Something worth fighting for

Summary:

Cam meets the coven, then he and Scott take a trip to town.

In the process, an old 'friend' notices Cam and Scott messes with his favourite plaything.

Notes:

A few of you asked for a part two, so here you go. Might make it a trilogy to give it a proper ending, but there are a few other things I'd like to work on first.

And thank you for all the love!! I haven't really responded to comments. But I appreciate every single one.

Work Text:

It was time for Cam to meet the fledglings after Scott had kept Cam hidden for a few days. Though he could tell that Owen had began to grow suspicious even Shelby and Pyro had commented on his happier appearance. So after a while of thinking, and Cam not wanting to be kept in the shadows anymore he decided they deserved to know. Hiding Cam in their storage room he gathered the core 4 at the table. Where Owen was the first to speak.

"Are you finally going to tell us why we've been laying low these past few days? We're only allowing the humans to gain strength."
"I'll get to that yes." Was Scott's short reply.

In those few days of peace, Scott has turned the covens focus to animal food- and while he's very aware that Pyro has been sneaking away to the town for good knows whatever reason, he also knows that Pyro hasn't caused the humans any harm nor decided to turn any of them. He also knows that Pyro isn't leaking any information. If that was the case, then the humans would have charged back into the castle. Knowing they were not preparing for a fight would be sure to encourage someone like Martyn to charge in recklessly. Who knows, maybe even Avid would have grown a spine and taken Scott on.

Perhaps he will have to focus on his fledglings a bit closer. He can't let anything slip while he wasn't planning on losing before the stakes had been raised tenfold with Cam in the picture.

Sweet, wonderful Cam, hiding away to meet Scott's new family.

No doubt with an excitable grin on his face as he struggles to sit still.

"Now, as you may know. The humans want me- want us- dead. They see us as a threat even though we are simply doing out best to survive. They see themselves as innocent yet tend to be the first to attack. Charging into our home without any consideration that human or monster, they are bound to be chased out."

"But sire-" Pyro began. Scott's sharp look causing him to shut up.

"For the first time since waking up, I want to avoid an attack. I want to resolve this without risking any of our lives."

"Why the sudden switch?" Shelby asks, though he can hear the delight in her voice.

"Now I have something that connects me to humanity. Even though he hasn't been one almost as long as I have."

With that, his lover steps out of the storage room. Grin on his face as he's finally able to meet everyone. Shelby looks curious, Owen confused and slightly... Distant? Scott has a feeling that Owen already knows how he and Cam see each other and that seems to affect him for a reason Scott is yet to know. As for Pyro, well, Scott doesn't exactly like the look on his face.

"Fledglings. I would like you to meet Cam, my long lost lover."

"How on earth did he find this place?" Owen asks, bewildered.

"I don't exactly know." Scott admits. "He arrived a few days ago, but I've been keeping him hidden while he rests from his travels."

Just as Scott had guessed. Shelby seems to take a liking to him. "If he's been alive just as long as you but hasn't been asleep, what's he been up to all this time?"

Cam's eyes sparkle slightly, he'd been waiting a while for this question. Scott can already tell. "I'm a professor actually, focusing in the medical field."

Shelby lets out a gasp, moving to chat with him more. And from his seat, he hears Owen let out an impressed huff. "It may be good to have someone with medical knowledge on our side I suppose."

Scott grins, wondering how the town would react to this information.

Abolish let out a heavy sigh as he left the town. He was tired of doing his best to protect it, protect them, when it wasn't one of his jobs to do so. He came to this town for two reasons and thanks to the threat of the vampires- who all but one seemed to not leave the castle recently- he was prevented from doing either of them. While he would love to spend his time searching tomes for.. Well, the reason he was here. He first had someone he needed to meet. As he approached the meeting spot he and Pyro had agreed on he froze up, one voice he heard was Scott's, the other wasn't one he recognised. Not on the vampires side, or the humans. Hiding behind a tree to get a closer look, he saw two men.

Scott, now in his third stage, and Cam in his second.

Abolish was familiar with Cam though he didn't know much about his backstory. When the people he worked for caught wind of a vampire professor they had asked Abolish to keep an eye on him. Cam hadn't seemed like a threat at all, if anything he seemed to be a hollow shell of a past self. Like there was something he was missing, they had assumed he'd been alive for a very long time and perhaps his sour mood was because of the amount of loss that would come with living an immortal life.

Here, in Oakhurst, was not where Abolish expected to find out the answer to that question.

The two vampires had their hands intertwined. Cam's grip carefree, joyous, while Scott's seemed to be tighter- possessive. Scott must fear losing Cam more than anything else. And while Abolish doesn't want to kill a good vampire. He isn't sure if Cam will remain innocent if they attempted to take out Scott, would Cam throw his morals aside to protect the person he loves?

From what he heard of their conversation, Scott was going to show Cam the town. The two vampires were going to go invisible so they could look around without any of the humans attempting to jump them. Cam's existence in Scott's life seemed to be the sires only weakness, the thing that caused Scott to play safe. With his lover around- Abolish was unsure if they were married in the past but it is obvious they are far far more than simply friends- perhaps the fight would be swayed in favour of the town.

Behind him a different voice spoke. "I see you've met Sire's object of affection."

Ah. So there's Pyro.

"Yes. When did he arrive?"

"He's been here almost a week now, though us fledglings had been kept in the dark for half of his time here."

As of right now, Scott and Cam going to town seemed to be no threat to anyone there. And Abolish wasn't sure he would be willing to jump in and protect everyone he had enough time to chat with Pyro. After all, the vampire seemed very fond of him. While Abolish hadn't exactly meant to be, he'd ended up as Pyro's safe space. Somewhere he could hide from Scott when the sire attempted to bring out the worst in Pyro. Who, in actuality, seemed more like a wet cat.

Abolish was unsure how this would all play out but if Pyro lived to escape Okahurst Abolish had a feeling he may end up with a new roommate, or perhaps something more.

Something Cam had not considered, and from the looks of it, neither had Scott was the fact that he could spend less time invisible. Avid stared at the unfamiliar vampire who had suddenly appeared in front of him, before letting out a shriek. Calling out for the townsfolk. Martyn, Ren and Sausage were god knows where doing god knows what. Apo was busy customising the inside of the tower... He hadn't seen Drift, Pearl or Cleo in a while either... And Shelby.... Shelby..

She hadn't come home, she was still on the vampires side.

As Avid tried to back away from Cam, trembling as he reached for his sword. An invisible claw took tight hold of his neck, digging into his bandages as he struggled to escape. As he expected- and somewhat feared, Scott spoke into his ear. A horrible hushed tone that made his legs want to give out. "You even lay a finger on him and I'll make sure you never see the sunrise again."

Scott was having none of it. If Avid tried anything.. Well, Scott was glad he'd wanted Avid dead for a while. He'd have no remorse tearing his body apart and leaving it for everyone to see.

Though- if he did that... He'd risk them coming after Cam.

As the grip loosens Avid pulls himself free. Collapsing on the ground with his sword landing at Cam's feet. The vampire picks up the weapon letting out a sharp hiss as he touches the blade. Scott becomes visible frown on his face. "Why would you willingly touch the silver??"

"I don't know! It looked sharp"

"That's why you shouldn't touch it!"

A weaker third voice speaks up. "What are you even doing here? Who's he??"

Scott turns to Avid. "You might want to stay seated for this one. Cam was once a servant of mine because of this he asked me to turn him."

The weaker vampire grins, throwing Avid his sword before leaning on Scott's shoulder making himself comfortable Scott rolls his eyes but continues to answer Avid's question.

"Since he's been alive just as long as I have he wanted to see how much the town had changed, my love was curious to see what you'd done with the place."

Avid felt like he was going to faint then and there. Scott's lover.. How could anyone love a monster like that?? Better yet, Cam loved the monster so much that he willingly became one.

"Okay! So you've looked around!! Get out of here before I.. Before the others come and kill you!"

Scott let out a laugh, a laugh that made Avid wish he was better at fighting. If only he was more like Elle...

If only...

"I'd like to see them try. Anyone who dares to lay a hand on Cam will lead to the town being wiped out. I'll make sure of it."

"My love" Cam's voice is gentle, a drastic contrast to his boyfriends. Avid watches as his voice alone causes Scott's whole appearance to change. His gaze becomes softer, body relaxing as his attention is drawn to the creature beside him. Even his fangs and claws look a bit less scary when Scott's focus is on Cam instead of him. "Doesn't this contrast what you told the coven?"

The sire lets out a deep breath. "You're right, sorry. Avid seems to bring out the worst in me."

Avid stutters before simply settling on "Hey!"

Scott giggles and Cam beams. Seeing those two in love- Avid feels... Well he isn't sure how he feels, his view on vampires is being tested for sure. He's beginning to worry that everything he's been pushing might not be true.

For now, while he's outnumbered he needs to focus on them like they're still a threat. He's quick to get back on his feet, face flush as he realises he did that whole conversation while still on the floor. He's quick to grab his discarded sword too. It's a miracle Scott hadn't tried to kill him yet.

"What did you tell the others?? What are you planning?"

"As of right now, I'm keeping my family fed. It's my apology for keeping them from attacking you. Though Owen seems to be the only one itching for a fight right now."

"Owen?? Not even Pyro??"

"I'm not sure what Pyro is up to. I'm aware he's sneaking out to meet Abolish, yet nothings come from that yet."

Abolish meeting with Pyro..? But why- Abolish was on the town's side. Though none of them really know what to make of him.

"What Scott wants" Cam begins. "Is us to have a happy ending, you see we've been kept apart for a very long time and we just want a chance to live."

"You want peace?? After what you did to Shelby- what you did to the town?? You want us to let you go??"

"In an ideal world yes, I may have to speak to all of you together to make that happen though."

Well, whatever anyone else decided on. Avid sure as hell wasn't going to vote to side with them. He could only hope that the rest of the town would agree too. Before Avid could vocalise his thoughts, Scott gave Cam's hand a gentle little squeeze, perhaps a signal they'd agreed on before, and the two vampires lunged over the wall before running off towards the forest. With a heavy sigh Avid returns to his house.

Though truly all he wanted was to go home.

Just outside of town, and due to Cam complaining about not wanting to walk all the way back to the castle, the two agreed to bat instead. It had been a while since they had seen each others bat form, and Cam had to take a moment before they set off to give Scott little nuzzles, squeaking about how adorable the other was. Ecstatic when Scott gave him nuzzles in return before taking off. Cam flew behind him spotting two little dots saying goodbye to each other before one walks in the direction of the castle, the other in direction of a tome. He'd have to point that out to Scott later if he hadn't noticed. Though knowing his perfect wife, he probably had. Landing at the castle bridge Scott's human feet touch the ground only for Cam's to join a second later.

Cam once more finds his hand intertwined with Scott's, as they should be. Always together.

"We'll find a way out soon." Scott promises. Knowing Cam will have to return to his life before this soon enough. He couldn't wait to get back to teaching, more motivated than ever to do a good job. To live his life to the fullest. Cam fully planned of using his connection to Abolish to get them out. Scott was putting way to much pressure on himself trying to get him out of this mess, when really Cam could be doing a lot to help him relax.

Cam would make sure Scott's promise was kept.

If his plan with Abolish failed, he had no problem being the first to attack.

He would bring Scott into his life in the big city.

Peacefully or by force.
