Lance doesn’t like to admit it, but the amount of anxiety he has regarding his blossoming relationship with Keith is something that causes a breakdown at least once a week. Now, realistically, Lance knows that there is no need for the amount of anxiety that he has. After all, Keith is incredibly upfront about his feelings for Lance. In fact, Keith has been considerably more… kind and gentle with Lance entirely ever since the war ended and Keith explained what happened during that time he was gone with Krolia. Well, kind of explained…
It’s all a long story. The long and the short of it is that Keith saw the past, present, and future while he was gone because he was on some space creature or whatever and.. Honestly, Lance doesn’t quite understand it because Keith never explains the actual creature they were traveling alongside.
All of this to say, Keith is clearly very secure in their relationship. He never explains how the weird space animal-alien-thing is involved with this, but he says that he has seen parts of the future that make Keith more than comfortable with Lance. Which is great… for Keith.
Meanwhile, Lance still struggles with finding his place in the grand scheme of things and no matter how many times Keith assures him that he loves Lance there is still a part of him that is waiting… Waiting for Keith to disappear.
Which he won’t! And Lance, again, realistically knows this!
Life is hard when you are an anxious, people pleasing, kind man.
“You seem like you’ve got a lot going on in that pretty little brain of yours, darlin’… “ Keith wraps his arms around Lance, pulling him closer in their shared bed.
”I’m okay,” Lance whispers. He looks at Keith and sees the look of complete distrust in Keith’s eyes.
”You practically have anxiety radiating off of you. You don’t need to lie.”
”You love me, right?” Lance suddenly asks.
”Of course I do,” Keith frowns. He runs his fingers through Lance’s hair. “What makes you ask that?”
”I— There are just so many really amazing people in the universe and I don’t know if I’m good enough for you and…” Lance trails off, no longer making eye contact with Keith.
”You are the most amazing person I have ever met.”
”That can’t be true.”
”It is! Lance, I wouldn’t lie to you.”
Lance shrugs which makes Keith frown more.
”Do you think I’m going to find someone better?” Keith asks.
Lance shrugs again.
”Because I’m not going to. You are the best. You’re stuck with me, love.”
”What if you change your mind?”
”I won’t. I swear it on my life.”
Keith holds Lance tight and it leaves no room for argument. Keith loves Lance for exactly who he is.
“You are perfect to me. In my eyes, you are everything I want in life. No one will ever be you.”
”Keith…”
”I love you more than I love anything else.”
”You’re going to make me cry.”
”You are the best boyfriend I could have. I don’t always believe that I deserve you. But I know I do. Just like I know that there is no one in the entire universe that I would love more than you.”
Lance lays closer to Keith, his eyes prickling with tears.
”You are my forever, Lance.”
”I love you,” Lance whispers.
”I love you too. Please do not ever doubt that.”
”I won’t…”
”I’m not leaving your side,” Keith promises, “I’ll be here until the day that I die.”
