The coffee angel

Summary:

It had been a bad morning. First, Crowley overslept and had to call his boss that he’d be late for a meeting. Second, he had forgotten to buy more coffee, so he hadn’t fully woken up by the time he stepped out of his front door. Third, it was too dark outside for this time of day. Crowley glanced up and saw a dark-grey storm cloud threatening to pour bucketfuls of water on him any minute now. If he had woken up in time, he could be nice and dry in his office by now, through his window watching at the poor buggers trying to get in from the rain. Shit.

Work Text:

It had been a bad morning. First, Crowley overslept and had to call his boss that he’d be late for a meeting. Second, he had forgotten to buy more coffee, so he hadn’t fully woken up by the time he stepped out of his front door. Third, it was too dark outside for this time of day. Crowley glanced up and saw a dark-grey storm cloud threatening to pour bucketfuls of water on him any minute now. If he had woken up in time, he could be nice and dry in his office by now, watching through his window at the poor buggers trying to get in from the rain. Shit.

Be that as it may, he desperately needed coffee. There was a new coffee shop only a few streets away that Crowley hadn’t been to yet. No time like today, especially when he desperately needed some coffee. As dark as he could get it.

Crowley knew that he was giving off annoyed alpha vibes and smells around him. He didn’t much care about whether he was freaking out his neighbours, especially if it helped them keep away from his path. Checking the time, he got into the Bentley and headed to the coffee shop. His boss was willing to give him some slack because he was one of the best engineers in the company, but there was no reason to stretch that goodwill too tight. Just get the coffee and get out, and he could be at work in twenty minutes at a reasonable driving speed. In twelve at his normal speed.

The first drops of rain hit his windshield as he parked the car close to the coffee shop. By the time he got into the shop, he was wet down to his underwear and not in the good way either. He stepped inside and drew a deep breath of relief.

His nose was filled with the most wonderful scent which made Crowley stop on his tracks.

“Good morning,” a voice greeted him from behind the counter. “Oh dear. It’s pouring down out there, isn’t it?”

“Morning. Yeah,” Crowley muttered. Behind the counter stood the most stunning man he had seen in his life, and now Crowley knew what the source of that intoxicating scent had been. Omega if he wasn’t much mistaken. “Could I have a coffee? The darkest and largest you can get me.”

The coffee shop angel blinked.

“Of course,” he said. “Anything else?”

“I could also take a large latte to take to my boss as an apology for being late,” Crowley grinned.

The angel laughed and nodded. He wore a name tag reading Aziraphale. He was like a ray of sunlight had turned into human form. The guy behind Aziraphale began to prepare the orders which gave Crowley a moment to chat with the angel. He saw Aziraphale’s nostrils flare like he was taking in a deep whiff of Crowley’s scent. It was a promising sign.

“Do you sell ground coffee too? I ran out this morning which is what brought me here for my coffee fix,” Crowley asked.

“We do!” Aziraphale said. “I assume you want the dark roast?”

“You already know me so well,” Crowley said. Their eyes met for a second and Crowley felt a thrill of something run through him. Not just lust but something deeper. Like a flash of light exposing all his deepest longings, even those he hadn’t been aware of before today.

“Here you go,” Aziraphale said and placed two options on the counter, starting to explain their differences. Crowley was too distracted to make an informed decision, so he took both. “And here are your coffees.”

Crowley paid for his purchases, took the bag where Aziraphale had packed them, and began to leave. He looked through the windows into the rainstorm, ran the previous conversation through his mind again, and turned back.

“Sorry if I’m crossing any boundaries or assuming too much, but…”

“Here’s my phone number,” Aziraphale said, twisting a piece of paper in his fingers. “If you’d… If you’re interested.”

Crowley took the paper and saved the number on his phone. It was a very good morning after all.

“Good morning,” Crowley said to his coworkers and handed his boss the apology coffee. “Isn’t it a nice day?”

Everyone stared at Crowley in his drenched shirt and hair dripping rainwater everywhere. His boss raised an eyebrow.

“What’s got into you today?”

“Nothing at all. Now, what did I miss from the morning meeting?”
