Buck: Okay, here is a very long text with good punctuation (mostly). Okay, so first of all, I’m sorry for going no contact for no reason so suddenly. You didn’t deserve that, and I feel horrible. I wasn’t in the best headspace, and I should’ve called my therapist. I’m better now, but at the time I thought that it was in everyone’s best interest if I just…drifted away, but I thought it would be especially beneficial to you. I didn’t want you to feel like you had a weight weighing you down (aka me). I didn’t want you to feel stuck. I know, logically, you wouldn’t feel like that, but that was when I was really low, not my lowest but still really low. I think I was also blaming myself for you leaving, and yes, I know it’s not my fault, you went for Chris, but I couldn’t help but feel responsible. I felt like I should’ve done more, so he didn’t leave in the first place, but I know I can’t change anything, and that hurts. I’m so sorry about everything that’s happened Eddie, and if you don’t want to talk anymore after all of this, then that’s completely understandable. Just, please, let Christopher know how much I love him. Oh, and almost all the texts I sent were song lyrics, there were like two that weren’t. I thought it sorta fit.

Eddie: Buck, listen. You are my best friend, you can talk to me, you can confide in me, and you can be vulnerable with me. I want you to know that you can trust me, which I thought was clear, but it’s okay, sometimes you need a little reminder, I get it. I’m sorry that you felt like you couldn’t talk to me about what was going on, and I hope you know that I will be insufferable about making you talk to me for the next few months, but that’s besides the point. I want you to know that you’re not a burden, not a weight stopping me from doing anything, and it’s DEFINITELY NOT your fault that Chris went to Texas. I’m only beginning to accept that it wasn’t totally my fault myself. I hope that you know that if you EVER try to drift away again when I’m so much as a city away, I will drive all the way back to LA just to tell you off, it doesn’t matter if I’m in another country, you will not catch me letting you go no contact again. Losing you would destroy me, it would do nothing to benefit me. Even if it meant I wouldn’t have to worry about you dying, I’d hate that I wouldn’t be able to be there for you at all, and that would be worse. I would never leave you Buck, never permanently. Sure, I’m gone right now, but I am coming back, and I’m so sorry that I didn’t think about how you’d take this. I should’ve known with how you were acting before I left. I think subconsciously I knew what was going on, but I didn’t want to accept it so I ignored it. I’m sorry I did that. You didn’t deserve that. You should be able to express your emotions in a healthy way and I stopped you from doing that because I was so stressed out and shit, but that’s no excuse. I shouldn’t have said that to those people when I was showing the house either. “Everything that matters is in Texas.” That’s not true. Everything that matters to me, everything I’ve built, isn’t in Texas anymore, it used to be, but now, it’s in LA. Even my sisters are moving to LA soon for their Masters. That statement will never be true, okay? Only if you and Chris are in Texas at the same time, okay? Blaze and how you kept sabotaging the showings should have been my clue. And I never should’ve been mad at you for ‘outing’ me to Cap and the others. You were mad, rightfully so, but I didn’t think about the other emotions you were feeling. I should’ve realized that you were sad, that you didn’t really want me to leave because then it’d feel like I was leaving for good. Buck, I never want to be ‘just another person who left me’ to you. I want to be the person you can count on, the person who always has and always will be by your side. I’m so sorry I made you feel any different.

Buck walked in through the front door, which was unable to be seen from the living room. He quietly let the door close and lock behind him as he made his way to the living room.
The only reason he knew his way around the house was because Eddie had described his house to Buck, which had interested the man enough to look it up on homes.com.
Buck let his feet quietly pad against the wood floor as he made it to the corner just before the living room. He took a deep breath before stepping into the room where Eddie’s parents were talking to his Diaz boys.
“Honey, I’m home,” Buck said, cutting off Ramon as he walked to the couch.
Chris reacted first, pushing himself up and off of the couch before running to Buck as fast as he could–because like Eddie said all those years ago, he’s not very fast.
Buck engulfed Christopher in a bone-crushing embrace while Eddie stared at him dumbstruck. His mouth was hanging open as he continuously opened and closed it. His eyes kept darting from Buck and Chris to his phone and back again.
Buck smirked. “Hi, Eddie,” he said softly as he let go of Chris and made his way to the couch.
“I–you–how did you–when–what the fuck?” Eddie stuttered before finally forming a complete sentence.
“I missed you,” Buck said sadly before holding his arms out for a hug. “And I needed a hug from you.”
Eddie stood quickly before pulling Buck into a tight embrace, unwilling to let go. Buck buried his head in the crook of Eddie’s neck, breathing in his scent while Eddie wrapped an arm around Buck’s waist while the other moved to hold Buck’s head, fingers threading through Buck’s hair.
“I missed you so fucking much. I was going fucking insane,” Eddie said, burying his head in Buck’s hair. “God, I’m so glad you’re here.”
“Eddie,” Helena, Eddie’s mom, said, voice stern, causing Eddie to tense. Buck moved his hands up to Eddie’s shoulder and massaged the tension away. “What is going on?”
“Right,” Eddie said, straightening up before reluctantly pulling away from the hug. He rested his hand on Buck’s shoulder. “This is Buck, my best friend.”
“Ah, so you're the amazing cook Christopher keeps comparing Helena to,” Ramon said, earning him an elbow to the ribs from Helena.
“Why is he here?” Helena asked, glaring daggers at Buck and her son.
“Uh,” Eddie said, glancing at Buck because he had no idea the man was coming–Buck needs to stop saying weird things.
“I just came to see my favorite people again,” Buck said, a huge smile on his face. “It’s been almost a year since Eddie had to move here, so I thought I’d surprise him as well as help him pack up.”
“You’re going back to LA?” Helena asked her son, a look of…hope coloring her features, causing Buck to fill with fury.
“Yeah,” Buck interrupted before Eddie could say a thing, causing Helena to shift her gaze. “Eddie and Chris are coming home once Eddie puts his house on the market, and once Chris’s school transfers all his information.”
“But Chris wants to stay in Texas,” Helena argued, looking at Eddie with a manipulative look in her eyes. Buck wanted to punch her.
“Even if Chris wanted to stay,” Buck started, glaring at the woman in front of him. “Eddie’s his father. Chris may be a teenager, but he’s still a minor, and Eddie’s his legal guardian, not you.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Ramon asked, glaring at Buck.
“You two like to act like Christopher’s your youngest son, but he’s not. He’s your grandson, and you’re his grandparents. That’s all you are to him, that’s all the power you have,” Buck said, moving his arm to wrap around Eddie’s waist, pulling the man closer. “Thank you for taking care of him, but we’ve got it from here.”
“We?” Helena asked, standing so she could meet Buck’s eyes better. “You go on a rant about our place in Christopher’s life, and then you go and put yourself in a position that’s not yours? Ok, Mr. Hypocrite.”
“I have more of a role in his life than you do,” Buck snapped, grip on Eddie’s waist tightening.
“Buck,” Eddie tried weakly.
“Christopher is legally under the care and protection of me and Eddie,” Buck said, letting go of Eddie’s waist so he could take a few steps forward. “I am in Eddie’s will to take care of Christopher if anything happens to him. I have been by Eddie and Christopher’s side everyday for the last six years. Where were you when Eddie was a kid? Oh, right. Absent. But now that you’ve realized how badly you fucked up, you’re trying to get a do-over with Christopher, but you’re not going to get it. You fucked up, and that’s it. That’s where it ends. All you can do is apologize and hope for forgiveness, which you haven’t earned.”
Eddie took a hold of Buck’s wrist and gently pulled him towards him. “You’ve been holding that in for how long?” Eddie asked, stepping up to Buck’s side.
“Almost three years,” Buck said through clenched teeth.
“Right, right. Well, how about you take Chris to his room, and you two can start packing while I talk to my parents,” Eddie suggested, putting both hands on Buck’s shoulders and squeezing in a gesture that said ‘I’ve got this, don’t worry.’
“Ok,” Buck said, voice losing its earlier edge as he turned to Chris. “Come on, Bud. Show me your room.”
Christopher nodded before taking Buck’s hand and leading him to his room. As they left the room, they could hear Eddie start yelling at his parents, and they were both immensely proud of him for finally standing up to them.
