Somewhere beyond time I'm still waiting.

Summary:

When a wormhole tears Amy Rose out of Sonic’s grasp, she expects the worst—not to wake up face-first in a beautiful, unfamiliar Green Hill.
A city of glass and greenery. Drones in the sky. A future that shouldn’t exist.

As Amy searches for her friends in this strange new era, she follows a familiar symbol straight into a truth that makes her heart stop: some bonds survive time itself… and some reunions hurt more than being lost.

Meanwhile, Sonic refuses to believe Amy is gone forever. He’ll chase her across time to prove it.

Chapter 1: A new opportunity into a mystery

Chapter Text

Amy’s heart felt fuller than it had in months. She had been back from her solo travels, she explored, tried new things, helped out others and she got to know herself better. She had grown more independent, mature and she felt more confident. She didn’t need to rely as much as she did on her friends anymore. Now she can be there for them.

It was actually Sonic you suggested leaving all the stuffy resistance paperwork and go for a walk in the early spring. Amy still felt the same way about sonic, maybe it was more low-key but… She still loved him, no doubt on that. She stopped chasing him ages ago, and also gave him more space. It was hard of course but Amy was more resilient now. Her heart glowed when he whisked the paper out of her hands and told her that the daffodils are bloomin and she should come out and enjoy em. He was making an effort for her. She let him gravitate toward her for once. It felt nice…. No it felt pretty damn amazing!

They both strolled out of the chao garden. Sonic held the gate open for her and bowed with a grin. Amy giggled “thanks Sonic”. He walked with his hands behind his head, breathing in the Spring air. Closing his eyes he took in the feeling. The soft breeze through his quills, the afternoon sun shining on his back and of course her presence.
Sonic was happy when Amy decided to take a trip by herself, she totally deserved it. She talked about it on the flight back from Starfall island. Meeting new friends, finding out more about herself and her passions. It was pretty impressive! She was taking a big step.

Sonic had missed her a lot. The teasing from the team didn’t help either whenever he’s answer her call first or when they found out they wrote to each other… but honestly, he didn’t really care. Amy wasn’t chasing, she was using the time she would have spent waiting… to grow instead.
But now, he liked the feeling of slowing down to match her pace. Her presence didn’t feel suffocating or intense. Just sure, natural. Just how he liked it.

His thoughts paused as he realised Amy wasn’t by his side. He glanced back to see her inspecting the oaks tree trunk, the one they lounge under in the summer. “Yo Ames, whacha up to?” Sonic chuckled as he walked over. Amy looked up and sighed, “I know this is kinda silly” she smiled “I’m looking for the old carvings of our initials I did when I was younger”. She felt around the trunk.
“Aha!” she yelled triumphantly. “Found them” pointing a finger for Sonic to see. Sonic leaned down to look at the markings. “I must’ve coaxed you with chillidogs for you to let me do the heart” Amy sighed at the memory of her old love-sick self.
Sonics gloved hand reached out to touch the markings in the wood. S+A with a little heart around it. Sonic smirked “good craftsmanship” he said tracing the S with his finger. “Did ya really have to coax me?” Amy laughed at the memory “yeah, if I recall, you said I could.. if I made you chillidogs but also if I-” Sonic’s face lit up in realisation “But also if you’d carve Sonic x chillidogs on the other side” “yeah!”.

The pair walked around the tree trunk and laughed when they saw the markings directly on the other side. Sonic’s cheeks warmed at the memory of Amy sticking her tongue out in concentration while using the butter knife from their picnic to clumsily carve this wobbly masterpiece.
“Heh, match made in heaven” Sonic said but lacking his usual tease, instead it replaced with a softness he only reserved for her. Amy looked up at him. Emerald stared into forest green. Sonic knew his blush was visible but stayed. Amy was sure sonic could hear her heart heating.
But then…
-CRACK!-
The sky fractured without warning. Reality itself seemed to tear open with a shriek of warped air and blinding light. A spiralling mass of energy bloomed in front of them, violent and unstable, pulling everything toward it like a living thing with hunger.
Similar to the one at Sonics 17th Birthday party. But it was much stronger then the one 5 years ago.
Shocked, Sonic held Amy tightly against him with one hand while the other wrapped around the tree. The energy force was painfully strong. Until Amy suddenly ripped from his grasp.

“Amy—!”
He lunged forward on instinct, feet skidding against the ground as the force dragged her from his grip. Her fingers slipped from his, and for a terrifying split second, he caught her wrist.
Her eyes were wide. Shocked. Scared.
“Sonic!” she cried.
“I’ve got you!” he snarled through clenched teeth, digging his heels in, muscles screaming as the pull intensified. The air roared around them, debris lifting from the ground, the world bending inward toward the wormhole’s core.
But it wasn’t enough.
The energy surged.

Amy was ripped from his grasp in a flash of pink and white, her scream swallowed by the light as she vanished into the wormhole. The tear snapped shut just as suddenly as it appeared, leaving silence behind. Thick, horrible silence.
Sonic stumbled forward, hands still outstretched.
Gone.
“…Amy?”
No answer.
His chest felt tight, like something had wrapped around his heart and squeezed. He stood there for a second too long, staring at the empty space where she’d been, refusing to believe it.
Then he spun on his heel.
“Tails,” he muttered, already running. “He’ll know where that energy surge came from. He has to know.”

Amy Rose landed face-first into concrete.
“Oof—!”
She groaned, rolling onto her side and pushing herself up, brushing grit from her gloves. Her whole body ached like she’d been dropped from the sky. Which, judging by the circumstances, wasn’t exactly wrong.
“Okay… okay,” she muttered, forcing herself to breathe. “I’m fine. Totally fine.”

She lifted her head, and froze. She wasn’t in a battlefield. Or a crater. Or some dark void between dimensions. She was in a city. A beautiful city.
Smooth sidewalks lined with grass and flowering vines stretched out in neat patterns. Trees grew alongside sleek buildings, their leaves carefully shaped, like nature and technology had reached some kind of agreement. Soft lights were embedded into the pavement, glowing faintly even in the daylight. Above her, small drones zipped by with quiet hums, moving purposefully but not threateningly.
People walked past, such as hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits, birds etc.. all chatting, laughing, completely unbothered by the fact that Amy Rose had just fallen out of thin air.
She flushed.
“Oh thank Chaos,” she muttered. “No one saw me eat the sidewalk.”
She pushed herself fully upright, dusting off her skirt and taking a steadying breath. Panic threatened to rise, sharp and overwhelming—but Amy clenched her fists and forced it down.

You can’t think when you panic, she reminded herself. You’ve been on your solo trip, you’ve learned resilience. Time to put it to good use
She looked around again, slower this time.
That’s when she saw the sign.
A large concrete fountain sat at the centre of the plaza, water cascading gently down its sides. Embedded along its edges were soft LED lights, glowing emerald. And carved cleanly into the stone were the words:
WELCOME TO GREEN HILL
Amy’s breath caught.
“…Green Hill?”

She stared at it, disbelief washing over her. This wasn’t the rolling hills she knew, not exactly. This was bigger. Cleaner. More advanced. But still carried the same ambiance, nature and greenery. She saw the loop the loop in the distance.
But light caught her eye as the sun gleamed off towering glass skyscrapers that reached toward the sky, their surfaces reflecting greenery and clouds alike. One building in particular drew her attention. A massive glass structure rising above the others, elegant and unmistakable.
And near the top she saw… Two tails. Curled together. A logo she knew by heart. Amy gasped.
“No way…”

She fumbled with her communicator watch, the screen flickering weakly as she activated it. Cracks spidered across the display, and the signal indicator blinked uselessly—but the logo on its casing was still there.
The same two tails.
“Tails,” she whispered, a shaky laugh escaping her. “You sly fox…” Her heart lifted just a little. If that building belonged to him, if he existed here at all, then maybe she wasn’t as alone as she thought.
With renewed determination, Amy set off toward the tower, weaving through the crowd. The city felt alive, warm, familiar in a way she couldn’t explain. People smiled at her as she passed. Someone waved. It wasn’t what she was used to, but she loved it.

As she reached the building, she stopped. The entrance was enormous with glass doors sliding open automatically as she approached. Inside, the space was bright and open, filled with soft light and quiet hums of advanced machinery. Screens floated behind the front desk, data scrolling faster than she could read.
And sitting there, typing rapidly at a sleek console…
Amy’s heart stopped.

A rabbit. Cream-colored fur with gingerbread highlights. Long ears. Gentle posture. She looked about Amy’s age. 19? Maybe? With kind eyes focused intently on her work. Taller than the Cream she knew. More mature. But unmistakable.
Amy swallowed hard as she stepped closer to the desk, her voice barely above a whisper. “…Cream?”. The rabbit’s head snapped up. Her eyes widened in shock, pupils shrinking as if she’d seen a ghost. “Oh my sweet Gaia…” she breathed.

Amy tilted her head in confusion. “Uh—Cream? Are you oka—” She didn’t get to finish. The chair screeched back as Cream launched herself over the counter, sprinting across the lobby. Tears spilled freely down her cheeks as she closed the distance in seconds.
“M-mm-miss AMY!” She crashed into Amy, arms wrapping around her in a fierce, desperate hug. Cream sobbed openly, face buried in Amy’s shoulder, clutching her like she might disappear if she let go. Amy stiffened in surprise. Then slowly, carefully, she returned the embrace. It was still Cream.
“There, there…” she murmured, still trying to process what was happening. Her chest tightened painfully. “Cream… hey… it’s okay…”. Cream shook her head, crying harder. “You—you’re really here… I can’t believe it… I thought—”
Amy closed her eyes, holding her as the weight of the moment settled in. What is going on? she wondered.

Somewhere across time and space, Sonic ran faster than he ever had before. Refusing to accept a future where his Amy Rose was lost forever.
