Charon.
He looms above her, blocking the doorway from the office. The only way in or out. His eyes nearly glow in the dark, bright like embers. Her blood freezes like ice when she sees him.
She sucks in a breath, and says, “Please don’t—”
Don’t what?
Kill her?
Report her to Moriarty?
He makes no move to leave the doorway. But he doesn’t call out for Moriarty, either. Doesn’t reach for the shotgun on his back, or the knife on his belt. She feels his eyes burn into her. Waiting.
She barely presses her eyes closed before she blinks them open, a stupid plan forming on her lips. One she has no real confidence will work.
“I could…” she starts, her throat dry. Her eyes flick from the belt on his pants up to his burning eyes. “Make it worth your while?”
It’s a stupid plan.

Along with deepening long-term relationships and brand new ones (HEATHER CASDIN!!!), our heroes attempt to unravel the mystery of why synths are almost human but can't procreate, why Nora's synth son Shaun doesn't age, and why Piper's ass is the best ass in the Wasteland.
This story has deep character development, slow-burn romance, lots of description and dialogue, and taboo situations aplenty. The Lone Wanderer is a figure almost out of the comic books. The hero of the Capitol Wastes, who brought Aqua Pura to the Capitol Wastes. Who is credited with the fall of The Pitt, of Paradise Falls, and the Enclave. They are a mysterious figure rumored to still wander the wastes in their Vault 101 jumpsuit and Tunnel Snakes jacket with a baseball bat resting across their shoulders as they try to find the next group that needs rescuing. The identity of this hero has become something of a secret, partially cultivated and partially because many didn't know that they had passed through their towns to do good until the tales had reached them on the radio.
Only a trusted few know the name of the individual, let alone their face. Because Blair Birmingham is no saint, and they're the first to tell you this. The Minuteman is the last person that anybody would believe was the legendary hero. Crass, nihilistic, and a self-proclaimed bad parent. But once upon a time, she was a bright-eyed girl taking her first steps into the wastes in search of her father. She didn't know what laid before her, she had no way to know who and what she would become, or what she would lose.
And they wouldn't have it any other way.
