Work Text:

Noob and me…

At least, that’s how things were supposed to be. But after what happened… I’m not sure anymore. I ruined things—for the both of us. And now, everyone seems to be moving forward, living their lives like usual. Meanwhile, I’m still stuck in the past, replaying every mistake I’ve made in my mind, over and over again. After everything I’ve done to you, I don't think I deserve forgiveness.

But somehow, they meet again. Sixer stands there, frozen in place, with his hands clenched at his sides—he’s afraid that they might shake too much if he dares to let go. He doesn't say anything at first, and simply watches the sight in front of him. Noob is sitting a few steps away, their back turned to him, their shoulders slightly hunched over. Beyond them, is the sun setting in the distance—the sky is a mixture of fading orange, and a soft purple, with all the hues together. The world feels quiet, except for the sound of the leaves from the surrounding trees rustling in the wind.

This is it. His only opportunity for forgiveness.

“I’m.. I’m sorry.”

The words come out rough, barely louder than the wind. Noob doesn’t turn around. Instead, they remain sitting there, their back still facing him, staring out at the sunset. When they eventually speak, their voice sounds soft—so quiet, almost fragile.

“Do you… really mean that?”

“Yeah,” Sixer begins, before taking a hesitant step forward. His voice trembles as he swallows hard. As he continues to speak, his fingers can't help but dig into his palms. “I really do."

"I’m sorry, Noob. I know it might be too late to fix things…” At that moment, Sixer lowers their head, and lets out a shaky breath. He stares at the ground, trying to muster the courage to ask them the question that's been plaguing his mind all this time. Noob doesn't respond right away—they let him speak, and let out all of the emotions he’s kept within.

“Noob… do you still—” Sixer pauses, his voice cracking under the weight of it all. “Do you still hate me…?”

It feels like an eternity before they speak. Something tight rises in Sixer’s chest, and for a second, they regret saying anything at all—

“No.”

Sixer’s breath hitches.

“I don't. I… never could.”

He looks up slowly, afraid of what he might see. Now, Noob has finally turned to face him. Their expression seems gentle, and a small, tired smile rests on their face—one that feels undeserved, especially to someone like him.

“After all… you’re my friend, Sixer.”

Something inside him breaks.

Those words nearly bring him to tears . His knees give out as he steps forward and drops down in front of them, landing hard on the ground. Without thinking, he reaches out for them, his hands trembling as he grabs theirs. He holds them together tightly, almost like he’s afraid they might disappear if he dares to let go.

“Do you think…” Sixer whispers, his voice wavering as the tears begin to blur his vision. “Do you think we could be friends again—?”

In response, Noob simply squeezes his hands, their thumb brushing softly over his knuckles. “I think… maybe…”

“Can we… really…?” Sixer leans closer to them, clearly desperate. “Do you think we could be friends again?”

Noob nods, slow but certain.

“Seriously…?” Sixer lets out a shaky laugh through his tears. "Do you really mean that—?”

Noob looks away for a moment, then back at him. Their cheeks are now flushed a faint red. “Y-Yeah… unless you don’t want to.”

“No—no, I do!” Sixer blurts out, gripping their hands tighter. He never imagined they would forgive him. “I… I want to be friends again—I really do!"

Noob smiles. “I’m glad to hear that,” they murmur softly, their grip tightening in return. “I missed you.”

“Thank you… thank you for forgiving me,” Sixer whispers, grateful for their kindness. “I promise, I won’t let you down. I’ll… I’ll try to be better.”

Sixer finally gives in. He starts to cry, his shoulders shaking as the tears spill freely down his cheeks. "I missed you, Noob… You’re my only friend…”

“Hey, don’t cry…” Noob bites their lip, their own eyes glistening with tears. “I’m here…”

“I’m sorry,” Sixer chokes out, wiping his face with his sleeve. “I know you should be the one crying instead, especially after all I’ve done… after how I hurt you…”

Noob doesn't answer. Instead, they lean forward, and wrap their arms around him, pulling him into a warm hug. In their arms, Sixer feels… safe. It's another act of kindness, one he isn't sure he truly deserves.

“It’s… going to be okay,” Noob murmurs, before resting their chin lightly against his shoulder. “We have each other now… and that’s all that matters.”

“Yeah…” Sixer whispers, clinging onto them. "I never thought this day would come—with us being friends again…"

“Me too,” Noob admits softly. “But I’m glad we could fix things in the end.”

Sixer simply holds onto them tighter. “Thank you, Noob…”

Thank you for being my friend, when no one else would. Thank you for staying by my side all this time—for being there with me, despite everything I’ve done to you. You’ve forgiven me time and time again, and always treated me with a kindness I know I don’t deserve. I’ve hurt you so much—and yet, you still care about me.

Even after I changed… even after I became this monster, you stayed by my side. You continue to tell me you love me, that you cared about me. You promise me that everything will be alright—and it makes me feel hopeful for the future. And you let me be your friend again—it’s a wish I’ve held onto for so, so long.

When I heard you say that, that aching weight in my heart felt lighter. I finally felt free from everything—and I want to fix things, and apologise for all the pain I’ve caused you. And now, I’ve realised this—that things will finally be okay, as long as I have you by my side, Noob.

With that, Sixer turns to Noob and smiles—a true, genuine one—for the first time in what feels like forever.

Thank you, Noob. Thank you for being my best friend. You changed my life—you gave me your friendship, you gave me a purpose—you gave me my very reason to live. For that, I will always be grateful. I’m thankful that we met, that we became friends. Without you, I would be nothing. So from the bottom of my heart…

“Thank you for everything, Noob.”

Noob smiles at him. “Anytime, Sixer." Then, they extend their pinkie, waiting patiently for their response. “Best friends forever?"

You truly are too kind. I really don't deserve any of this…

I promise, I’ll try my best to fix things—to make everything better, so that we can finally leave those terrible, old memories behind. I hope you can forgive me for any mistakes. I know you said that you already have, but I want to truly atone for everything—to right every wrong, and apologise for everything I’ve done that ended up hurting you. You… you saved me from that dark place, Noob. You gave me hope, and the courage to be myself.

And now that we’re together, we can finally be free. Honestly, I didn't know what I would do without you—but now that I have you once again, everything feels like they might finally be okay. I can be happy again, and hopefully, you can too. We can heal together. We can be friends again. And as long as I have you, nothing else matters. You’re my entire world, Noob. I don't know who I would be without you.

Finally, Sixer reaches out, and hooks his pinkie with theirs, securely the promise. “Of course!"

Noob and me…

We’ve escaped that terrible past. We’re now moving forward, finally free from it all.

I hope that we can remain best friends forever.

Sixer turns to Noob, a smile on his face—but then, they pause. The sight before them makes their smile falter.

A drop of dark red lands on the ground. Sixer’s heart stops.

Blood begins to drip down Noob’s forehead, and their body goes slack, slumping sideways into his arms. There’s a deep gash in their side, and the crimson starts to stain through their clothes. Whatever made that mark… it wasn't human.

“No… Noob—!” he cries, catching them in his arms. His hands tremble with fear as he presses against the wound, in an attempt to stop the bleeding. “Hey, you have to stay with me…! Please!”

But they don't respond. They’re already long gone.

Then, it hits. The truth. He remembers everything.

None of this was ever real. This… was just another dream, meant to taunt him for the rest of eternity. It was just serving as another reminder that he was stuck in this purgatory, with no other way to escape. At that moment, that horrible, yet familiar thought comes—it’s one that he knows is true, but always ends up breaking his heart, time and time again.

You ruined everything, Sixer… this is all your fault.
