Oh God, Dean’s so nervous! He paces around his bedroom, raking his brain around on what to wear for the date he asked Castiel out on yesterday. The two slept together for the first time just weeks ago - it was the best night Dean’s had in awhile - and now he wants to take the next step. He already said how he feels about Cas, he might as well take him out.
But as the time for the date approached, the hunter panicked. Maybe he’ll just wear what he always wears - a badass jacket with a flannel underneath with a neutral colored t-shirt, jeans, and his trusty boots. Maybe he should do something with his hair?
Oh well, fuck it.
Dean throws his closet open and scans the hanging clothing items. He eventually settles on the dark blue jacket that almost looked like Cas’s eyes. He looks at the flannels he has, and decides on a black and gray one. He plucks the jacket and flannel from its hangers and shrugs both on over his black t-shirt, sighing as he shuts the closet doors and walks up to his mirror above the sink.
He stands in front of it, looking over his reflection. He looks good and he hopes Cas will think the same. Dean does a couple poses in the mirror, and then he points finger guns at his reflection. He quickly picks up his boots, puts them on, and laces them up and exits his room.
Dean emerges from the hallway when he spots Sam heading back towards the library. “Hey, have you seen Cas?” The older Winchester implored the younger one. Sam stops in his tracks, nodding at his brother. “Yeah, he’s almost done getting ready,” He answers, looking Dean up and down. “You look good!” Sam adds, a small smirk forming. Dean stands taller, puffing out his chest with pride. “Thank you!” He chirps with a sly smile. Sam chuckles, “Have fun, Dean,” He then returns to the library as Cas finally appears. Dean stops dead in his tracks with a slack jaw and heating cheeks.
Cas stands there wearing what is obviously Sam’s clothes, but he looks amazing. He wore a nice gray button-up which is covered by a dark green jacket that obviously matched Dean’s eyes. He even wore jeans with decent looking boots. Despite him wearing Sam’s clothes, Dean likes what he sees.
Castiel too stares at Dean. He wore a dark blue jacket that matched Cas’s eyes, a black and gray flannel with a black t-shirt beneath it. Of course, he wore his usual jeans and boots. Even if it is always along the lines of what Dean always wears, it doesn’t fail to take Cas’s breath away.
Dean clears his throat, “You look…Great. Green’s a good color on you.” The hunter doesn’t bother to hide his approval. They both wore jackets that were similar colors to the other’s eyes, and it was perfect - even if it was an accident. “Thank you, Dean. Blue is a lovely color on you.” The angel responds as he approaches his hunter. The two stand and stare at each other for a bit before Dean gestures to the garage. “Shall we?” suggested Dean with his usual dashing smile. Cas nods, “We shall,” The two then went together towards the garage to get into the Impala. When they arrive, Dean heads to the Impala with keys in hand and holds the passenger door open for Cas, which he nods in return and hops into the passenger seat. Dean goes around the front of the Impala and then gets in the driver’s seat. He shoves the key into the ignition and the Impala roars to life, and then he pulls out of the garage.
It was a twenty minute drive to what appears to be a 1950s inspired diner. Cas came to realize that Sam was right. This was fine by him, he knows how much Dean loves diners. Dean parks and removes the key from the ignition, and then he walks around the front of the Impala. He opens Cas’s door, which prompts the angel to exit and have Dean shut the door behind him.
The men walk together inside to see the diner bustling with all kinds of patrons and wait staff. “It’s full,” Cas comments as he looks around. “This place is popular and has good food. It’s bound to be full.” replied Dean matter-of-factly. After a few moments, a waitress - her name tag read Willow - takes Dean and Cas to a booth. “What can I get you both to start with?” Willow asks, a pen and notepad in hand. Dean smiles, “Can I get a coke with a bacon cheeseburger?” He asks, watching as Willow jots down his order.
Once she’s done that, she turns her attention to Castiel. “And for you?” asked Willow, smiling at him sweetly. Cas hums, looking at Dean. Dean mouths, “Just order something.” Cas looks down at the menu, looking over his options. There’s quite a lot to choose from.
Even so, Cas doesn’t need to eat anyway. However, he can choose something but only taste molecules. Quite the dilemma.
His adoration for Dean outweighs any reason, so he sets his menu down and looks up at Willow. “I would like a chocolate milkshake and a club sandwich please,” Cas finally says, and she quickly jots it down and takes their menus. “I’ll be back with your order!” Willow chirps, disappearing with their menus.
Dean then looks over at Cas. “A milkshake and a sandwich?” He questions with a playful smirk. Cas shrugs, “You told me to order something,” Dean huffs a small chuckle. “I know, I just didn’t think you’d order something like that, I guess,” Dean replies, resting his elbows on the table. A comfortable silence hangs between them as Dean watches Cas looking around the diner. “I like this diner. It’s well decorated.” stated Cas. Dean nods in agreement with a chuckle.
“Oh, good! I wasn’t sure if you’d like it here or not.” said Dean as Willow returns with Dean’s drink and Cas’s milkshake. She sets down the beverages and walks away. “Why wouldn’t I?” Cas asks as he grabs a straw and removes the wrapper from it. Dean shrugs, also grabbing a straw and unwrapping it. “Dunno,” He responds as he puts his straw in his drink.
Dean sips from his coke as he watches Cas put the straw in his milkshake. Cas then wraps his lips around the straw and sucks up the chocolate milkshake. Cas makes a discomforted expression. “It just taste like molecules,” He murmurs, and Dean can’t keep his heart from melting. “You don’t have to keep drinking it if you don’t want to, Cas,” Dean suggests, taking a quick sip from his coke.
Cas shakes his head, “No, I’ll drink it. You were kind enough to bring me here.” The comment makes Dean’s heart leap happily.
The men talked and ate for two hours before Dean paid and then they left in the Impala and drove around. Eventually, Dean found an amazing hilltop that overlooked a forest. He pulled up to it and put the Impala in park, and both men exited the vehicle and came to sit on the hood to watch the sunset.
Castiel wrapped Dean into his arms and whispered in his ear, “Thank you, Dean. I had a good time.” The hairs on Dean’s neck rise as Cas whispers, the chill unexpected but definitely welcome. Dean is so bewildered.
What’s this new desire called?
Dean didn’t know much at all about love. But, he thinks he’s learning.
Dean turns in Cas’s arms to face him. “I’m glad. I wanted your first date to be memorable.” He answers, wrapping his arms around Cas’s middle. Cas has bewitched Dean, ever since the first time they kissed. The world froze when he kissed him goodnight that faithful night they slept together.
Even in this moment, every second he is with him, he tries to think straight but he falls so badly like he were falling apart. It’s like Cas cast a spell on his heart and bewitched him.
Just like before, Dean seals another kiss onto Cas’s lips. They then pulled away and looked to the sunset. With a sigh, Dean starts to speak. “Hey Cas?” He asks, now looking over at his lover. Cas looks back at him, nodding for him to continue. “You sure you want this? Want me?” Dean whispers. Cas sits up taller, caught off guard by the question. “Of course I do, Dean. I wouldn’t have had sex with you and gone on a date if I didn’t think that.” He answers flatly.
Dean huffs with a smile. He supposes he agrees with the sentiment, even if it was put bluntly and little tact. Dean sits and stares at Cas, still feeling like he’s dreaming. He still can’t believe he has Cas as his lover of all things. Wait, were they lovers?
The thought makes Dean look back at Cas. “What are we?” He suddenly asks. Cas looks back at Dean from the beautiful sunset. “We’re whatever you want us to be, Dean,” He answers. Dean nods, then looks back at the sunset with Cas. “Then, be my lover,” muttered Dean shyly. He feels his cheeks heat up as he sees Cas look back at him from the corner of his eye. “We’re lovers,” Cas agrees dreamily. Dean turns back to Cas, and then captures his lips in a kiss.
The newfound couple have bewitched each other, and they don’t plan on changing that anytime soon.
