Work Text:

Akito bursts into his room, breathing a sigh of relief.

School was agony, even more so than usual, because he stupidly forgot his notebook and his brain decided that the best time to think about their new choreography is during lunch. It stayed at the back of his mind for all of the afternoon classes, moves and formations and transitions looping around and around in his head, making him lose focus. Normally, he'd sacrifice a maths sheet for this in a heartbeat, but he promised Toya to not doodle over his school papers, so he didn't. Now, he's finally at home, and he can get his ideas out without a scolding.

He beelines for the cushion placed in front of his table, where he left the notebook earlier; behind him, Toya chuckles at his eagerness. Toya's a hypocrite, because he carried the book they bought on the way here cradled in his arms like a baby, talking excitedly about the prequel and his theories for the continuation. It didn't make much sense to Akito, but he was more than happy to listen to Toya's rambles.

As he flips to a clean page, he hears Toya settle on the bed. He quickly gathers the pens strewn about the table and gets to work, starting by separating the page in two. He wants to start with formations, and even though this is for their events, he has to include a Virtual Singer or else he'll get banned from crase cafe. That last part was never stated out loud, but Len gave him and Toya the saddest stares whenever they practiced Fragile. Akito's not gonna chance it.

The two of them fall into a comfortable quiet, filled with soft noises of pen scratching on paper and pages rustling against each other. He's not sure how much time passes when he gets the urge to look up at Toya; his expressions are always serene and angelic when he's engrossed in a book like this, and it's always a delight to see. He pauses for a moment to look up; Toya's brows are cutely furrowed in focus, the faintest smile stretching his lips. His long, slender fingers flip the pages with careful excitement, both eager to see what's next and cautious to not damage the book. Akito feels the sudden need to be closer, to touch Toya, but he doesn't wanna disrupt. Instead, he grabs his notebook and a handful of pens and scoots back. This way, he can lean against Toya's leg and still work on the choreography, and Toya can read his book in peace.

Toya doesn't respond, but there's some more shuffling above him; moments later, Toya's fingers are threading through his hair. Akito can't help but melt at the touch; Toya knows exactly how to play with his hair to turn him into goo, and he mercilessly abuses that knowledge. Toya's short, neat fingernails gently scratch his scalp, and Akito lets out a pleased sigh in response. While he prefers to playfully ruffle Toya's hair, Toya loves running his fingers through Akito’s hair much more gently, often commenting how soft and nice it is to the touch. It sometimes feels like he's being pet like a dog, but Toya looks happy, so he keeps his mouth shut.

Akito focuses back on the page, steadily adding more and more ink until he runs out of space. He flips to the next page, carefully scribbling down lyrics and ideas to go with them.

Toya suddenly takes his hand away, and there's more shuffling above him, so he gives Toya a confused look. Toya spreads his legs and wordlessly pats the inner side of his knee, so Akito moves to sit between his legs. Toya's legs squeeze him in response, as if hugging him, and Toya's hand lands back in his hair.

With a small chuckle, Akito gets back to work. It seems that Toya just wanted him to be closer, which Akito's not gonna complain about.

“Akito.” Toya breaks the silence after maybe a few minutes. Once Akito looks at him, Toya pats the top of his thigh. Akito frowns, confused, but puts the notebook and pens to the side, then gets up to sit in Toya's lap. He's not sure what Toya wants out of this, and the mirth in his eyes tells him that it's not as simple as it seems, but he follows Toya's command regardless. He gets rewarded with Toya's lips on his, slow and purposeful. He kisses back just as leisurely, lips falling open the moment Toya’s hand starts petting through his hair. Toya keeps him close, tongue lazily brushing against his own. After a moment, Toya pulls him away.

Toya wordlessly looks at the floor. Akito gives Toya a questioning look, but does move back to his previous spot. He picks his notebook back up, leaning into Toya. He can’t even begin to guess what the hell that was about, and he’s not sure if he wants to know.

Another few minutes pass in silence. Akito can’t focus well, confusion swimming in his head, because what on Earth has Toya been doing to him. With a sigh, he switches to a regular pen to start scribbling on the margins. Maybe a small break will help him refocus.

“Akito,” Toya starts barely a moment into his break.

“The hell’s been going on?” He puts away his things to look up at Toya, who has a warm and amused smile on his face.

Toya only pats the top of his thigh again.

With a frown, he moves to sit in Toya’s lap again. “Will ya tell me now?” He asks once he’s comfortable on top of Toya.

Toya doesn't answer, his hand landing in Akito's hair again. He shakes his head lightly, but lets Toya play with his hair. This goes on for a good moment, his confusion only growing with each second.

“You act like a dog,” Toya comments, still idly petting through his hair. When he only frowns in response, Toya finally elaborates. “You're normally very independent. You don't like being told what to do, and you're unafraid to speak your opinion in group discussions. However, I noticed that you listen to me, more often than not without any complaints.” Akito can only blink at his partner, heat rising to his cheeks. Does he really act like that? “I'm glad you trust me enough to obey me so often.”

“Dude,” He can only breathe out into the space between them, trying to process everything he's just been told.

Does he really act like a dog?

Thinking back on it, whenever Toya wants to try something new or go somewhere in their free time, he folds pretty fast, if not instantly. He's always happy to spend time with his partner, though. And as much as he likes hanging out with An and Kohane, there's only so many PxL trips he can tolerate before he can't stand to be within a kilometer radius of Tenma.

Come to think of it, Toya has reigned him in with a simple “Akito” too many times than he'd like to admit, exactly like an owner calling in their dog.

Damn it, Toya might be right.

“Don’t worry, it's not a bad thing.” Toya leans in for a brief and sweet kiss, which he happily reciprocates. “Your trust means a lot to me, and to know that you follow me so easily and unconsciously only proves how much you trust me. I want to treasure it as best as I can.”

Akito takes a moment to gather himself. “Did ya hafta confuse me so much, though?”

“I was curious to see what you would do,” Toya hums, “You lasted longer than I thought you would without asking about it. It only proved my thoughts further.”

Akito hides his face in Toya's shirt. It's an embarrassing thing to be compared to an obedient dog, but deep down, he doesn't wholly hate it. He doesn't want to disagree with Toya if he can, especially not over small things like how they should spend their free time together.

“Though, that would mean you're not much of a BAD DOG,” Toya muses, “Should I call you a good boy instead?”

Oh fuck.

“Do not,” He warns, sharper than he intended. His face is so hot it might burn a hole in Toya's shirt, and he hopes that Toya never thinks to pull this sort of shit in public. He might not survive the public humiliation, and the following teasing if An would be in range to overhear them.

“I apologize,” Toya says, sounding not very apologetic. Akito can hear the amusement in his voice. “Would a kiss make up for it?”

“Jus’ one?”

“Two, then? We shouldn't go too far, or else we'll get too distracted to continue our previous activities.”

Akito casts a quick glance at Toya's book, neatly closed around the receipt and placed to the side. They shouldn't accidentally damage it.

“Eh, who cares ‘bout that,” He shrugs.

The book and his notes can wait, because there's something more important to do. With a smile, he knocks Toya over onto the mattress, practically pouncing onto him.

Exactly like an excited dog would.
