You look like a girl

Summary:

This is a meaningless story I just craved to write for whatever reason, enjoy (or not) this stuff I'm writing IN SCHOOL because I fucking can, just don't take it too seriously because let's be honest I don't think this could ever end up having a real plot or whatever

Chapter 1: How it all started

Chapter Text

Nagisa had always known he was supposed to be a girl. His mom wanted a daughter, and he was painfully aware of it. Even now, he had to keep his hair long for her. Not his taste at all, but he preferred that rather than whatever his mother's reaction would be.

Until the day he met that thing.

The encounter happened in a public park.

That day, Jakotsu really had nothing to do with his life. Boredom was his worst enemy, so outside he went, casting judgment on anyone he lay eyes on. Perhaps even call them names. Normie, normie, normie again... at least they didn't stay very long, each of them occupied by something.

Except for that one kid, sitting on one of the park benches. Cute face, long blue hair, playing with what looked like a rubber knife, that one actually looked interesting. Not that a girl would ever be able to kill him, especially with whatever the fuck she was holding, but still worth checking out.

"Hey missy, you do know that rubber doesn't stab shit, right?"

Nagisa stared at the strange human being that just spoke to him. The contrast was striking between this over-the-top appearance and cockiness and that stench of rotting corpse mixed with dirt. As much as he didn't want to be rude, he wasn't exactly interested in conversing with her.

"You wouldn't understand what this is for."

"Nonsense! I have fought countless men in my mercenary career, and believe me that none of them could ever kill if they had something like what you're holding."

"Even an immortal octopus that can only be wounded by this specific material?"

Jakotsu stayed quiet for a second. He had, in fact, never even so much as met an immortal octopus. His hand went straight to his sword, Jakotsutou. That sounded like lots of fun.

"Little girls like you can't kill. Leave the octopus to me."

Mere seconds later, Nagisa's harmless blade was at his throat.

"First of all, killing him is my homework. I can't graduate otherwise. Second, my lady, I'm not a girl and would appreciate it if you started referring to me as a boy instead."

The two made eye contact for a minute, almost as if challenging each other. Then, Jakotsu spoke up.

"Little shit, I have a dick too you know."

Nothing else. Just a simple confession. Yet, despite their differences, knowing they were both out of the norm in such a simple way was comforting.

For whatever reason, they chose to spend the afternoon together. An unlikely pair, but a functional one regardless.

That night, when he came back home, Nagisa could only think about his encounter with Jakotsu. Even as his mother scolded him harshly for coming back late, his thoughts remained about his new friend. A complete weirdo who had cursed a squirrel's entire bloodline for trying to steal his hairpin. Someone who shamelessly swung his snake-like sword at that same squirrel when it came back five minutes later. What kind of crazy man had a sword on him in a park anyways?

Whatever, the guy was friendly, so it was fine.

It couldn't possibly go wrong being friends with him, could it?
