Work Header

Blah blah blah (blah blah)

Summary:

Blinking less fiercely, he looked down to his gauntlets to locate the tracker he managed to pin on the perp, but- thats not a gauntlet. Instead of his green, nano tech infused gauntlets, Tim is met with a slightly singed, leather clad arm with brightly coloured sew-on patches.

His slightly wild train of thought was confirmed when Tim looked to his left to find his own unconscious body steadily breathing beside him.

“Aw hell no.”

Chapter 1: Spice Up Your Life

Chapter Text

Tim woke up to a surprising lack of headache.

Huh, why had he been expecting a headache? As he started to sit up the brain fog began to clear, allowing him to remember, Oh, that's right, I just got hit with a magic fireball.

The combustible magic spell in question seemed to have slammed him against the most eastern wall of this Easy-Bake oven factory. Huh, that's funny, he doesn’t seem to feel the consequences of that either.

What Tim hadn't expected to come across during their simple, two person recon mission was to be met with fire balls upon entry. But in this line of work he really should have.

Note to self: when safely back at HQ create battle strategies and contingency for if indestructible team members are attacked with magic fire.

So this thief is some kind of wizard, Tim thought. This honestly prompts more questions than answers in this factory pilfering case he's been sitting on for the past week. However, knowing that sorcery was involved opened a whole new avenue of thinking for him.

—----------------------------------

“Hmm?”

The previously unconscious Robin body started to stir at the sound of the other voice.

Tim nudged his (well, Superboy’s) foot against the groggy form next to him. “Kon? Kon, wake up.”

Robin looked at his own face as its expression welled with concern and confusion until finally locking eyes.

Kon stared for a moment. “Rob?”

“Yup.”

“Oh… no…”

Kon leered his head down and then back up, surveying the issue. “Well that's not… good.”

“I would have to agree with you there.” Tim sighed, closing his eyes for a moment.

“Also, OW! I’m pretty sure your everything is bruised, man.” Kon chuckled, expecting some kind of sympathy laugh, or whatever the Robin equivalent of that was. Instead, Robin seemed to be completely zoned out wearing a soft expression on his (Kon’s) face.

“Uhhh, dude? Rob?”

Tim seemed to finally snap out of it with a wince. “Sorry I just- I don’t think I’ve ever been more overstimulated in my entire life.”

“Well they don’t call ‘em super senses for nothing,” Kon smiled at Tim in a way that made his face feel a bit too stretched, like it had never smiled that wide before. The boy next to him seems to be completely unaware of this fact as he was apparently very interested in the wall opposite them. “Ok seriously dude are you good? You're freaking me out.”

“I can feel the floor plan of this place.” Tim said at the general direction of west. “I’m not supposed to be able to do that.”

Kon rolled his eyes. “Yeah man, cause I’m supposed to be able to do that.”

Robin rigidly turned to look at his own face. “You mean that you’ve been able to map out a building with your mind THIS WHOLE TIME!”

Kon winced “Well ok not the whole building, that’s a lot of work, but like maybe a fair portion I guess.” He dared a look at his team leader behind a guilty smile. Rob just looked back at him like a bull who just saw red. “Of course this is what you're mad at.” Kon sighed into his green gloves. “We aren't in our own bodies right now. I feel like this is not our biggest issue.”

Robin immediately snapped out of his pissed off look and his general grogginess and into -what Superboy has affectionately named- ‘Total Bird Mode’. “You're right, we need to get back to HQ, return to our normal bodies and find our perp.”

Kon curtly nodded. “Ok awesome, how do we get back?”

“We call Cassie to pick us up.”

“Isn’t she doing like Wonder Woman boot camp in Themoscria? I don’t think phones work over there.”

“No, they don’t.” Tim sighed. “How about we call Bart-”

“Does Bart even have a phone?”

“He had like four last time I checked.”

“Why the fuck does Bart need four phones?”

“Not the point.” Tim began patting down Kon’s leather jacket. “Where do you keep your communicator?”

“I didn't bring it.”

“Pardon.”

“Ok no stop looking at me like that, it’s super weird on my face. I just mean that like I was going with you so if we had to call anyone or whatever you'd prolly just do it.”

Tim stopped craning his neck like an owl and deflated like a disappointed teacher. “You know what, I'll have time to yell at you later. Just gimme my one.” Kon breathed a sigh of relief as if he were Atlas and someone just took the weight of the world off of his shoulders. He winced in unfamiliar pain as he moved Robin’s limbs around searching his comms or phone or whatever fancy bat gadget he uses. After another moment of searching Tim rolled his eyes and abruptly grabbed Kon’s forearm and yanked off a green gauntlet.

“Ow! Lord above, do you feel like this all the time or is it just the magic shit? Also are your gloves supposed to be smoking like that?”

Tim looked down and sure enough the magic fire had melted the surface of the gauntlets and the insides had lightly caught fire.

 “We are so fucked.”
