Chapter Text
Chloe's day got off to a bad start. Trixie had had a nightmare last night. She still had them occasionally ever since Malcolm had taken her from school, somewhere that should have been a safe place. She made a mental note to ask Linda for advice. It had taken some time to get her settled again. The result was that neither of them got enough sleep.
They overslept and she allowed Trixie to have the sugary cereal she loved for breakfast since there wasn't time to cook anything. It was too late to catch the bus and she had to drive her to school herself, meaning the traffic was worse when she finally headed for the precinct.
She was only ten minutes late for her shift when she pulled into the parking lot. It felt like more because she always made a point of being early. There hadn't even been time to fill her travel mug. Break room coffee would have to do.
Inside she hurried down the stairs to the bullpen intending to bypass her desk and grab some much needed caffeine first, to get this day back on track. She did a double take though as she passed her desk, catching sight of something bright red. She turned to take a proper look and found her consultant, utterly relaxed, signature Louboutins with their red soles propped up on her desk.
"Good morning Detective!" he said far too cheerfully in her opinion. "Good morning Lucifer." She spotted a large cup from her favourite coffee bar on the desk. "Is that..?"
"Your favourite, yes." She grabbed the cup and took a mouthful, failing to stifle a moan. "Oh, I could kiss you."
Lucifer's eyebrows shot up. "Really?" he purred. His eyes dipped to her lips for a second. "Feel free darling, you have my full consent." Chloe's eyes opened wide, perhaps for the first time this morning as she felt her cheeks heat. "Oh God, did I say that out loud?"
"We can leave my Father out of it, but yes indeed you did," he said with a grin.
Chloe rubbed a hand across her face. "Uh, I just really needed good coffee." His grin was getting wider. She huffed. "Lucifer, it's just a turn of phrase." His look softened. "You don't seem your normal self this morning."
"I'm fine, just didn't get much sleep."
"Ooh, in a fun way?" he said with glee. "No."
"Okay, get your overpriced feet off my desk and why are you here so early anyway?" He rearranged his long limbs and stood. "The text message," he said brandishing his phone. "The lieutenant desires to meet with us." Chloe went for her pocket and closed her eyes. "Great. I left my cell phone home on the charger."
"Now I know there's something wrong, my detective would never do that." Chloe raised her eyebrows. "Your detective?" He cleared his throat and adjusted his cufflinks. "Yes, well, as you say, turn of phrase." Chloe sighed. "What have you done, why does the lieutenant want to see us?"
"I am completely innocent," he said with an affronted look. "Uh-huh."
