   Summary

   Arthur promised himself he wouldn't let the blood he and Deacon had shared between themselves become anything. It had been a necessity, a heat of the moment decision, nothing more. But here he was, laying on an actual bed (upon Deacon's insistence) with Deacon's arm under his head and the cowboy tangling legs with him.

   Arthur doesn't know how to love people, he's terrified. The last people he'd loved were children, smaller than the two he has now. Anya had led to ruin. It all feels like a balancing act, just being around this new family. He's afraid he'll disappoint them and lose everything again.

   From where his ear was pressed against the inside of Deacon's elbow, he heard no heartbeat, felt no heat, but the skin was soft and stuck to his cheek when he tried to turn his head to see the other better.
