Work Text:

The Gun Runners were highly recommended when it came to weaponry, and luckily accepted the same caps used as currency in the Capital Wasteland.
It was funny, how bottle caps seem to have replaced the dollar. She could not say how that had become a national trend, but it definitely had.
Then again, America was not exactly a nation anymore. The New California Republic was, and that was who she was looking for.

Had been looking for. They had been waylaid by the Mojave, the Las, now New, Vegas Strip, as well as the Followers of the Apocalypse. It had been Beatrix, a ghoul guard at the Old Mormon Fort who had recommended visiting the Gun Runners.
Her sword from Anchorage had started falling, the electrical charges sputtering out, and everyone she asked about repairs said she would need a new power cell and recabling.

So, she had decided to get a new sword. It was not like she was struggling for caps.

There was a vast array on options, but the appeal of a flaming blade was far above anything else she could have considered.
The sword was called Gehenna, named after a location from the Hebrew Bible, in which children were sacrificed by fire, she learned later from the Followers texts.

She did not plan on sacrificing any children with the blade, but rather protecting them. That was the intention, at least.
The Mojave was safer than the Capital, undoubtedly, but the growing mass of the Legion would certainly be tasting burning steel sooner rather than later.

She smiled to herself, the expression unseen as she relaxed in her home beside the New Vegas Clinic, Gehenna tucked by her side.

Harkness’ gun sat on Silvia’s desk, scented with almonds from a polish they purchased off of an NCR Merchant. It looked surprisingly innocent for something capable of such destruction.

It contained one of her best memories from the Capital. Harkness teaching her how to shoot a laser weapon, reminded her of her Father and Jonas teaching her everything they could about medicine.

Laser weapons worked better for her vision, she had discovered, after more than a few dangerous mishaps with regular guns.
It was the sights, the laser focus helped her spot targets when usually they would simply be a blur, despite her prescription glasses.

That was another benefit of being near to the NCR, Silvia decided. They actually had opticians. Which is very useful, considering that Silvia does enjoy the ability to see.

It felt good to have a new sword in hand. A faithful gun, a new sword, and a set of polished power armour. Certainly made life better.
