Wemmbu was slain by—
He was banned off the server simply because Jaden was too slow to move out of the way.
Okay, he wasn’t actually banned. The warmth of the sun beaming down his face told him that he wasn’t dead.
Wemmbu hated how much fun he had with Jaden when he was having his ‘Invisible Knight’ arc when he was supposed to be his enemy. He hated how he let Jaden rebuild his Pirate civilization, and he hated how much cared.
A groan slipped out of Wemmbu’s mouth, sitting up with a hand clenched onto his head while he squinted his eyes to adjust to the new scenery.
He was with Jaden, at some random coordinates after Jaden came by to his base, wanting to hangout with Wemmbu.
Usually, he would’ve said no. Finding no time to adventure with anyone until he opened his mouth without permission and said yes without actually weighing his decisions first.
He doesn’t regret exploring with him. Wemmbu laughed, he joked, he had fun with someone other than Egg. So, when they were cornered by Arachnids army, not prepared—Jaden had almost died.
If it weren’t for Wemmbu, of course.
“What the…” Wemmbu breathed out, seeing the fields of sunflowers stretching on and on, the sunflowers all pointing towards the sun. His eyebrows furrowed, pushing himself up to get a better view.
“Where am I?” He squinted his eyes to at least try and spot something, but it was futile.
Wemmbu tried equipping his elytra, attempting to fly over the sunflower field, until it dawned on him that everything he originally had, was gone.
Wemmbu whined loudly, kicking the ground like a child and plopped himself back down onto the dirt. This is what he gets for saving Jaden? What a joke. But…
He doesn’t really regret it. Egg might go on his path of vengeance, and he’s not sure if Jaden can take the army all by himself, especially since it wasn’t raining so he couldn’t do his trident-macing, or whatever.
He’s stuck here. With nobody, with nothing, and all hope gone.
“You’re not supposed to be here.” Wemmbu’s eyes snapped open, standing up and backing away from whoever was behind him until he stopped at the sight of a familiar face.
“Rejoice?”
The man smiled, almost reassuring as if he was trying to reassure Wemmbu. “Did I scare you?” Rejoice walked until he was right infront of Wemmbu, watching his shoulders tense and relax.
“But I—What? Bro,” Wemmbu stuttered, running a hand through his hair while his eyes flickered everywhere, shocked at seeing an old friend. Wemmbu took a deep breath in, finally looking at Rejoice’s eyes, “How?”
Rejoice chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck, “It’s a bit complicated,” Rejoice turned his attention to the sun before back at Wemmbu, gesturing for him to follow, “Let’s get a better spot.”
Wemmbu hesitated before following right behind Rejoice, taking in his appearance.
He didn’t like any different from before, and that somehow made the reunion even worse for him.
The two stopped on top of a hill, Wemmbu panted with his hands on his knees while Rejoice looked perfectly well. “You do all that cardio but walking up a hill is where you cut it?” Rejoice laughed, Wemmbu rolling his eyes at the sound.
“Bro, walking up hill is horrible,” Wemmbu sighed, sitting down onto the grass and leaning back onto his hands, finding his muscles relax from all that climbing.
They watched the sunflowers weave in the air from the wind, Wemmbu being grateful that he wasn’t sitting on a bunch of sunflowers but grass instead. He hates to admit it, but crushing flowers is not the type of thing he does.
Sunflowers specifically.
“What is this place?” Wemmbu questions, breaking the silence between the two of them. Rejoice coughs on air when Wemmbu asks, the demon-hybrid turning to him unamused.
“It’s uh, it’s hard to explain,” Rejoice’s answer doesn’t please Wemmbu, the expression on his face making Rejoice raise his hands in surrender, “I’m telling the truth!”
Wemmbu keeps his gaze before sighing, “What, I’m, like, stuck here?” Rejoice winces, making a so-and-so gesture, confusing Wemmbu even further.
“Bro.”
“You’re not supposed to be here, like, you’re not dead, but you’re not alive either.” Rejoice tries to explain to the best of his abilities, Wemmbu just looking even more puzzled than before.
“You know Harry Potter?”
Wemmbu blinks, making Rejoice worried before he laughed out loud, finding his question so stupid. “Bro, of course I know Harry Potter. Egg forced me to watch it with him,” Rejoice sighs in relief at the response.
“Why are you even asking me that question in the first place, dawg?”
“In the last movie, Harry died but he’s in a boundary between life and death, I think, bro, I think.” Rejoice holds a hand to his chin, “I haven’t watched the movie in ages, but I know he meets with Dumbledore.”
Wemmbu pinches the bridge to his nose, “What are you even trying to say?”
Rejoice jolts with a snap of his finger, “You’re in a situation like that,” Wemmbu stares directly at him with a tired expression, “Then what are you doing here?” Rejoice pauses, before chuckling.
“I’m the Dumbledore in this situation.”
Wemmbu doesn’t speak, just lets the silence fall back into place. So, he’s dead, but he’s not actually dead, so…
“How do I get out?”
Rejoice pulls his lips into a tight line, he doesn’t want to be left alone again but he knows Wemmbu will be irritated if he doesn’t get an answer, and despite the want for company in his heart, Rejoice wants Wemmbu to keep living.
“The door will open soon,” Rejoice answers quietly, staring up at the sun before pointing at where Wemmbu was originally at, “Right there.”
Wemmbu drags out his groan, tilting his head up into the sky with a frown and a pout, “Jaden’s gonna die without me.” He grumbles out, covering his worry with annoyance.
Rejoice giggled, leaning back, “It’s nice to see you two getting along,” Rejoice smiles at Wemmbu, bumping his shoulder into his and ignoring the way Wemmbu pulls a face of judgment but secretly enjoying the moment, “You would’ve let him die there.”
The sunflowers in the field sways slightly with the wind, all pointing towards him while Wemmbu’s hair flows behind him, “Forgive and forget, that’s what you said.” Wemmbu remembered, eyeing him in the corners of his eyes, his heart aching at the sight of an old friend.
Rejoice’s expression softens, shutting his eyes and letting the warmth of the sun hit his face.
“Yeah.”
The two continue to sit in silence, Wemmbu finding the lack of enthusiasm from Rejoice concerning, looking at him time to time.
Wemmbu doesn’t necessarily suck at conversation making (he’s lying), but he feels bad for not catching up with Rejoice after missing the bright friend everyday for the past months.
He resents Jaden for that whenever missing Rejoice hits him hard one day, he wants to hear Jaden say he’s sorry, but whenever he has the chance to, Wemmbu locks up and keeps his mouth shut.
Wemmbu hates to admit it but, he’s scared. He’s scared of what’ll happen with their friendship, of how he’ll react when he brings up Rejoice because no matter how hard Wemmbu tries to seem strong, he’s weak.
Wemmbu cares, he cares too much. That’s his problem, that’s why he’s weak. He cares too much for Egg, for Minute, for Flame, for Parrot, for Spoke, for Jaden, for Mane, for Zam, for Boosfer, for Lopezz, for Rejoice, and embarrassingly enough, Lettuce. He never stops caring, he doesn’t think he has the guts to.
“I’m… sorry,” Rejoice’s eyes widen, his head turning to Wemmbu, whose cheeks are flushed in embarrassment and looking the other way.
“What?”
“For not saving you, for letting you die. I’m sorry.” Wemmbu repeats his words, voice quiet and meek, like he’s scared Rejoice will take advantage of how vulnerable he is despite knowing he’s not like that.
“I… I thought I’d get over it, your death, I mean. But, I never did.” Wemmbu brings his legs up, placing his chin onto the knees while staring at the sunflowers infront of him, “I wanted to kill Jaden once you died, but I knew you’d get mad, so I left him alive.”
Rejoice’s face softens, hand reaching out to place onto Wemmbu’s head, the expression he gets almost representing a black cat that’s annoyed by the touch.
“And even now, you’re leaving him to live.”
Wemmbu scoffs, brushing the hand on his head away, “That was out of my own volition bro, not because of what you said.” Rejoice chuckles, Wemmbu staring at the happiness on Rejoices face.
He missed that laugh.
“I missed you,” Rejoice admits, Wemmbu blinking out of his thoughts, “And Lopezz, and Egg, but you even more.” Rejoice smiles softly as he speaks, crossing his legs.
“You try so hard not to care, but I know you dooo.” Rejoice cooed, trying to pinch Wemmbu’s cheek, getting it slapped away by him, “It’s nice seeing you again, even though this moment is short.”
Wemmbu pauses with a guilty look, shoulders slumping. He doesn’t want to leave Rejoice again, he knows how isolated he was before Egg and him came to the abandoned civilization to kill Jaden.
Rejoice seemed to catch onto what Wemmbu was thinking when he placed a hand on his shoulder, “Just keep living, I don’t want to see you back here again anytime soon.” Rejoice gestures his head to the field, Wemmbu spotting a door.
Wemmbu jumps up, staring at his way out with his mouth agape, “Are—Are you sure? I mean, I can, like, stay here a bit longer—“ Wemmbu cuts his words short when he looks back down at Rejoice, seeing the look on his face.
“I know you want to leave, dude.”
Wemmbu nervously chuckles, “I—okay, bro.” Rejoice stands up when Wemmbu starts walking down the hill, his steps careful to make sure he doesn’t slip and eat shit.
He smiles sadly, turning around to start heading back to his home before he feels a weight on his back and arms around his waist.
“Bye.” Wemmbu whispers into his clothes, tightening his grip around Rejoice so he wouldn’t turn around and see how embarrassed, and awkward he was.
Rejoice relaxed, patting the arms around his waist, “Bye, Wemmbu.” The arms disappear and so does the presence behind, Rejoice doesn’t have the guts to see him walk away but once he does.
He sees Wemmbu at the door, staring right back at him with a small smile until he walks through it, Rejoice raising a hand to wave goodbye.
The last time they’ll ever see eachother again, and Rejoice finds this goodbye better than the first.
Wemmbu sits up with a gasp, clenching the blanket over him as he gasps for air. He was in his treehouse, Egg and Jaden on both sides of the bed while they stare at him with worry.
“Oh,” Wemmbu blinks, finding the eyes on him a bit overwhelming, “Hi.”
The only eye visible on Egg starts to water up, “Bro, I thought you died. I was ready to start my vengeance arc.” Wemmbu sweatdrop and chuckled, “You’d die once you start.”
“Bro!” Egg gasped in offence, “I’m the bravest warrior on this SMP, you know this. I get crazy glaze by people.” Wemmbu rolled his eyes at the jokes, opening his mouth to say something when he hears Jaden chuckling at the moment between the two.
“Yo, you didn’t die?”
Jaden raised an amused eyebrow, “They retreated once they got the death message, so yeah, I didn’t die, bro.” Wemmbu breathed out in relief, not even bothering to hide how worried he was.
“Bro, I knew you weren’t actually dead. Like, your body wasn’t disappearing when Jaden came here with you in his arms. It’s been 2 days,” Wemmbu’s jaw dropped in shock, it was only like a couple of hours with Rejoice, how could’ve it been 2 days?
“Dude, I’ve been, like, panicking. Because, like, what if someone raids this place? I can’t fight, bro!” Egg explains with his hands emphasizing his words, Wemmbu and Jaden staring at him with amusement.
“Egg, bro, it’s—it’s fine now. You don’t have to fight anyone, dawg.” Egg wiped the nonexistent sweat off his forehead, “Thank you, bro. I would’ve died.” Wemmbu pulled a confused face but didn’t say anything.
“Okay, I’m going back to my studies. All this time panicking, and I could’ve been studying. I’m gonna fail this exam, dude.” Egg got up from his seat, leaving the room while muttering under his breath.
“You okay?” Jaden asked with crossed arms, Wemmbu looking up at him with a nod, “You didn’t have to do that.” Wemmbu shrugged his shoulders, leaning back onto his bed.
“Well, I did anyways. Just give me a thank you, and we can both go on our merry way.” Jaden shook his head with a sigh, but still listened, knowing that Wemmbu has only brushing him away to sleep.
“Thanks, dude.”
“No problem.”
