Blue's shaking his head while Ryan tosses a rope toy to his dog, Bandit.
It's brunch day, and he'd come early to help Blythe cook, but he ended up getting dragged outside by Ryan to meet Bandit.
It was nice, to meet the pup who seems to really love attention.
But it's even nicer to watch Ryan play with him.
The sight is flutter inducing.
Worse than the puppy crush he had on Taylor.
It's been a while, since everything kind of happened and settled down, but Taylor found someone she really likes. And she's been giving Blue shit about this crush he has on his half-brother since he told her.
He's honest, and he already left the 113 because his mom started hell with Don, Blythe, and their Fire Chief. The only option left was for Blue to walk to protect both the station and his family, so he walked.
He wanted Taylor to know she didn't have to talk to him ever again, but the truth needed to be shared when he decided to end things. She was grateful, then it only took two days for her to come up to him and ask why he won't just tell Ryan how he feels.
She really started pestering him when Ryan and Sam's divorce was finalized.
But Blue told her that his feelings for Ryan would never see the light of day, not that she, or Roxie, give a damn about listening.
They've put him in a group chat and keep messaging him about telling Ryan how he feels. It gets worse when he goes in there whining about how much he wants to kiss his older half-brother.
But they know he's not to the point of confessing.
It's hard to put himself out there, but it's even harder when it's for his half-brother.
Even if Blythe already gave him the shovel talk and then proceeded to ask if he needs help asking Ryan out. That was fun, and literally just before Ryan burst into the kitchen and dragged him out to come meet his pup.
"Sweetheart, can you bring my phone over?" hollers Ryan as he pats his thighs to get Bandit's attention.
Blue grabs the phone on auto-pilot only to freeze as soon as he's standing because there's no fucking way Ryan just called him that. His eyes are locked on his brother's form, watching him stiffen as Bandit reaches him, and he sees the flinch that echoes across him. So, Blue shakes himself out of it, putting a teasing grin on his face and jogs out to Ryan with his phone in hand.
"Not your Sweetheart, but here's your phone," says Blue teasingly as he stops next to him and holds out his phone while Bandit huffs and takes off with his toy still hanging in his mouth.
"I mean, you could be my Sweetheart," mutters Ryan so low that Blue isn't even sure he actually heard him speak until he clears his throat, ears burning as he takes his phone. "Thanks, Blue."
"Hold on, did you—" Blue's voice cracks in his surprise as he turns to Ryan, brows furrowing harshly. "You want me to be your Sweetheart, Ry?"
"I mean— I said it, didn't I?" asks Ryan as he turns to look at him properly too, arching a brow as his arms cross over his chest, phone out of sight.
"But did you mean it?" retorts Blue as he tips his head to the side, hope unfurling in his chest like an ember glow.
Ryan's face seems to smooth out as his eyes search Blue's for an answer in silence, until he steps forward, arms uncrossing to lift, warm hands settling on his chest.
"I meant it, Sweetheart," replies Ryan seriously, voice soft and filled with sincerity.
"Thank fuck," breathes Blue as he leans in and presses their foreheads together, relief and happiness swirling heavily through his chest.
"Be my Sweetheart, Blue?" asks Ryan softly as he tips his head some to nuzzle their noses together sweetly.
"Yours, Ry," murmurs Blue as their lips brush with the words.
"Good, we'll talk dates later. Right now, I need you to kiss me, Sweetheart," whispers Ryan as he tips up a bit more, hands sliding up into dark strands.
Blue huffs in amusement before pressing their lips together in a slow kiss, gentle until the pressure becomes more.
Chaste until Ryan nips at his bottom lip and drags a groan out of him.
Safe until he licks into Ryan's mouth, and those fingers twine around his hair and tugs.
Blue can't keep this safe for where they are, he's falling into Ryan's kiss, his touch, his aching want, and he doesn't care about who might see.
He just lets his hands settle on Ryan's waist before sliding around to rest on his lower back, fingers nudging at his jeans as they press close. But a wet nose nuzzling at Blue's arm has him snorting out of the kiss before he can truly get lost to see Bandit sitting beside them, panting happily, toy sitting on their shoes.
"Looks like Bandit wants to play some more," murmurs Blue as Ryan presses his face into his chest and starts chuckling. "I'm gonna see if Blythe is ready to carry everything to the table. You wear this cute pup out some more."
"Sounds good, then maybe you can come to the house later for a dinner date?" offers Ryan as he leans back with a hopeful smile.
"I'd love to," replies Blue as he kisses him gently on the nose before pulling completely away, swooping down to pick up the toy and hand it to Ryan. "But who says we have to wait until dinner?"
He winks as Ryan's lips part in surprise, then he turns and heads back to the house.
Blue knows Blythe was watching, can see her hair as she ducks out of view of the window, so he knows that as soon as he steps inside the house, she's going to be on his ass. But, as his lips tingle, he doesn't care about the curiosity that will spill over now. He just cares about the happiness swelling in his chest and curving his puffy lips.
