Work Text:
It was supposed to be just another call, they were supposed to go right back to the station afterward and eat dinner.
But Buck's bad luck was in full swing that day and it scored yet again.
An office building caught on fire and there were still workers inside, so obviously BuckandEddie were sent inside for a search and rescue.
Eddie had gotten out with the last victim tossed over his shoulder, unconscious from smoke inhalation. Buck was still inside when the building collapsed.
Luckily, when Eddie rushed inside he found his boyfriend to still be conscious and not in critical condition.
Buck rode with Hen and Chim in the ambulance to the hospital, while Eddie stayed with Ravi and Bobby on the scene to check up on all of the victims.
After shift, Eddie stopped by the hospital on his way home.
Even if it was technically out of his way.

"Eddie!" Buck cooed, sitting up in his hospital bed as Eddie closed the door behind him.
For all the time Buck spends in the hospital, he should have his own room by now.
"I, uh, I just wanted to..." Eddie cleared his throat, trying not to let his nerves get the better of him. "Are you okay?" He asked, finally.
"Concussion and a fractured collarbone, spending the night in the hospital definitely wasn't what I wanted, but could've been worse."
"Could've been worse." Eddie echoed, wiping the nervous sweat off from his hands against his jeans. "I- I'm sorry, I should've warned you sooner-"
"No, no, part of the job. You did everything you could." Buck looked up at him, grinning dopily. "We all get our bell ring eventually, right?"
"Right."
Eddie must've been frowning because, Buck spoke up again. This time changing the subject.
"Hey, heyy." The blonde called, holding out his hand toward Eddie.
His smile lopsided from the painkillers widened as Eddie moved closer.
"Yes." He whispered, triumphantly as his boyfriend's fingers intertwined with his. "Better."
"You scared me."
"I'm sorry I didn't text you after they finished diagnosing me."
"No. It's okay."
"I was excited for tonight." Buck mumbled. "Mostly mad I fucked that up." He looked off to the side, then back at Eddie when he suddenly remembered something. "I had a whole plan to ask you something."
Eddie shook his head, "Maybe it's better if you just rest now."
"I was gonna ask you-"
"Buck."
"Will you... marry me? I was gonna ask you. At my loft." Buck explained, closing his eyes and turning his head away. "I had it all planned out. It was gonna be so romantic. No I ruined it!"
Eddie smiled, tracing his thumb over the knuckles on Buck's calloused hand. "Ask me when you aren't high on pain meds, Buckley."
"Is that a yes?" He asked, pouting as he looked up at Eddie again. Puppy dog eyes in full effect.
"Maybe, maybe."

"No extensive work, Doctor's orders!"
"Okay, but this is ridiculous, Eddie." Buck said, tilting his head to the side to look up at his boyfriend.
Eddie shifted Buck's weight in his arms, pressing a kiss to the taller man's cheek. "You love it."
"I do." The blonde admitted. "But it's still ridiculous."
"Ew, you guys are gross!" Christopher shouted, rolling his eyes at his dad and Buck as they entered the house.
"So you hate your father!" Eddie replied, scoffing dramatically.
"No, I just think it's gross that you kiss. In front of me." The teen answered, rolling his eyes again.
"Do you hear that, Buck? My own child hates me!" Eddie continued, pouting and burying his head into Buck's shoulder.
"I still love you." He soothed, combing his fingers through Eddie's hair.
"I'm going to my room!" Chris announced, trudging off and shutting the door loudly behind him.
Eddie dropped Buck onto the couch, laying down on top of him as he got comfortable. Leaning against the arm of the couch and stretched out over the cushions.
"Do you remember what I said back there?" Buck asked, petting Eddie's cheek with the back of his fingers. "In the hospital?"
"What? That you planned to marry me?" Eddie answered, nuzzling his head comfortably against Buck's abs.
"Yeah."
A silence stretched between them, blanketing their words as they continued to lay basking in the comfort of their home.
"Will you marry me?" Buck asked, softly. Hesitantly.
Eddie's eyes snapped open, darting up to meet Buck's as he abruptly sat up.
"You don't have to, I was just wondering." Buck muttered, looking down at his lap.
Eddie cupped Buck's face in his hand, cradling the blonde's fragile expression as he forced him to meet his own gaze. "Yes, of course. I'd marry you a hundred times over." He punctuated each statement with a kiss to Buck's lips. "Don't you ever think that I wouldn't."
"I would too." Buck whispered, resting his forehead against the brunette's. "Marry you."
"I know."
Buck scoffed, a smile making its way onto his face. "This wasn't at all how I planned to ask you."
"It's okay." Eddie cooed, nuzzling back into Buck's abs. "I think it's perfect."
"No, it's not, Eddie!" He cried out, covering his face in embarrassment. "I had a whole speech! A whole night planned!"
"We could still recreate it..." The shorter man suggested, gazing lovingly at his fiance.
Buck lit up. "We could? Tonight?"
"Yes, tonight. When else?"
"I don't know... Some other night. When we're... alone."
Eddie rolled his eyes. "You horndog."
"Hey!"
"I love you." Eddie said, pressing a firm kiss to Buck's lips.
"I love you too. Forever."
☼
Eddie didn't think it was possible, but his grin grew three times as Buck kneeled down in front of him. Shakily the blonde pulled out a small, black box and opened it.
"Eddie Diaz, I originally planned this to happen differently, but now that I'm here, I wouldn't have it any other way. You make me so, so happy, so will you officially make me the happiest man in the world tonight and... Will you marry me?"
"Yes, yes!" Eddie nodded, tears filling his eyes as Buck fitted a simple metal band onto his finger. "A hundred times yes." He added, meeting Buck in the kneeling position to pull his now official fiance into a kiss. "Dios, I love you. I love you so much, mi amor. I can't wait to marry you."
"I can't either-"
"You're getting married?!" A surprised voice shouted, causing both men to look up in shock.
Christopher was standing wide-eyed in the doorway, his schoolbag laid forgotten on the floor as he stared, gaping at the two men on the floor.
"Does this mean Buck is my dad now too?"
"Hey, bud..." Buck was the first to speak up, slow.
"We were going to tell you, but it's still kind of new." Eddie replied, answering Chris' internal shock. "And he can be, your dad, if you want."
"I wouldn't want to overstep anything." The blonde cut in.
"This is awesome!" Chris cheered. "I'm gonna tell all my friends."
"We're glad you think so, Superman."
"We think so too." Eddie mumbled, kissing Buck's forehead.
"Let's get off the floor, my knee-" Buck whined, prompting Eddie to bolt up.
"Of course, yeah, c'mon." He said, grabbing Buck by the hands to help pull him up.
"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
"Me neither."
