Sexual assault. He rolls it around in his head. It’s ridiculous.
It’s a messed up, life ruining accusation; he’d never do something like that to any girl. The idea is positively mental, makes him ill. His parents raised him well, taught him the importance of consent- No means no, respect her boundaries, ask first, all of it. James Potter would never take advantage of someone sexually. But that’s not what he’s been charged with, not exactly.
The lake… it doesn’t count. It was a stupid prank, it’s what the Marauders are known for, their source of infamy, it didn’t mean anything beyond that. It’s not like he’d known Snivellus hadn’t been wearing any trousers when he cast Levicorpus, it just happened that way, and he’d only gone further because he’d called Evans that awful word.
