Work Text:
Dark clouds had been pulled over the previously clear blue sky like curtains and it was already starting to drip down.
The party had found its place under the glass ceiling of the greenhouse, watching over the ruined decorations, hanging down in sad smiles, similar to your own.
Cabernet reached up towards it, wiping the corner of it, as if that might get rid of it.
"How annoying.", she stated, her eyes on the rain as her fingers tapped on her cane.
"Seems as if this party fell into the water.", someone behind you joked, just loud enough for you to hear them.
Cabernet gave a polite smile, giving everyone the permission to laugh and they ate it up, just not you of course, preferring to hide your face instead, she looked at you, before leaning her head to the side, only a bit, just so she could talk to you with no one noticing. "Are you alright, dear?"
"I wanna go home.", you confess. "My feet hurt from the heels, the dress is itchy, I'm wet, everything is loud and I can't stand all of this fake laughter anymore."
She sighed "I'm not in the mood for anymore of this either.", she breathed a kiss onto your temple, before turning to the party. "My Wife and I shall take our leave now, she isn't feeling well.", she said while pronouncing that usual drag in her voice with some extra favor.
Understanding coos came from around you.
"But Miss Cabernet, you might get wet."
She chuckled, holding her big sleeve over your head, she was wearing something else than usual. "Oh, I can live with that."
They continued with their admiration. "Miss Cabernet is amazing" "So noble" and what not, all the boot licking… it made you grab your head, usually it wasn't this bad, your headaches, you mean, not the bootlicking.
"Sorry.", you said while entering the car behind her, just a bit later. Your driver had come quickly, heeding her call.
"For what?", she smiled. "You gave us a great excuse to leave, I'd have to thank you.", she pulled you closer by the waist and put you on her lap to kiss your cheek. "So thank you, beautiful."
You hummed, leaning back while wringing out your wet dress, over the whole drive she'd hear you complain with a pout on your lips, already working on getting your delectable smile back.
Returning to Cabernets home was like a breath of fresh air and the moment you stepped into the grand entrance, you knew that you were save and already had to wipe a few stray tears away, just now getting aware of the exhaustion which had settled over your bones.
This week seemed to have taken much more of your energy than anticipated.
"Oh what's that now?" Cabernet approached you after finishing a talk with her butler, hearing your soft sobs. She palmed your face, wiping your tears away with her thumbs. "Crying because of a wet dress? That's an easy fix, sweetie."
"It's not only that."
"What else is there."
You look up at her, a little clueless on how to express it, then you start crying again.
She hummed, putting her hand against her head with a smile. "I had a bath prepared for us.", she explained as your sobs evened out.
"You did?"
"With pleasure.", she bopped your nose gently, before putting her hand onto the small of your back and leading you through endless corridors before finally getting to her room where you undressed, though it felt moreover like a dream than anything else… and yet you were not tired, though the warm water where you slowly started slipping into would beg to differ.
"Are you falling asleep?" Cabernet grinned as she watched you doze off here and there, while holding her elegant wine glass.
You shrugged. "The water is nice and warm.", you blinked slow, like a cat. "Is all."
Her grin furthered as she took a sip. "But I'm wondering… did it have to do with any of the other events we attended, this week?", she asked, putting the glass to the side, her full attention on you.
"I think… its that we, or you, always gather a lot of attention." you watched your intertwined legs under the water. "And, you know, putting effort into looks and the Make up, the dresses, the pick up…" You then shock up, putting your hand on her knee. "But it's not that I don't like it, I do but… those were more events than usual."
She was still watching you, still smiling. "Come here.", she reached her hand out towards you while adjusting her legs, you took it, thinking nothing of it, only for her to pull you quickly into her lap. "You are cute.", she placed her lips on your cheek and you only saw red for moment. The red of her hair that is. "I could just eat you up.", and then she actually bit your cheek a little.
"Cabby-!", you squeaked, feeling the water slosh around you. "The water-"
She giggled, letting your cheek go, watching you fumble as you regained your composure and adjusted your position. "You're impossible…"
She stuck her toung out at you.
"Ugh…", you put your head above her chest, feeling the water tickle your chin. It was silent for a while and when you closed your eyes, you were able to smell the subtle Lavender which the candles emitted. Your Girlfriend wasn't one for the kind, she preferred the white clean sticks, maybe the red ones, but when she learned about how much they'd calm you down, she had some of the highest quality bought and put at least one in every room.
"You wouldn't have a lot of these issues if you just moved in."
That made you open your eyes again. "Cabby… we've been together for like six months-"
"Actually ; it's been nine months, three weeks and two days, and counting. But do go on."
You squinted your eyes at her. "Well… doesn't change that it's way too early! We- we don't know that much about each other yet-"
She had her fingers dance over your arm. "When was the last time you went home?"
You actually had to scratch your head at that. "Like... last weekend, but-"
"And where are half your clothes?"
"In your closet, but only because you bought them!"
She crocked her head at you in innocence. "Darling, you're already living with me~ moving in would just make it official~"
You sucked a breath in. "I also just need my own space from time to time…"
"We've enough rooms that aren't in use."
Out of protests, you stay silent.
"Is that a yes?", she asks.
"It's an 'I think about it'.", you correct, trailing her collarbone as she started to grin smugly.
"That's good enough for me."
