Work Text:
Bruce’s face hurts from smiling so much. He’s running off of three hours of sleep and a bite of plain toast, and all he wants is to go home. His absence would be noted, of course, so he currently has no choice but to stay. He meanders through the crowd, trying to look like he’s a perfectly occupied person and therefore avoid having to entertain any of the vapid guests. Then, he sees his favourite reporter by the door.
Clark has just finished getting some quotes. He blows out a breath. It’s probably going to be enough to placate his boss.
Bruce walks over to him, superficially perfect, but clearly exhausted if one takes too long a look at him.
“Clark. Hey.”.
Clark is chuffed to see him and discretely squeezes his hand.
“Is it okay if I hang out near you and pretend you're interviewing me? I can't bear anymore strangers trying to kiss up to me.”.
“Sure. I'm basically done for the day.” He smiles at his partner.
Bruce finally allows his face to adopt a more comfortable position, smiling mildly back at Clark.
“I'm still stuck at this hedon's party.” Bruce says, eyeing the guests that are sneaking glances of him. He releases Clark's hand. “But at least I won't have to socialize anymore.”.
“We could always-”
!SMASH!
Both turn to the source of the sound, which was the champagne tower collapsing because of someone falling on it drunkenly. Everyone's in either a panic or laughing themselves silly over the commotion. Bruce and Clark lock eyes, and immediately run out the door. They don't stop until they're halfway down the truly magnificent driveway.
“Thank God for that idiot.” Bruce laughs. “Come on.” He motions for Clark to follow him. They walk almost the entire way to Bruce's car, until Bruce stops. Clark looks over at what he's seeing and notices the poorly disguised paparazzi man in the bushes.
“Well, are you willing to fly us to my house?” Bruce snarks only half negatively.
Clark once again grabs his hand. “It's such a nice day, some fresh air will do you good anyway. Let's walk around and wait for him to leave.”.
Bruce starts off walking, Clark in tow, before setting off at a sprint into the woods by the house. Clark is pleasantly surprised by the burst of whimsy and runs along with his partner. They dash haphazardly, Bruce leading the way, until they reach a big fallen tree. Bruce sits down on it, and pats the spot next to it to invite Clark to sit too.
The moonlight is streaming down through the trees beautifully, casting shadows on both of their faces. Clark leans in and presses a kiss to Bruce’s lips. Bruce kisses back, forehead tipped against Clark’s.
“Now I feel like a teenager.” Clark giggles.
“It’s nice, isn’t it?” Bruce says, kissing his cheeks delicately.
They press their faces together, holding hands too. Bruce nuzzles Clark like a cat, sighing contentedly.
Clark stands up, taking hold of both Bruce’s hands.
“Walking around in a moonlit forest is too romantic to pass up, wouldn’t you agree?” Clark asks.
Bruce nods in agreement.
“I do.”.
They slowly pace around the woods, Bruce expertly stepping through the foliage like a deer and Clark avoiding hazards with experience.
“I love you a lot.” Clark says, leaning his head on Bruce’s shoulder.
Bruce kisses his hair.
“Me too.”.
Clark smiles dorkily at such an action from Bruce.
“I have never understood why people think you’re mean to be honest. You can be rude and a little insensitive, but you’re just so kind really.”.
Bruce flushes.
“I think you love me a little too much.”.
“There’s no such thing as too much love. Maybe you need to apply some to yourself.”.
The tightening of muscle indicates to Clark that he’s accidentally made his partner uncomfortable. He hugs Bruce from the side.
“I’m sorry-”
“It’s fine.” Bruce mutters. He presses himself closer to Clark, wrapping his arms around him and squeezing. Clark hugs him back, face buried in his hair. They continue on walking after pulling away, Bruce bumping their shoulders together as a further show of forgiveness.
They start going steadily uphill, and the trees start to thin a little. Bruce absentmindedly brushes some leaves out of Clark’s hair, raking his fingers through his hair once more than strictly necessary.
Once they reach the top, Clark pulls Bruce down onto the grass and moss. He lays down, arms folded underneath his head. Bruce has his arms tucked to his torso. Clark looks over at him, smiling peacefully. Bruce scoots close to him and interlocks their fingers. He appreciates the steady pulse felt through Clark’s veins, and he can now understand why his partner is so enamored with listening to his heart. Bruce’s heartbeat is nowhere near as neat as Clark’s, stuttering and quickening just from his presence. He carefully removes Clark’s glasses, folding them neatly on the ground beside them. Clark kisses him, hands cupping Bruce's face like Bruce is precious porcelain. Bruce closes his eyes and gives Clark’s bottom lip a small lick. Clark gets the message and slips his tongue into Bruce’s mouth, satisfied immensely by the small groan Bruce releases.
Their kiss is leaving him lightheaded, which he is perfectly willing to deal with if it means more of Clark. But eventually, Clark pulls away for Bruce’s safety, although pull away is a strong word considering their faces are still only a centimeter apart at most.
“You didn’t have to stop.” Bruce pretend-pouts.
“No, I’d get less kisses out of you in the long run if you died of hypoxia.” Clark challenges.
“That would never happen.”.
“Why?”.
“Because I’m Batman.”.
Clark laughs, and Bruce eventually ends up joining.
He playfully straddles Clark, peppering his face with kisses. Clark puts an arm around Bruce’s shoulders, gently sort of petting his back. Bruce presses their cheeks together.
“This is nice.” Clark murmurs.
“Shut up.” Bruce interjects. He once again starts kissing Clark, and he can tell he’s getting somewhat flustered. It’s adorable, making him all nervous and needy like that.
“Bruce, do you wanna..?” Clark trails off, the dangling end automatically tied off by Bruce’s mind.
“We are not having sex on a hill. I think we’ve been a little too teenager-like for the evening.” He leans in. “Later is possible though.”.
Bruce snuggles up against Clark, tucking his nose into the crook of his neck. Clark stares up at the moon, tightly holding onto his partner. He relaxes into him, kissing the top of his head.
