4C wasn’t feeling the best. He almost forgot when it started.
Probably two days ago. That’s when he got the cough. It was just a small thing, but then the next day he felt groggy and tired. And now, he was throwing up in the toilet, trying not to make a mess of anything else.
Jonathon was standing right beside him, and Spidey was just outside the room, pacing. They were both very obviously worried, as to them, it did come out of nowhere. Jonathon was trying to hide it, but 4C knew he was worried. 4C felt bad for Spidey, with how stressed she looked and everything.
What could he do about it all though?
Finally, 4C felt as though there was nothing more his body could expel. He got up from his kneeling position and started to weakly shift to his bedroom. Jonathon slightly helped him stand and walk, and Spidey followed. He fell into his bed with glee, closing his eyes and smothering his face with a pillow. The other two stood awkwardly, just sort of watching.
Jonathon left the room the second he was sure 4C was fully asleep. Spidey trailed behind him, her steps quiet. He walked into his room, grabbed one random book off of his bookshelf, from a specific shelf full of books he hadn’t started.
Spidey stood by the door, somewhat in shock. She was confused on how he was unfazed, and just went on with his daily life.
“Why are you just doing nothing? 4C is SICK!” She burst out, slightly angry, slightly annoyed, and slightly concerned for her sick friend.
“So? We can’t do much more than what we have done. It’s not life threatening, we have medicine, and he’s resting right now.” He was somewhat annoyed, “Everything is fine for now.”
She grumbled and looked down, refraining from arguing further. She turned away and stomped to her room.
Jonathon watched and sighed. He was worried, but showing that wouldn’t help anything or anyone. So he didn’t. They had medicine, and he planned to go get more when Spidey was asleep, just in case. He was now actually somewhat grateful for her going to bed early, even though it didn’t really matter at all before.
He just knew that showing he cared would cause a lot of issues for him in total. Spidey would be all annoying, and so would 4C. Most of all he would be forced to lose them, like he has everyone else. He has lived long enough to recognize that he will lose everyone, so it’s best to not have an ‘everyone’.
And he had many plans just in case, to avoid having anything to love.

Jonathon grabbed his keys and walked to his car. He was the only one with a car, which meant he usually had to drive them if they needed to go anywhere. He was lucky that the dorm buildings were close to the actual campus so he wouldn’t have to be driving them there too.
He closed the car door behind him and started to drive. He knew where was going, but at the same time, he was planning to just drive endlessly after he got medicine anyways.
He sighed as he parked at the store. He didn’t care. He did not care. He was only getting medicine so that 4C didn’t get him sick. He didn’t have the time to get sick. He knew 4C probably didn’t either.
4C’s major was neurological science, so Jonathon imagined it would be hard. He only had to deal with religious studies, an he was only studying it because he knew it’s what his parents would’ve wanted.
They were his primary example on why not to care for others. He was alone after that, and he knew it was for the better.
Which was why he was only getting this medicine for 4C to get better. NOT because he cared.
He repeated that sentiment up until he got back to the car with the medicine. And then he looked for the loudest music he could play on the radio, to clear his brain. Because he needed to distract himself, from whatever was plaguing his mind.
Not that the sentiment was wrong though. The sentiment was the only correct thing in his life. At least that’s what he always told himself.

Spidey yawned as she turned off her alarm. She knew she would probably have to get ready, to go to one of her lectures, but she needed to check in on 4C first.
So she sped over to his door, and knocked. Her hope was that if he was asleep, he wouldn’t answer and he’d get more rest. And if he did answer, she would get him some flu medicine, and tell him he should rest for the day.
“Wait a sec!” He said and she sighed so loud he could probably hear it through the door. What was he thinking? She knew he wasn’t better, she could still hear his cough. She also knew he knew he wasn’t better.
When he opened the door he was fully dressed, a sniffling mess, that looked like he was going to go outside. And she knew that she would not allow that for her best friend.
“ And where are you going?” She questioned, ready to push him back in the room and find a way to lock him in there and force him to get rest.
He raised a brow as he answered,” School… why do you ask?”
She gasped and gave him the ‘oh I wonder’ face.
“You’re so silly 4C!” She was going to try to stay positive, “ you’re sick! You can’t go out” He sniffled just as soon as she finished, and looked away slightly.
“W-what are you talking about?” He asked, making it even more painfully obvious that even he knew he shouldn’t go out.
“Go back in your room!! And SLEEP!” She smiled, but they both knew that she was being serious. If he didn’t go back in his room and fall onto the bed, she would find a way to make him. She didn’t like being this serious, but 4C getting sick was just the thing she sort of had to be serious about.
He sighed and murmured something to himself, then went and climbed into his bed. She stared at him for a second, did he really think this was convincing her. He was wearing jeans and had a sweatshirt on, the sweatshirt made a bit of sense, but there was no way he planned to sleep in jeans.
“Put on actual pajamas, I’m not stupid.” She laughed slightly and closed his door for him. While he was getting into sleep-wear, she rushed to her room so she could get dressed for the day.
When she was done, she heard Jonathon in the kitchen making himself breakfast. She knocked on the door and he opened it, wearing pajama shorts and a t-shirt. She gave him a thumbs up and closed the door behind him.
She walked over to make herself some food, just toast with butter slathered on it was a good enough breakfast for her. Jonathon was on his phone, probably scrolling something, all she knew is that it was boring. To her Jonathon was kind of a boring person, but she would still be his friend, as being boring wasn’t enough to scare her away.
She must have been staring a bit, because when he looked up to her, he said, “What do you want?” She smiled and looked back to her toast, and he only sighed.
“I know you know we are friends, Jonathon!” She said as she swallowed a bite of her food. She didn’t look up, but she imagined his baffled, embarrassed, and slightly angry face, which made her giggle.
“I am not your friend” He muttered, but she could hear it, albeit he was very quiet. She had gotten used to him just barely speaking, which was good because she was always told that she had good ears.
She teased, “Keep telling yourself that.” He grumbled, grabbed his bowl of cereal, and walked to his room. She laughed as he left. She knew he wasn’t actually going to eat in there, just wait until she left the table.
Which would be soon, as she had finished her toast and had places to be. She knew that she did have one, slightly more serious, thing to tell him though.
She walked by his room, which he left the door open to, for a second she just thought about how to phrase the words.
She settled on what to say, “Since you don’t have anywhere to go today, can you make sure 4C gets himself some sleep?” He sighed dramatically and nodded. He knew he cared, he just had to realize it.
It was funny to her. That he couldn’t realize he cared for people. She wondered how he did it. And how to reverse it.
