truly, it sucks to be an omega

Summary:

I took the same basis of the omega au written by thefirecrest and their book “the scent of your heart” Go read it, it is written beautifully and very entertaining

Many years ago the omegan birth rate began to decrease rapidly, followed by a very low survival rate after the age of presentation. Many many omega’s did not survive they’re 16th birthday. The ones that did, was because they were gazed upon by an Aeon, this seemed to be a layer of protection.

Since Omega’s are so rare they are naturally a precious commodity that everyone wants. For a planet to have even one is a symbol of high status, since there are less than 100 recorded omegas left in the universe it means very few planets have them.

Due to factors like this, many opposed you joining the astral express. You however dont give a fuck what others oppose to your doing. Your home planet has tried to claim you multiple times and the IPC has come really close multiple times to getting what they wished.

Truly, it sucks to be an omega.

(will be written in a non-linear order)(literally me just writing whatever comes to mind)

“I am not wearing that aeon forsaken collar” you stated, like it was an ultimatum.

“Please! That Ipc said in order to enter penacony you have to wear it!” March 7th pleaded.

“I dont give a flying fuck what the ipc wants! I didn’t have to wear it on the xianzhou and belobog!”

“Thats because the IPC doesn’t control those area’s-well didn’t at the time for belobog..”

Dan Heng attempted to jump you from behind but you dodged last second, March tried to jump on you and managed to knock you down, but somehow whenever you really don’t want to do something you gain the strength of an aeon so you managed to get her off of you. The trailblazer just watched the entire encounter with racoon eyes.

This went on for 10 minutes before himeko stepped in.

“If we all scent the collar, will you wear it?” that made you stop in your tracks, as much as you hated collars you did love himeko and the rest of the astral express-himeko’s the one you respect the most.

If you had ears like the people on the xianzhou, they would be dropping down sadly right now, but you don’t so instead you make a visibly sad face before letting out a low “fine”.

The next time you see an IPC person you are going to jump them-hopefully its skott, the guy gets on your nerves.

Unfortunately it was some dude named Aventurine- you were about to tackle him but Himeko's hand grabbing the back of your shirt made you stop in your tracks.

Then another stupid dude named Sunday showed up, the overwhelming alpha stench made you want to throttle him.

But then you noticed his sister. A fellow omega.

You both kind of stared at each other in recognition, the scent’s you both gave off seemed to be having a conversation themselves.

After what felt like a long time you sighed. Fine, the annoying bird guy could live.

Also himeko was still holding the back of your shirt so you didn’t get the chance.

____________________________________________________

Amorphous or at least getting into it had been a huge bust. Your first thought had been that pompom was going to kill you for destroying one of his train carts and your second was plots on how to bribe him not to kill you. Then the third you remembered that you're an omega and killing you would be way worse legally than actual murder.

Despite the rather dramatic entrance you all made it out safe(totally), what wasn't safe was the fact that monsters were coming out in droves, the more you fought, the more showed up. Weirdly enough they were a little more scared by you hissing at them then you socking them in the face.

The smell of an Alpha hit your nose before you saw him. In a single hit he eliminated all the monsters, said something you couldn't quite catch, grabbed the trailblazers galactic baseball bat and broke dan heng spears thing.

So obviously it was mild annoyance at first sight, you wanted to jump him, but an imaginary himeko stopped you.

It appeared your annoyance made your scent get stronger which made the white boy notice you, immediately he looked stunned.

“If the next words that come out of your mouth are: An Omega! What are you doing here!? I am going to throttle you”

The white boy looked even more stunned

So long story short you all ended up going to okhema and along the way you picked up 3 girls all collectively named tribios but like in 3 forms and another named mydei who pissed you off even more.

He didn’t seem to be as threatened by your threat to throttle him as much as phainon was.

Your level of pissiness decreases when the mydei dude lets you take your anger out on the monsters, he wasn’t the type to demand an omega and be protected, which made you like him.

You encountered a girl named Castorice who you could tell was a beta, you don’t know why but you instantly liked her.

(you may or may not have cursed out a bunch of those monsters but himeko doesn’t need to know)

(I wanted to write more here but i got stuck so im just gonna end this segment

Staring directly at Jiaoqiu, you curse the borison dude for having been born.

Jiaoqiu, on the other hand, was cursing jing yuan for letting you walk out and about when this menace was walking in the streets.

Hoolay was wondering why you two were staring at each other so hard. So he immediately decided to ragebait you.

“Run along, little omega. We may be brutes but were not that low to attack an omega. Go back to your pathetic little pack”

Jiaoqiu couldn’t believe this luck, he was able to get you to go away safely.
On the other hand, you were thinking much more differently.

“Don’t crash out, don’t crash out, don’t crash out- you promised himeko you wouldn’t crash out. Wait a minute he called my pack pathetic. That means he called himeko pathetic- but you promised himeko you wouldn’t crash out”

While your eye was twitching hoolay was getting impatient, “I said, run along you weak little-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”

You couldn’t help it, you jumped him and absolutely destroyed the public menace known as hoolay.

This is exactly what happens when your ragebaiting actually works.

Later you and Jiaoqiu took the defeated hoolay back to prison.

You got a medal which made you very happy.

Himeko did get mad at you though.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your homeworld had been one controlled by the IPC, it was one of the firsts it colonized, thus being a stronghold of sorts for the IPC. That also meant it hosted a couple of omega’s.

Why your planet had been the IPC’s choice to store their omega’s had been a mystery that you actually did find out the answer to- it was not well known that in order for an omega to survive their 16th birthday-the day they present they have to obtain the gaze of an Aeon. Your home planet has been near where Qilpoth is building his wall, making it more likely for him to gaze upon potential omegas.

Your great great grandmother had been an omega, meaning there was always a chance that someone in your family would present as one. Thus you were taken care of by the IPC.

By taken care of, you really meant suffocated. Your parents had suffocated you with their overprotectiveness and infantilism. The last thing you needed was people paid to do that.

Being a relative of an omega-even a dead one meant that you could occasionally hang out with other omega’s-so you saw first hand how much worse that suffocation could get, was this what they truly wanted? To be a prisoner in a gilded cage?.

(since your world had been so IPC regulated you were of course fed their propaganda, it wasn’t until many years later that you learned all the horrible things they’ve done- and how some of the omega’s they’ve gained were gained rather unethically, which made the fact the IPC suffocated them all the worse)

Reading any novels you can get your hands on was your only taste of freedom, imagining flying through the skies on a dragon- facing off against a monster, and saving the princess from her tower became as close to freedom as you can get too.

Or at least it was, until the astral express landed on your planet. It was a big event as they’re known to be the people who represent Akivili, an Aeon who wasn’t the most powerful but rather the most respected. They’ve been known to save countless worlds, they’d been out of commission for so long so it was quite the event to see them move for the first time in a very long time.

The capacity at the time had only been two but it was still a cool experience regardless.

The Navigator, Himeko, had been weirdly nice to you- weird as in she actually respected your opinion. She showed you pictures from the astral express’s many travels when they were online and even introduced you to Pom pom. The conductor.

You were so enamoured by Himeko and the express that you quite literally had to be dragged away by some of the guards accompanying your family.

On your next visit with himeko she had informed you that they express was set to set out on their first expedition in two weeks, exactly when your 16th birthday was happening- exactly when you were going to present.

You wondered if after you presented as a beta or alpha if your parents would let you go and you could potentially become a nameless. There was no way you’d present as a omega. You’d thought.

Of course life decided to fuck you instead.

One week before your birthday you started showing signs of presenting- signs that a not omega educated planet would fail to notice.

Signs that you were going to present as an omega.

Your scent started to sweeten, and you found yourself wanting to nest multiple times a day. Blankets that used to feel fine to you now felt like sandpaper.

Everyone of course started to freak out, it’d been a while before someone started to show signs of presenting as an omega- they wanted to get you closer to Qilpoth in hopes he’d look at you, you however refused to leave your room- your room felt right and you refused to leave it.

On the day of your birthday when you could present at any minute so they forced you out of your room and dragged you out so they could take you on a spaceship to Qilpoth.

At that point you’ve given up but then some people had a conversation while you were being escorted.

“I heard the astral express is departing today”

“Shame, they were so good with the kids”

It hit you then, if you successfully presented as an omega and didn’t do it you would never have freedom. If you didn’t present successfully and died then you would have never experienced freedom at all.

Himeko- she’d given you the closest thing to freedom you were allowed, she was so kind and so nice to you.

Even if it's just once and no matter what fate brings you, you’d like to experience freedom just once.
So you made your mind up, you bolted. Running past all the IPC employees that quickly become alarmed at seeing you run, running past everything that ever kept you caged.

You know your way around your city, taking the fastest way to train tracks you make it in no time.

The train however is already leaving- so you yell at the top of your lungs.

Surprisingly himeko actually hears you because she pulls up the blinds and the window.

“Take me with you!” you yelled

“What!?”

“I said take me with you!” himeko looked astounded, still she opened the door to the train.

“Why would you want to leave your home planet!?” she yelled, but still reached a hand out to you.

“I want..” you desperately tried to reach her hand, feeling yourself slipping.

What was it you truly wanted…to be free? Reject your parents? Or was it something else, something you’ve been lying to yourself about…

“I want ... .I WANT TO CREATE A NEW PATH FOR OMEGA’S, ONE WHERE WERE TREATED LIKE PEOPLE!”

Somehow you got a burst of energy and you grabbed Himeko's hand, feeling relief as you got pulled onto the train.

Moments later you realized what gave you that energy to actually catch a speeding train.

The gaze of an Aeon.

(fun fact, there are only going to be 3 canon omega playable characters in this book, excluding yourself. you've already met one I want you guys to guess who the last two are)
