Harry felt relieved just hearing Severus voice. After the war they had slowly become friends. Carefully, awkwardly, working through years of hatred and misunderstandings And somewhere along the way, Harry had fallen for him. Completely. Of course, he had never done anything about it. They were friends n Severus would never want anything more from him.

Malfoy studied him carefully he glanced briefly at Ginny before speaking. “Yes. It’s Snape.”
Another gasp filled the room
“But Malfoy -” Ron began “Ouch! Hermione, why did you hit me?” Ron yelped
Harry’s heart began racing. Severus? For real? Had he actually worked up the courage to ask him out?
And Severus had… said yes? Had Severus really had feelings for him? “For real?” Harry asked, looking directly at the man still leaning against the wall.
Severus’s lips pressed into a thin line. His eyes flashed with something dangerously close to murder. Finally Severus said, “Yes.”
But he didn’t sound happy. Why?

Harry rested his head on Severus’s shoulder, draped one arm across his chest, and hooked a leg loosely over his. Severus smelled warm and familiar. Harry sighed contentedly. Severus was so tense beside him it was almost comical. Harry pressed a quick kiss to Severus’s cheek. He felt the sharp inhale immediately. “Night, Sev,” Harry murmured sleepily.
Then Severus’s arm slowly tightened around him “Good night… Harry.”

Severus had shifted closer. He was practically plastered against Harry’s back, one arm wrapped securely around his waist. His chest felt firm and warm against Harry’s shoulders, his breath against the back of Harry’s neck.
Something hard pressed against his arse. Harry stilled stomach fluttered faintly, he pressed back just a little closer. Oh damn. Behind him, Severus groaned softly. “Harry…” he murmured sleepily, nuzzling slightly against Harry’s neck. The warm breath sent a small shiver down Harry’s spine.
Then suddenly Severus froze “Harry!” The bed shifted abruptly as Severus all but fled from it.
Harry blinked in confusion as he watched the man disappear into the bathroom. What in the world -“Severus?” Harry called.
“Just had to use the loo,” Severus said quickly through the door.

Harry always had to initiate things. He had to start the kisses. And every time, Severus hesitated before finally giving in. But Then the man practically melted under Harry’s hands. Harry had noticed it again and again. The way Severus’s breathing changed. The way his fingers tightened against Harry’s back. The way he leaned into every touch as though starved for it. And still… sometimes Harry would catch Severus watching him. With a look of longing that Harry didn’t understand.

“Happy birthday,” he said.
“Thank you,” Harry replied with a warm smile. Without thinking much about it, he stepped forward, wrapped his arms around Severus, and pulled him into a kiss.
Severus shuddered faintly, clearly startled - but he responded. The kiss was warm and soft, Severus’s lips parting just slightly before he seemed to remember himself. After a moment he carefully pulled back.

Just before he drifted off, he thought he felt Severus pull him a little closer. And somewhere behind him, a hoarse whisper brushed against his ear “…love you.”

Malfoy had his affairs. Harry had known. It had never mattered. Because Harry hadn’t loved him. Malfoy hadn’t loved him either. And Harry had stayed. Out of habit.
Because the other option - the man he truly wanted - had never wanted him. Or so Harry had believed. And now he knew something else. He had never stopped loving Severus. Not when he was twenty. And not when he was twenty-five.
“Out.” Harry’s voice was cold enough to cut glass “We’re done.”
Malfoy blinked, stunned sneered. “No one breaks up with a Malfoy.”
“I just did,” Harry said evenly. “I do not love you. I never have.

Harry shifted closer on the couch “First of all, I broke up with Malfoy. Something I should have done months ago.”
Severus’s head snapped up. His eyes widened.
“And second,” Harry continued “I didn’t dream it last night. You said you love me. Didn’t you?”
For a moment Severus didn’t move. Then he gave a small, reluctant nod. Harry let out a quiet breath “Merlin, We wasted so much time.” Harry gently took Severus trembling, cold hands in his own “I never loved Malfoy,” Harry said quietly “I only stayed with him because I believed I never had a chance with you.” “Because I do love you, you stupid man.”“The last week was the happiest of my life. I was so happy when I woke up from that accident and learned that I had finally gathered the courage to ask you out.”
And this time it was Severus who moved first. He pulled Harry close, one hand burying itself in Harry’s hair “We truly were fools,” Severus murmured. Then he kissed him. -
