“Johnny, get off your phone,” Sue reprimanded. “It's rude.”
He rolled his eyes at her and put it away. The food in front of him had gone cold but he had fire powers so…
“What's got ya so happy Torchie?” Ben asked, raising a rocky eyebrow at him.
“Nothing,” he shrugged, shoveling his now warm food into his mouth. “Can't I just be in a good mood?”
“You? No,” Ben answered.
“Rude, but if you must know,” Johnny paused for dramatic effect. “I have a date.”
“That's great Johnny,” Sue smiled.
“You have a new date like every week. Why is this so special?”
“I actually really like this guy,” Johnny mumbled.
“Who is it?” Sue asked. “Not Spider-Man, right? I feel like you wouldn't have shut up if it were him.”
“No, it's not Spidey,” Johnny sighed. “I don't even like him like that. We're just friends.”
“If you're sure.” Sue was smiling like she knew something he didn't. Which didn't make any sense. He didn't like Spider-Man. Spidey was his best friend. And he liked Peter.
“I am sure. I'm dating Peter. Peter Parker.”
“Peter Parker? As in Spidey's photographer?” Ben laughed. “Wow, you got it bad kid.”
“Are you sure that's a good idea Johnny?” Sue looked concerned. “It's not good to lead him on if you still like Spider-Man.”
“For the last time, I don't like Spider-Man!” Johnny exclaimed, exasperated. “He and I are friends. That's all.”
Johnny stormed out of the room (haha, stormed. Get it?).
“That's what they all say,” he heard Ben mutter.
Ugh. It was so annoying. Why couldn't they just understand? He may have had the tiniest of crushes on Spidey when they were teens, but that had long since blown over. He liked Peter. He really liked Peter. Not Spider-Man.
Johnny peered out the window and groaned. Speak of the devil…
Spidey had strung up a bunch of webs spelling out Usual place? And he wondered why everyone in New York hated him.
“Sup Spidey?” Johnny greeted as he landed on the Statue of Liberty’s crown.
“The sky,” Spidey responded.
Johnny slumped down next to the spandex clad vigilante. “Did you need to talk about something?”
Spidey tensed. His fingers drummed against his legs and his masked lenses stared down at his lap.
“Well…” Johnny drawled, trying to distract the nervous man. “I got a date.”
Spidey's head snapped to him, his blank white eyes wide. “Really? Who'd wanna go out with you?” His head cocked to the side, like he was genuinely confused that someone would like Johnny.
“I'll have you know that I was ranked 3rd in the Hero Hotness List,” Johnny retorted.
“And who was ranked 2nd?” Spidey raised an eyebrow. Well, Johnny thinks he did.
“The list is totally bogus!” He exclaimed. “I mean, no one's ever seen your face! You're probably ugly as hell under there with, like, eight eyes or something.”
“Oh wow, you caught me. That's why my mask lenses are so big. So all my eyes can see through,” Spidey grinned.
“Really?”
“No, you dumbass,” he rolled his eyes (again, how could he tell? Stupid expressive mask.) “I do have fangs though…”
“Do you really? Or are you just lying again?” Johnny asked warily.
“Guess you'll have to wait and find out,” the arachnid shrugged.
“I'm not gonna wake up and find you sucking the blood from my neck, am I?”
“Who knows…”
“Back to the list, because I think it's very important, but seriously? How are you higher than me? I literally have fire powers.” He lit a flame in his hand to prove his point.
“I don't know,” Spidey smirked. “Toasters are still hotter.”
Johnny felt a weird sense of déjà vu. It was probably nothing. He hadn't gotten much sleep the night before due to some random villain of the week. He was just tired. Yeah. There was nothing connecting Peter and Spidey. Other than the photographer thing.
“Who's your date by the way?” Spidey suddenly asked.
“Funny story,” Johnny rubbed his neck. “It's actually your photographer.”
“My photographer? You mean Parker?” Johnny nodded. “Him? Really? I thought you had better standards than that Flamebrain.”
“Parker’s cute, okay? In a weird sorta nerdy way.” Johnny defended. “And as if you're one to talk. With your eight eyes and fangs.”
“For the hundredth time, I don't have eight eyes!” Spidey sounded exasperated. “Only fangs!”
“Yeah right. Prove it,” he challenged.
“Okay.”
Wait- what?
Before Johnny could react, Spidey's hand was already tugging up his mask, revealing tanned, freckled skin and- No.
No fucking way.
Cool mossy green eyes encircled in a golden amber, stared back at him. Soft mahogany hair, curled around his face, frizzy from being in a mask. Peter. It was Peter.
The man who teased him and could keep up with his banter. The man who always put up with his annoying habits. The man who didn't once complain about Johnny just showing up. The man who he was probably in love with.
And Spider-Man. His best friend who he traded quips and jokes with. His best friend who made fun of him to no end. His best friend who despite all he said, cared about Johnny. His best friend who had saved his life, over and over.
They were the same.
“Surprise?” Spidey- Peter winced.
“It's you.”
“Uh, yeah, it's me,” Peter smiled weakly. “And I, uh, completely understand if like this changes things and you don't like me anymore. Like, we can just stay friends if that’s what you want. Or we could not be friends and just be coworkers that occasionally team up to fight bad guys. Or we could like not do that and like never talk. Not that I want that! Because you are quite literally my only friend and I would really hate to lose you. But if that's what you want, I will respect that. And why am I still talking? I'm probably gonna keep going until you shut me up. Please say something Jo-”
Johnny cut Peter off as he pulled him in. Their lips crashed together. Peter froze for a split second before he was kissing him back. Johnny fingers gripped tightly against Peter's curls and Peter's hand slipped around his waist.
Unlike their first kiss, this was filled with heat and a slight desperation. Peter nipped at Johnny's lips and- huh. He really did have fangs.
“Peter,” Johnny whispered, his voice wavering and wrecked.
Peter hummed against his mouth, the feeling sending a shiver up his spine. His lips parted and Peter took the invitation.
His tongue slipped inside Johnny's mouth. A low sound escaped his throat, somewhere between a gasp and a moan. He leaned further into Peter, trying to get as much of him as possible.
When they broke apart, both of them were gasping for air. Hazel eyes stared into blue eyes. A grin spread across Peter's face.
Idly, Johnny wondered how he had never noticed before. The way Peter's fangs glinted in the light as the sun broke the horizon, sharp but not too long.
“You have fangs,” Johnny breathed.
“Really? Wow, I never noticed,” Peter commented sarcastically, rolling his eyes.
“Does this mean you're going to start sucking my neck or something?”
“I can if you want me to.” Peter smirked, eyeing Johnny's collar.
“Please.”
