Work Text:
Avery sat by the edge of his bed, his mouth dry as tears flowed down his cheeks. He glanced at the closed computer, feeling his heart ache even more. His small lamp illuminated his dark room, colder than ever.
Avery's head hurt like hell, he couldn't bare looking at his computer anymore. He stood up with trembling legs, tears dried up yet his heart still weeped. Avery made his way into his kitchen, the warm light almost blinding him. His apartment felt emptier than before, he was used to being alone, sure, but the feeling of loneliness tugged at him.
They could've been great friends, Avery thought. They could've been a great duo, they could've played Minecraft together, they could've done everything together. But, he's not here, is he?
Avery couldn't help but tear up, why did it have to be this way? He drank a glass of water and nearly threw up, the sound of crackling fireworks outside made his head hammer.
He and Derek could've met any other way. They could've met on campus, maybe in the mall, while shopping, even on the internet. But, you can't have everything, can you? Avery forced down another cold glass, he was out of energy drinks but he doubted he could even drink one in this state.
Avery went back to his room, slumping on the floor as he cried. Avery didn't know much about Derek, and that was the worst part. A guy he couldn't save. and he blamed himself for that.
Why didn't I save him? I could've stayed, I could've died with him. But I couldn't move. What the hell's wrong with me?
Avery's thoughts filled with accusations as he sobbed, curling up on the floor.
Until next time, friend.
What a bitter New Years.
