Soulmates are something that Ryan's believed in from day one, despite marrying Sam.
Learning about Blue, about Dixie sharing Don's mark too, that shook Ryan up.
So, color him surprised, when on a routine call at a bar, he finds his soulmate while patching up a guy with blonde hair who's eyes shine blue.
He and Sam gave up when she found her soulmate at the hospital. She wanted to be with her soulmate, and he wasn't going to stand in her way.
But now, he's staring at his own soulmate, the dove mark on his shoulder just below a cut he noticed when patching up his cheek.
"Nice mark," murmurs Ryan as he gets a bandage across the jagged cut.
"Thanks," the blonde shies away from him as he smooths his thumb over the bandage, and Ryan jolts.
"I am so sorry, I just— uh— the mark, it kinda looks like mine," Ryan scrambles to explain, then he slaps a glove-covered hand over his mouth.
Ryan uses his free hand to gather everything he'd brought, eyes dropping to watch what he's doing and avoid looking at the blonde.
He never got his name.
Ryan's never felt like a bigger idiot in his life than he does right now.
"Wait! Can I see?" the blonde reaches out a shaking hand to rest on Ryan's own, and their eyes meet. "Will you show your mark to me, Ryan?"
"Um," Ryan is nervous, but he sighs and adjusts his shirt to show the dove on his left shoulder. "This is mine."
"That's—" the blonde sounds breathless, and it's hot. "That's my mark. It's… Can I— Skin-to-skin would— Are you comfortable with letting me touch your dove?"
"I— Umm, how about this? If you tell me your name, I'll give you my answer," replies Ryan nervously as he tips his head to the side.
"My name is Luca. Do you want my last name too? I'm a player for the Ottawa Centaurs," murmurs Luca softly, and Ryan feels his knees go a bit weak.
He's fucking adorable.
"Last name isn't necessary yet," Ryan's voice holds a teasing tone. "You can touch, Luca."
Those eyes lock on the dove as his fingers dance across the skin to the right before slowly, so fucking slowly, sliding over. Electricity dances over his skin as Luca's fingers meet Ryan's mark.
The mark Ryan never expected to find double of, despite dreaming he would.
"You can touch too," murmurs Luca as he steps forward, closing the space and slightly towering over Ryan, glasses tipping as he stares at the mark they share.
Ryan lifts his hand slowly to touch the mirrored mark, nerves lighting up. When he does press his fingertips into the dove, his entire body tingles as the mark colors into a pulsing red.
His gasp matches Luca's as their eyes rise to meet each other's.
Confirmation.
Actual confirmation.
There's determination spiking in blue eyes, and Ryan knows, they'll fight together to protect this.
