Work Text:
The most recent Victor, Johanna Mason, was in the Capitol, mentoring in the 72nd Hunger Games. Her tribute was dead and she felt a sense of.. failure.
Now Johanna was in the mentoring/ Victor bar area late that night, straddling the seat, drunkly, and drinking. Her short, strapless dress rides up. She starts to climb over the bar and Finnick steps over to her.
Johanna looks over her shoulder: “Oh. It’s pretty boy….” She slurs. There were hickies going up and down her neck and towards her exposed cleavage. Finnick knows what this means. He takes the glass away from her and Johanna weekly tries to grab the glass back. “Hey! Give that back!” She tries to grab it back, but unalike her Capitol persona, she wasn’t a mean drunk. She was a crying, snotty drunk. Though she didn’t know that. This was her first time getting drunk.
“No, no. Johanna, you don’t need this.” Johanna lets out small whine. Finnick leans down and whispers, “Have you cleaned up?” Concern is evident in his voice.
Johanna stares blankly into Finnick’s eyes. “W-why are you here?”
Finnick shakes his head. “Couldn’t sleep.” He helps Johanna stands up and holds an arm around her waist to keep her steady. He notices how Johanna tries to walk with her thighs separated. It’s a testament to how uncomfortable she is.
Finnick takes her to the District 4 tribute quarters. He sets Johanna up on the bed. When he moves to take Johanna’s dress off, she flinches back. “Relax, I’m not going to hurt you. You’re definitely not the first lady I’ve ever seen naked.”
Johanna, eventually, lets Finnick pull the sticky and tight dress off her. Underneath, she was in vulgar lingerie with hickies all over her body. She makes a small whimper sound and Finnick softens.
Finnick meets her eyes. “I’ve got a girlfriend back in District 4, okay? I would be distraught if she had to go through the stuff we do. I bet some man feels that way about you too.” He puts a hand on her shoulder.
Johanna’s eyes well up with tears. “I don’t got no man.”
“Oh…” Finnick says, now feeling awkward.
She clears her throat, her words slur. “I have a girlfriend and she’s… dying.” She doubles over sobbing as Finnick embraces her.
“Let’s just get you into some comfy clothes and talk about in the morning, okay?” Finnick felt his own growing hoarse in Johanna’s pain.
Finnick helps Johanna out of the lingerie and wipes her body down of… fluids. She gets in one of Finnick’s shirt and sobs silently on the bed.
“Just go to bed, okay?” Finnick whispers. He moves quickly to bring the small trash bin up to Johanna’s lips as she starts making a gagging motion. “And no more drinking. You can’t change things when you’re going neck and neck with Haymitch.”
Johanna eventually passes out, making her body as small as possible on the bed as she’s curled up in the fetal position. She looks almost like a kid. Almost innocent.
