Responsibility (Caring for Others)

Summary:

Meagon was now a mother figure to 3 stupid fools
Those stupid fools being:
Grayleigh - A cheer girl who is way too trusting
Mike - A chaotic idiot with daddy issues
And Rotation - A stupid orphan that struggles to trust others
And she was stuck taking care of them, and their stupid decisions.

THIS IS PART OF MY COLLEGE AU!! Trust when I say it’s a lot less depressing than the og DaD (I gen want to cry like every session).

Notes:

Chat I started this while watching session 6 and I almost cried in my kitchen cause I was watching Mike’s pov (then switched to rotation…..)😭😭
I haven’t actually watched Meagan’s pov, but in Micro’s and Rotation’s, she was the perfect candidate for a found family mother. Idk.

In this au specifically, every character except like 4 are students at the college btw.
Please note that I haven’t been to college, and even though I did a bit of research, some things may be inaccurate! Just assume it to be a part of the college and it’s meant to be like that. Every team is in a dorm together, so genderless dorms i guess!

Also sorry it’s been a bit since I’ve uploaded a fic, my motivation it miserable, and you can kinda see that in Graylie’s section, because it’s the last one I wrote…

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Meagon was pretty sure that her 3 dorm mates were either mentally ill idiots, or just idiots. It was hard to tell. Mainly because the 3 of them clearly had their own issues.

First there was Mike Roghost. He was the son of the university’s president, and she assumed that that was how he got in. He clearly lacked confidence, but he pretended that he had some sort of ego. He never pretended in the dorms because by then he was too tired to. Meagon could see the daddy issues radiating off of him.

Then there was Grayleigh, or just Gray. She was super nice, and probably the most innocent that a university student could be. She was in the same high school as Mike was, and she got in because her parents paid for it. They had a lot of money, as far as Maegon could tell. Gray was also very naive, she trusted almost everyone. Meagon did know that Gray was a total idiot.

Last but not least, Rotation, but they all just called him orphan boy. Sometimes Meagon noticed him look to the side, like he was staring at someone else, or maybe he would just talk to himself. It was odd, but she, and the others, just ignored it. He was the least trusting out of all 4 of them, and would hate whenever Gray and Mike would gossip. She saw certain moments in which he cared though.

She would just walk around the dorm when she was bored. She might see Mike on his phone, she thought he needed a different color than purple for his case, but who was she to decide. She might see Gray practicing a cheer, she was really good at whatever Meagon saw her do. Maybe she would see Rotation talking to air again.

Because she had so little trust in her dorm mates, she started doing certain tasks, like the dishes or laundry. She had gotten Rotation, the only other trust worthy one in the dorm, to do the boy’s laundry for her. That was nice. Often times she saw Mike and Gray gossiping when she was making herself dinner, and they would later make themselves dinner and eat with her. In the end, somehow, she became the main caretaker of the dorm. In more ways than one.

Fun.

Mike was doing school work. There were a couple of projects he had to do, and to say the least, he was a little bit stressed.

He decided to go eat dinner to cool off. He was actually the first to sit down to eat, unlike usually, when Meagon would be there as he sat down. She later came to the table, and there was an awkward silence between the two. Maybe Meagon was just in her own thoughts, and didn’t care, but Mike was definitely overthinking, as always.

Every time he looked in her direction, he looked back down to the food on his plate, which he had almost finished eating. He was getting distracted, his food becoming less important than the thought overwhelming him. His mind raced from topic to topic, his projects, the awkwardness, somehow even thoughts of his own father squirmed their way in there.

He had been able to focus long enough to finish his food, but even after he was done eating, he just sat and stared into blank space. At some point Meagon noticed that something was wrong.

“You good football boy?” She questioned, looking up from her own, almost finished, food. The nickname was new to Mike, she hadn’t called him that before, but he doubted it would stick. He didn’t mind it though, it was refreshing, and some times, if he was extra overwhelmed, he would be able to tell that it was her speaking to him.

“I - Um.. Just a bit… I dunno.” Damn him and his stupid inability to explain his emotions. Meagon’s gaze made him uneasy, and his stomach turned.

“Try to just focus on me for a sec” She told him, seemingly calm. Meagon wasn’t the best  at comforting others, or recognizing what exactly was wrong with them, but she could try. That’s all that counts in the end, trying to help.

Mike looked up, his breathing slightly getting faster, but it was still at a moderate pace. Meagon got up and moved to the seat next to him, not directly touching him.

“Breath.” She ordered softly, “I’ll be able to help if you can explain what’s wrong, if not then we can chill for a bit, OK?” She was quiet, trying not to alarm him.

Mike looked to Meagon and focused on her face. She had grey-whiteish hair, and in some ways that made her look like an old woman. Rotation had made a joke about that on the first day they were all moved in, and it had made Mike laugh slightly, even if it was dumb. He never said it again though, probably because of Meagon’s not-so-enthusiastic response.

His brain started to calm down as he focused on her face, and the previous thoughts that were bombarding him had left his mind. He gave a small smile to Meagon.

“Are OK with telling me what’s up?” She asked, her voice was so soft, it calmed Mike more.

He nodded, “Yeah. I just guess I’m stressed. A lot of projects for classes.” He was doing a bit better now, thankfully.

“Hey,” she said, “Maybe you can take a small break.” She gave him a smile, and he smiled in return.

“I.. Ok.” He whispered, he didn’t have any pride to swallow in this scenario, but he still felt like he was swallowing something similar.

She got up and said to him, “Just remember that your mental health is more important than schoolwork!” He nodded as she started to head to her room, even though her back was turned.

He decided that when he went back to his room, he would flop on his bed, and he would continue his projects in 2 hours or so. He was, in a way, proud to give himself a break. He was especially proud that Meagon was his friend.

Because no matter how dumb it sounded to him, she was always there to remind him that it’s ok to step away for bit, to take a break.

To take a break.

Grayleigh was just tired. She hated when people used her, somehow it just kept happening. The most recent case of this was a girl she thought could be her friend.

Apparently not.

The girl was her friend. Was. She had been nice to Grayleigh for a while, clearly a front that she hadn’t noticed. Her friend was spending less time with her, so she decided to ask her about it.

The girl decided to tell her that she hated Grayleigh, right after spreading rumors about how she was a thief, and that Grayleigh was being rude to her friends behind their backs.

She was thankful that her friends believed it wasn’t true, but everyone else stared at her like she was equivalent to a monster. At least, that’s what it felt like. She saw a lot of stares, people whispering to each other, and so she couldn’t help but think it was about her.

She had went to straight to the couch in the small living room area, and she lied down on it face first. The first one to walk in on her sulking was Meagon.

At first she could hear her step slightly away, then she sighed and walked over to sit by Grayleigh’s feet. Grayleigh was about to doze off, ignoring the other’s presence, but hearing Meagon’s breathing made it hard to concentrate on taking a nap.

Her eyes were starting to water as she sat up. She looked away from Meagon, and instead started to stare intensely at the wall.

Meagon was the first to speak, “Do you want to talk, I heard about what was being said. Nasty rumors.”

Grayleigh nodded, and she could tell that even though she was turned away from her, Meagon noticed it.

“Everyone knows they’re not true, even the person who told me about ‘em was skeptical.” She was nervous, but still somewhat calm. Grayleigh knew that Meagon was at least slightly angry that someone did this to her though. It gave comfort that someone would be angry for her.

She started to defend herself in a way, trying to tell Meagon it was that bad, ”But I felt everyone’s gaze. I-“

“Stop. I asked like 20 people, all of them either didn’t know about the rumors, or they didn’t believe them.” She was trying to make Gray happier by speaking lightly and joyfully herself.

It worked, shockingly, Grayleigh started to smile. Tears had started falling down her face long beforehand, but it was apparent that they were no longer of sadness.

Grayleigh leaped to Meagon, hugging her. Meagan shifted in surprise, but accepted the hug and returned it. She patted the back of Gray’s head, a smile on her face. And she could tell one was on Gray’s as well.

When they pulled away, both of them were still smiling. Meagan liked Grayleigh for her kindness, and even if she would get used for it, Meagon would still like her for it. Maybe in the future, she would be able to prevent it, for Gray’s sake.

”It’ll be okay, I’ll start informing everyone who heard about it and we’ll be good!” Meagon exclaimed merrily, for some reason, she just wanted to joke all day with Grayleigh. It felt right, and it must be because of her friend’s good nature.

”You’re right, err, you wanna watch a show or something?” She was happy now, and it was obvious her mind was elsewhere, sort of like how the problem was now no longer a concern.

And Grayleigh was sure that, even if this problem happened again, Meagon was there for her, to protect her.

Rotation was thinking of her again, and therefore seeing her again. Mike had noticed and tried to talk to him. He said something about, “ sharing your feelings”. What bullshit.

Rotation had grown up only relying on one - now dead - person. And even with her, he didn’t ever have to share his feelings.

And now she’s gone and he’s stuck with hallucinations of her. He didn’t like it but he had to deal with it, so he did. He learnt that the best way to deal with it was to not let anyone know this happened. Mike had only figured out from constant pestering, and Mike is how the rest of his dorm mates knew as well.

Rotation, however, still refused to talk any further about. Really, it was for everyone’s own good, even Rotation’s. If no one knew much about it, then he could deal with it on his own, and dealing with it on his own was the better option.

Of course his roommates drove a wrench into that. Grayleigh was constantly annoying him, alpha-this and omega-that, non stop talking. Mike was annoying him as well, and the two combined were the worst duo he had ever seen.

At some point he closed himself in his room to get away from them both. Of course there was one person he could never get away from. Venus. It was all his fault he was seeing her in the first place, if she had lived then… whatever.

He was scrolling on his phone, Mike had given it to him so they could keep in contact. He didn’t understand the need that rich people had to spend so much money. It was probably even not much of a dent to the Roghost bank account.

He was growing bored, as he slowly lost things to do. He put his phone down and sighed, he was going to have to recognize that she was there.

Here eyes were practically shining, and her stare was intense. Yet somehow, her face was all too disfigured for him to put the pieces in their proper place. He didn’t fully remember what Venus looked like, and picking out all of the tiny, imperfect parts was somewhat putting him in a trance.

KNOCK KNOCK.

He blinked and Venus was gone, he lost focus on her. He looked to the door in annoyance, what were Mike and Grayleigh doing this time?

“What?” There was more attitude in his voice then necessary, but he wouldn’t take it back if he got the chance. He got up and walked towards the door. He was only going to open it once he knew who it was. The only except able person would be…

“Err, hi? Can I come in?” Meagon. The least annoying of his roommates, and probably the only one except for him that actually acted like an adult.

He unlocked the door and opened it, then headed to his bed to sit down on. She slowly entered, as she did so, the room felt as though it was filled with a calm aura, something that Rotation hadn’t felt in years.

“Where the others annoying you?” She asked quietly, he didn’t understand why she was being so careful, like he was made of glass. He wasn’t.

He nodded, too lazy to speak any words, and she continued, ” Are you okay? You’ve been in here for a bit.”

He felt as though he could nod, but it would get him anywhere, so instead he said, “ Just trying to get away from people. Sadly it’s impossible, especially since..” he cut himself off before he mentioned her. Meagon clearly knew what he was about to say though.

“We don’t have to talk about anything, but.. “ She looked down, “I don’t know about Venus, but if she is still your friend, then she would be nice to you. It’s just a hallucination.” How much did Mike tell her? Because this was a lot of information. He hated how easily he opened up to Mike, but he had spent most of his time with the jock. It was bound to happen eventually.

“That is true” His voice was lacking much emotion, and in truth he didn’t know what emotions to put into his tone.

She pat him on the shoulder and turned around, “ Just come to me and ask for help if you need any.”

He was going to nod, but words would help them both understand more, “ Thanks, I will.” She smiled and he did too in return. Maybe people could help. He wasn’t going to immediately open about everything, but maybe he could warm up to them. Maybe they could help him.

Venus was in the back of his mind, telling them that they would turn on him or something.

But he didn’t care. He was starting to have hope, and that’s was all he really needed.

Notes:

Hope you enjoyed! Idk what I want to do with the MAIN fic for this au, because I am in love with too many of these glorbos. Maybe there’ll be multiple fics idk, my struggle with motivation is not helping with my ambition..

One of my favorite things about DaD is that EVERY character is flawed in some way, like how Mike was going to get flux in the machine just for rotation, or how Jawn would have done the same for Woogie. It’s so interesting because some characters realize it, like Flux or Snowbird, but others don’t. Idk, just really interesting how NONE of them are “good” people. I guess it shows how desperate people can get.

ALSO what happened to when the hostel was the group that had the most whimsy and stuff, where has it all gone. I am so sad with session 7, where did the whimsy go, because literally NO ONE is happy rn.. :(

BECAUSR WDYM IM WATCHING SIX POVS AND SOMEHOW ONLY TWO OF THEM ARE STILL ALIVE?? (Saps and Flux better live bro, I also want Flux (spoilers for his POV) to come back to the city, for his FAMILY)
