Work Text:
Elle despised her from the second they met, everything Beatrix Kiddo stood was felt wrong. Without conjuring up any real evidence, she almost quits the group, watching as Kiddo sought out their leader, pining over Bill like he had a leash around her neck and a bone in his mouth, always wagging his tongue around like a dog when Kiddo came.
She’s following the same path Driver had — playing the role of lovesick school girl quite well, even better than Elle had, causing her to role her eye in their direction as they flirted, drunken whispers of coming over after they had finished.
She needed to get Bill back. Elle couldn’t stand hearing the two of them laugh together anymore.
She needed to kill Beatrix, soon.
Elle began fantasizing about it at night, closing her eyes at night and instead of praying, she plotted, a simple plan coming up.
The first night, she scribbled something in her notebook furiously, notions that made no sense, discontent and discarded in a rage of fury. As the world waged against her, she cooked up a plan, her tense jaw eventually wound into a tight smile as she sat outside, admiring the sunset as she smoked a cigarette, certain it work.
By the following morning, Beatrix wouldn’t have the quiet time like this. She wouldn’t have a future. Elle laughed to herself as she hid the sword, waiting for the perfect moment.
It doesn’t come for a while, Elle’s self-righteous, certain she’ll attack when she least expected it. Something always came in the way, Kiddo looking at her with so much curiosity that it almost burned.
Elle scoffed, shrugging it off, telling her to stop looking at her in such a manner in the same slow pull of threatening to take one of her eyes. Kiddo cocked her head at that, mumbling under her breath about how they’d be equal if that happened. Driver, of course, hadn’t thought of that.
When their first introduced, Beatrix was still new in the force; she could barely hold her blade the right way, and there was no way in hell she’d be able to kill someone.
Out of the kindness of her heart, Elle sought her out and asked if she wanted some lessons. Not thinking much of it, Beatrix obliged. It was the first step, something that would go down in history.
“So,” Beatrix’s arms are at ease, a nice breeze picking up in the background as Elle smoked. “How long have you been doing this?”
“A while.” Kiddo responded, blunt and also short and sweet, not revealing much about herself.
Elle hated that, she added that to the long lists of things she hated about Beatrix Kiddo, the twinkle in her eye as she spoke was at the top of her list.
Beatrix started it, leaning into Driver as they trained together, shoulders brushing against each others, three weeks in, Kiddo pulled herself together, gripping Elle by her collar, instead of a knife at her neck, it was her lips, gentle and sharp, pecking her partner as her eyes widened comically, taken by surprise.
Elle’s quiet after Beatrix pulls away, it doesn’t stop her. Instead of saying anything, she pulled her back in for another kiss, longer that time, swollen with ecstasy as her heart rate increased.
“Jesus.” Driver said, hearing Kiddo’s sweet laugh in the background, raising a brow like a knife, “You kiss Bill like that?”
Of course it had come down to that, everything was about Bill. Kiddo couldn’t help but wonder how much money he was paying Driver. “Of course not.” Beatrix said, pledging eyes on Elle. “Just you, Elle.”
The use of her first name lights a fire in her belly. All bets are off.
“You know how long I’ve been wanting to do that, Kiddo?” Elle asked. Lips puckering for another kiss. Beatrix looked up, wondering if she meant it like a question.
Fearlessly, she answered. “Not as long as I have.”
Elle laughed, leaning into her body as Beatrix dropped the knife. Maybe she couldn’t do it.
“Just put it down, Kiddo,” Elle begged. Beatrix usually liked that.
This time, it felt forced. Something in her head stopped. Maybe Elle didn’t want her. Perhaps she just wanted to live. Hell, maybe she’d even come back to haunt her – again. But even that twisted mantra made Beatrix’s tongue drool, destined to win. “We can split the money. Take Bill down together.”
“I don’t want Bill,” Beatrix said. A lie. Something neither of them believed. Elle raised a brow, still bent over with fear. Beatrix hadn’t let out; the blade was still snug against her throat.
“Of course you do.”
“No.”
“Even I want Bill,” Elle admitted. “He came to my house after… We planned this, Beatrix. Every detail about your death was calculated.”
“Stop it,” Beatrix demanded, leaning closer as a tear strummed down her cheek. “You don’t want him.”
“Who else would I want? And don’t say Bud. We both know the sex is terrible.”
Awkwardly, Beatrix stared at the floor, aware of the shaggy carpet underneath the balls of her feet alongside all the dirt. “I wouldn’t know.”
Elle raised a brow. A bit shocked, “Seriously?”
“Seriously.”
Elle laughed, leaning into Beatrix as the knife slipped from Kiddo’s hard impact. She cradled Elle’s face, her thumb gently tracing the dried blood along a gash she had caused, clamping her lips together as she sighed — a sudden weight on her shoulders as Elle stumbled, lucky to have shoes on her feet as she walked over shards of a broken beer bottle.
“God,” Her girlfriend scoffed, looking around at the mess Bud had left, leaning down to pick the pieces up, a way to warn Beatrix not to step there.“When was the last time he cleaned?”
Beatrix had wondered the same thing, moving her head along the same paths Elle had, stuck together in unholy matrimony – something she could only dream about, a possessed fantasy Bill had. “Must have been decades.” Beatrix guessed.
“Years,” Elle agreed.
“You sure you want this?”
“Sweetheart,” Driver dropped her weapon, arms up in surrender as Kiddo did the same, left hand itching across her cheek, dirt stuck to her lips, “All I want is you.”
Kiddo laughed, eyes rolling as she puckered her lips together, gently kissing Elle on the cheek, looking her in the eye as they shared a smile, whispering, “Me too.”
Bill comes and go, surprised when he spots the girls in the trailer, not fighting like they had anticipated, but cradled in each other’s embrace, drinking beer as the snake rattled towards their fearless leader, money on the floor, just happy to have each other.
