinghua waved his hands as he spoke. “I guess it’s pretty rare for cats to be like that with just anyone, though. Like I said, they choose.”

“Mn.”

“What about you, Mobei,” Shang Qinghua wondered, “cats or dogs?”

Mobei Jun thought for a moment before speaking, “We never really had animals when I was young. Expensive furniture made it hard to convince my parents to have big pets, but…” he paused.

Interested, Shang Qinghua pried, “But?”

“I had a hamster.”

“Oh, really? What was its name?

“...Nibbles.”

Shang Qinghua would like to say he didn’t laugh, but that wouldn’t be true.

Feeling as though he finally had a good starting point, the writer started spouting off whatever else came to his mind. Sometimes asking questions, sometimes just rambling, and it remained that way until Mobei Jun pulled into the parking lot of his apartment complex.

Feeling like he had just completed a job well done, Shang Qinghua sighed as he unbuckled his seatbelt. “I had a good time, I’ll see you. And thanks for driving, I’ll have to return the favor sometime!”

And now he just has to retreat to his room, curl up in bed, and rant to Cucumber-Bro about how weird Mobei Jun has been lately-

“Shang Qinghua.”

He stopped.

“Do I…” Mobei Jun grimaced as though the words hurt to say, “do I make Qinghua uncomfortable?”

Puzzled by this turn of events, Shang Qinghua stammered as he explained, “No! I mean- today’s just really been an off kind of day. It’s not your fault! Today just started differently—which is fine— but it threw me off balance, y’know?”

Mobei Jun…winced? Is that what that expression was? Whatever it was, it pulled at Shang Qinghua’s heart strings enough to get him to sit back in his seat and listen to Mobei Jun.

“You’re still rambling. Like how you do when you’re upset. Qinghua doesn’t have to lie for my sake, I can leave you alone if it would make you feel better.”

Is that what he thought was happening? Well, Mobei Jun wasn’t that mistaken, Shang Qinghua was certainly nervous, but being driven around all day by your smoking hot crush does that to a man! How was he supposed to act ‘normal’ in the car with Mobei Jun!?

“Mobei, you don’t make me uncomfortable. I ramble with everyone! I’m just filling the silence is all. I do it with Shen Yuan equally as much!” At the mention of Shen Yuan, Mobei Jun’s face seemed to darken.

“That’s different.” Was all Mobei Jun said.

Shang Qinghua blanked. How was rambling with Shen Yuan any different than it was with Mobei Jun? It was all for the same reason!

When Mobei Jun made eye contact with Shang Qinghua and saw the uncertainty on his face, he continued, “You and Shen Yuan are close. It’s not the same.”

Shang Qinghua was saddened by this. “Are we not close as well?” he asked.

Realizing he had made a mistake, but not wanting to back down, Mobei Jun tried once again to express his distaste, “You and Shen Yuan are closer,” he argued. “You have special nicknames for each other, and-” Mobei Jun seemed to be getting more frustrated as he went on, ending with, “it’s not fair.”

It finally clicked.

“Are you jealous?”

Mobei Jun didn’t reply.

Surely this couldn’t have been the reason Mobei Jun was acting weird, right? All the little things that happened started to add up. The favors, the words, the implications, it all was making sense.

“Come inside.”

“What?” Mobei Jun asked dumbly.

“I’m not doing this out here, so come inside.” Shang Qinghua repeated.

Silently, Mobei Jun did as he was told, and followed Shang Qinghua into his apartment. When the shorter of the two stole a glance at Mobei Jun, he seemed fidgety. Serves him right, Shang Qinghua thought.

Turning on the light to his living room, Shang Qinghua tossed his belongings onto the side table next to his door, he would put them up later. Irritated, he faced his Mobei Jun shaped problem.

“For starters, you don’t make me uncomfortable. I’m only being weird because you are, and so what if me and Shen Yuan have nicknames? We’re friends, Mobei, it’s not like I belong to you.” That seemed to catch Mobei Jun’s attention.

Shang Qinghua heaved a heavy sigh as he plopped down on the couch, “I’m not sure what’s up with you, I’m not sure you are either, but you shouldn’t be upset because of some nickname, and besides, who else actually calls me Qinghua?”

Mobei Jun froze.

“...Sit down, you look scary when you loom.”

“I don’t loom,” Mobei Jun grumbled as he sat down next to the brunette.

“You do. You loom and mope. And it’s obvious. Why won’t you just tell me why you're being so odd? What’s with all the..” Shang Qinghua waved his hands around, gesturing towards Mobei Jun, “gentleman-y stuff.” Pained, the writer gritted his teeth as he asked, “Is it a girl?”

At that, Mobei Jun got up, heading for the door.

“Hey! Mobei Jun! I brought you in here to talk this out and you’ve barely said a word! You’re not allowed to leave until you tell me what the hell’s wrong!” With no one there to stop him, Shang Qinghua was finally allowed to utilize his ultimate tactic, launching himself at the enemy.

He collided into Mobei Jun’s brick wall of a back, knocking them both to the ground with a harsh thud!

Rolling over to face him, Mobei Jun shouted, “Shang Qinghua!”

In their current position, they could’ve been mistaken for a pair of lovers, intertwined in the throes of passion and lust. Shang Qinghua straddled Mobei Jun as he struggled to hold him down.

“I’m not getting off! You can’t leave until you talk to me! We’re going to settle this,” Shang Qinghua grunted, “like adults!”

“How mature of you to throw yourself on me!” Mobei Jun commented, clearly annoyed. Mobei Jun was in much better shape than Shang Qinghua, there was no reason why he couldn’t toss the latter aside like a ragdoll and be on his way. Except for maybe he didn’t want to.

Shang Qinghua didn’t fall short of this.

“If you don’t start talking I’m going to…” going to what? Hit him? Scream? Kiss him? Mobei Jun seemed to be wondering the same thing.

“Shang Qinghua. Get off.”

“No! Why are you so stubborn? Let me help! You said it yourself. We’re friends! You call me Qinghua, not even my parents do that!”

Something in Mobei Jun cracked.

“I don’t want to be friends with you!”

Shang Qinghua considered punching him, but decided humiliation was the better tactic. Mobei Jun looked more stunned than Shang Qinghua at his exclamation, which gave the brunette an opportunity.

Shang Qinghua’s hands moved fast and pinched Mobei Jun’s cheeks, stretching and pulling every which way.

“Why are you so cold! You’re stubborn, and spoiled, and…”

“And you’re so stupidly hot! And you’re mean to me sometimes and I don’t care! You have a bad attitude and it doesn’t even matter to me!”

“Shang Qinghua…” Mobei Jun looked perplexed, not half as mad as Shang Qinghua expected him to be.

“Shut up! You don’t get to talk, I’ll just have to pinch you more! Does it hurt? I hope it does! You say hurtful things, and I’m not even mad because I’m head over heels for you! Because you’re perfect in every way except that stupid mouth! Which is why I’m pinching you…” Shang Qinghua sniffled, and removed his hands from Mobei Jun’s face.

Mobei Jun stared up at the man on top of him, his mouth felt dry, he felt like he needed to move. To do something. To say something.

“Qinghua,” he tried.

“Shut up, do I need to pinch you more?” Shang Qinghua responded, wiping his face on his sleeve.

“I'm sorry.”

Shang Qinghua looked down. Mobei Jun was so pretty. He sniffed, “I don’t believe you.”

Mobei Jun swallowed, “Okay… What can I do? I’ll prove it.”

Shang Qinghua laughed, not entirely sure of what to say.

“Kiss me.”

After a few seconds of staring, Mobei Jun made no move to do anything. Shang Qinghua sighed and stood, “You can go, then. I won’t stop you.”

Mobei Jun stood on legs that felt like jelly, he stumbled. “Qinghua, look at me.”

Exhausted, Shang Qinghua turned.

Infatuated, Mobei Jun grabbed.

Shang Qinghua wondered if having someone’s tongue shoved down your throat was the same as rendering you speechless. If yes, then Mobei Jun had—for the thousandth time that day— rendered him unable to talk, or even think.

He let Mobei Jun lift his body and carry him to the couch, not breaking their connection. Once he was put down, Mobei Jun paused.

In between kisses, he panted, "I'm sorry.”

“I’m sorry I’m spoiled…” kiss, “and difficult…” kiss, “childish…” kiss, “I have a…” kiss, “bad attitude. I’m sorry Qinghua,” Mobei Jun pulled back and gazed into Shang Qinghua’s eyes.

“Okay,” he replied as he sucked in a breath, “I believe you.”
