Work Text:
The sun was setting when Whi-Two and Lack-Two walked away from the graduation ceremony side by side.
"I don't remember your home being in the same direction as mine", the girl pondered, mainly to break the awkward silence.
His attention was mainly on the storefronts they were passing as if he was looking for something specific. Like a reason not to look at her, she thought. "I told you, I have a new mission", he ultimately disclosed.
"Oh", Whi-Two bit her tongue. "Sorry, I just didn't think it would start right... now."
Suddenly, she saw his face lighten up. "I couldn't think of a better time to start", he declared, and turned to enter an alleyway they were about to cross.
"Farewell then, Lack-Two", she hurried to say after him before she would fully lose his attention, maybe for the final time. Something she had wished for so desperately only weeks ago yet now felt so wrong.
To her suprise, he turned around once more to give her a weird smile. The reason it was weird was that she had seen him smile so often, and yet this looked different. Real. "I'll see you around." And with those words, he was gone.
Whi-Two took the final steps to her apartment alone, pondering about their future. Her mom was still at the celebration, talking to the teachers about who-knew-what, so she prepared for an evening alone in her thoughts, hoping at least Foongy would keep her company as she entered her home.
However, just as she had served dinner to her Pokemon, she was startled by the doorbell ringing. It reminded her ironically of how Lack-Two had always startled her when he had insisted on spending time with her after class.
Maybe for that reason she should not have been surprised when she found it was him on the other side of her door, yet she jumped at the sight once again.
Mainly, the sight of him with a bouquet of Gracidea flowers in his arms. "These were your favourite, if I remember correctly?", he asked courteously, as if he had ever misremembered something.
Whi-Two was just about ready to pass out when she accepted the flowers from him and saw the small card stuck between them saying 'You are my new mission'.
