Life is full of surprises.
Sometimes, you’re on top of the world – getting everything you’ve ever wanted – and the next moment it comes crashing down on you.
James never believed that the world would or could crush him when he’d been twenty-one and practically invincible until it did.
And then… the world surprised him again.
He had never quite imagined that he would end up here when he finished Hogwarts – dating his best friend, hiding in the muggle world and raising his son, happier than he’s ever been.
He’d thought that he’d marry Lily, win the war and end up happily ever after with enough kids to fill a quidditch team.
But that’s not what happened.
He won’t say getting attacked and losing Lily was a good thing, but his life with Sirius and Harry five years post Voldemort’s attack is actually one of the best things to happen to him.
He had never imagined that living the muggle way and away from the life that he’d grown up with would ever make him happy, but it’s the best thing for him, for them. He gets to raise his son away from stupid people that believe that he is some sort of hero because of Voldemort vanishing.
He never imagined being the stay-at-home parent, either, but Sirius is happy with his decision to go to muggle university and James is happy taking care of their son.
It does mean that he doesn’t get to spend as much time with Sirius as he likes, though.
Sirius’ decision to go back to school is part of why James is sure that his favorite day of the week is Sunday.
He loves lazy Sunday afternoons where Harry plays with Snuffles (their new puppy that looks remarkedly like Padfoot) as they watch movies on the couch in the sitting room with Sirius’ head in James’ lap and James running his hands through Sirius’ hair.
It’s the quiet comfort of love that makes them all feel happy and content.
It’s easy and lazy and lovely and everything in between. The perfect way to unwind from the week before and mentally prepare for the week ahead.
He smiles down at him.
“I like that smile,” Sirius offers, smiling up at him.
James hums. “I’m happy – Sundays are my favorite day of the week.”
“Is that because it’s the only day that I’m all yours?” Sirius questions. “I know that I’ve been busy of late.”
“I want you to be happy, Si,” James states. “Being busy makes you, happy, no?”
“It does, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t wish for more lazy Sundays.”
James smiles. “I would do anything for more lazy Sundays, but perhaps, there’s a break coming up. We could plan something with Harry?”
“A trip somewhere?”
James nods. “A holiday would be nice.”
“Then, a holiday it is.”
“Good.”
