Wish You Weren't Spider-Man

Summary:

It's an upsetting feeling, like you've been abandoned, when your best friend of many years isn't spending time with you. In turn, wishing they weren't the Spider-Man who saves the world and does good... is that really the right feeling? But, he's back now - who knows for how long - so you need to get to the bottom of this. And quickly. Air out any grievances, get things sorted. Who knows? Maybe saying all this will get you more than you bargained for.

Work Text:

"Question," You began, quietly, trying to ignore the heavy rain on your face. It was a spur of the moment meeting with him, since who knows when you'll see him again, but you needed to get what you needed to say across sooner, rather than later.

"Yeah?" Hobie replied, looking at you, now. The rain clearly bothering him, too, but he didn't say anything. It was chilly, but nothing that bothered either of you.

"Do you," You began, but paused, swallowing, "Does it make me a bad person to wish... you weren't Spider-Man?"

You fell silent, not wanting to meet Hobie's gaze. It was awkward airing your grievances, especially about something that does so much good for the, well, this world. It's not, however, without reason. You've barely seen or talked to Hobie for months now, him bouncing between different universes, apparently at least, means he is not here often, and you miss him. Your best friend of almost 15 years, and it feels like you've been forgotten.

"Why's that, then?" He asked slowly, cautiously.

It was silent, again, save for the heavy rain on the metal of the emergency stairwell. You'd both become accustom to hanging out here, just outside your window. Not anymore, however.

"Dunno, it's just..." You sigh, defeated, plunging your head into your hands. He flinches to comfort you, but holds back.

"Just...?"

"Feels like I've lost you, y'know? We barely hangout 'n' you're always on about this multi-universe stuff and I dunno if any of it's real or you're just pulling my leg," Your voice quivers, but you sit up, still not looking at him, "Feels like I lost my best mate. And I dunno why, either."

It was quiet now. The rain wasn't audible now, the nerves had blocked everything but him out. And you both sat there, and kept sitting there, for a while. Both of you were drenched, and you're definitely going to get sick, but it didn't matter. Not right now. What mattered is getting this cleared up.

"Look," Hobie finally says, "I promise all the Multi-Verse malarkey I've been prattling on about is true, yeah? I can't exactly do much to prove it you, 'cause of some tory keeping close tabs on it all, but I'm sorry I haven't been seeing you. To be honest, I don't got nothing that will weasel my way outta it, but I'm sorry, I've some new blokes to look out for but I can't forget my OG."

Finally, you look up at him, and he's already looking at you with a soft smile on his face, and finally, you smile back.

"You've really gotta make it up to me mate, y'hear?" You chuckle, scooting closer to him.

"Yeah. Yeah, I do, don't I? Got something in mind you wanna do first? Bloke's not going to want me round at the mo', so we got time." He rests his hand on your shoulder before shaking it gently, smiling widely.

"Course, but, uh, can I, uhm, get somethin' off my chest?" You bore into his eyes, stumbling over your words.

"You tryna tell me you got blitzed without me, yeah?" He chuckled, letting you go.

"I mean, course, mate, gone for so long wouldn't be surprised if the queen's kicked it," You both laugh at that, "Nah, uhm, just wanted to see if you got the hots for anyone in that multi-universe bollocks you're rapping about?"

"Tsk, no, brev, bare innit? Not a bloke there I like, at least."

You cock an eyebrow at that, wondering what he means by 'at least', and he quickly kicks himself for saying it.

"So there is someone, yeah?"

"'Low it, 'low it!" He asks desperately, looking away.

"I'm gassed now, yeah, whose it, then? What they like? They leng?"

He sighs and looks down, letting his head swing slightly.

"Bare leng, brev." He says under his breath, trying to hide a blush creeping up his wet face.

"Nah, nah, c'mon, fam, sock it to me!" You pry desperately, shaking his shoulders.

He's quiet for a moment, being shook by you, before quickly shoving you back and slamming his lips into yours, your piercings clashing as the kiss is rough, but full of pent up love, which you return ten fold, clasping your hands round his face and kissing deeper.

After a moment, you both part, panting and boring into each others eyes, before he smirks - blushing, of course - and begins to speak.

"Leng ting, for sure."
