“Who is the best boy, yes, that’s right, you are Shok.Wav. Daddy’s best boy,” Vox coos to the small shark pup in his arm. He’s so little, barely a foot long from snout to tail fin. He’s been growing slowly, but Vox knows that in a few decades, he’ll be huge. Right now, he was still his little pup.
He gently nudges the pup closer, scenting on either side of his tiny gills. They flutter, glowing a lighter teal as his little pup wriggles in his arms. A pleased rumble escapes Vox’s speaker as his salty, ozone scent covers his pup.
He would do anything for him. The best part of his afterlife is right here in his arms. No harm would ever come to his shark.
Alastor taps his microphone against the floor, knocking on Vox’s apartment door. In the past, he wouldn’t have bothered, but ever since Vox got that ridiculous half-bionic shark monster, Alastor has had to be more careful about unannounced arrivals.
The damn thing had nearly woken Vox up last time Alastor went to do one of his silent nightly wellness checks on the omega, blaring an alarm that had Vox jumping out of his nest, checking all his locks and then letting the stupid mutt of a creature into his bed!
Luckily, Vox hadn’t noticed him, but it had certainly put a damper on Alastor’s evenings. Now, when he was two glasses of whiskey in, and his alpha instincts started yelling at him to go mark what’s his, he had to settle for terrifying Vox’s neighbors, quietly, of course.
So, here he stands knocking on Vox’s front door like some pathetically average sinner. The only good thing about the whole ordeal is that there were no witnesses. No one in Vox’s hall would so much as open the door while he was around.
He raps one more time, irritated by the delay. His ears twitch as he hears footsteps, and then the deadbolt slides open.
“Sorry, sorry,” Vox says with a laugh, his boxy screen is flushed, and he’s panting. Alastor delicately leans in and scents the air, but there’s no deepening sweetness to the omega’s scent. Good. Alastor means to talk to Vox about his heat, but it’s still too early. He means to do this properly, and as soon as he manages to slip his leash with Rosie, he can. “Shoky was just playing, and he wouldn’t let go!” Vox coos at the damn creature while he holds up a ruined shirt sleeve.
Truly, Alastor does not understand the charm, but he bites back a growl at the wide, soft look Vox is sparing for the stupid shark. He reaches out and grabs Vox’s hand, twirling him into an easy spin and then moving to catch him when he stumbles. His inner alpha lets out a pleased rumble when Vox’s hands land on his chest as he steadies himself. Alastor doesn’t waste the distraction as he discreetly scents the back of the omega’s neck.
Vox’s scent was poor at the best of times, but thankfully, other sinners were not. And Alastor wouldn’t take any chances that his future mate would walk around unclaimed. Alphas were knotheads, and while Alastor certainly would revel in tearing them apart for touching what is his, he’d rather spare Vox the pain of having to break a bond.
“It’s no matter, my dear. I know that you have taken on a new responsibility.”
Vox laughs at that. “Yeah, come on and meet him, Al! He’s perfect, you're going to love him.”
Alastor highly doubts that, but Vox is already running to his bedroom to let the dull creature out. The biomechanical shark with a red cyclops eye cautiously glides towards him, circling him like a tiny predator.
Alastor’s ears go flat, and the obvious challenge has him puffing his chest out to make him look better. Despite the shark's obvious aquatic nature, Alastor couldn’t help but think of the dark night and the sharp teeth of the dogs that chased him through the bayou.
His frequency oscillates, high and unhappy, just outside of Vox’s frequency range. The creature seems to have no trouble picking up his signal, as it jolts back, moving closer to Vox.
Good, the stupid thing could apparently take a hint.
"Isn’t he the cutest!" Vox nearly purrs.
Alastor clenches his teeth and moves his arm around Vox’s shoulders, piloting him to the front door. “Yes, absolutely delightful, but Vox, I made us dinner plans, and I believe we ought to--”
There’s a flutter as something brushes the tails of his suit coat. His neck twists one hundred and eighty degrees, and he snaps his alpha incisors at the stupid shark pup, trying to nip at the waving cloth. He lets out a low, threatening growl.
Shok.Wav’s electrical patterns flash erratically. A desperate, frightened blurt of static blasts through the air as Shok.Wav darted through the air, hiding behind Vox’s legs.
“Really, Vox, you ought to teach—“
Vox’s teeth dig into Alastor’s arm and the alpha stares down at him with a disbelieving stare as Vox tears a strip of flesh off, swallowing it down. Blood smears across his screen as he hisses quietly at Alastor. His arm curling around the shark he’s clutching tight to his chest.
Alastor’s eyes widen. The omega’s are blown out. Vox is in a feral state, mechanically licking blood from his screen. His blue teeth are sharp and bared as he hisses threateningly.
It’s not something he’s seen often in omegas, usually only when someone threatens their pups. Oh. Well, that certainly explained a few things, including why Vox hadn’t had his annual heat yet. His omega instincts must be so confused at the addition of his pet.
The static charge builds in the air. Electricity dancing between Vox’s antenna is a warning of the threat in his territory. Alastor steps back, giving the omega space and reining in his musky alpha scent. It’s a hard task, especially when Vox looks and smells absolutely delectable like this. Red is a good color on him.
"I must admit, you look quite fetching like that," Alastor purrs as he backs onto the couch, holding up his still-bleeding arm to the omega. "Are you sure you wouldn’t like another taste?"
Vox blinks at him slowly, no recognition in his eyes, just the unflinching gaze of a predator. Alastor doesn’t hold back an amused alpha chuff at that. Vox truly was perfect. Next time, he’ll just have to let someone else threaten the little mutt so he can enjoy watching Vox work while not being the target.
He knows Vox will look beautiful as he tears out a throat. Dinner can wait, but maybe he can persuade Vox to take a few more bites. There’s nothing more pleasing to an alpha than feeding their omega.
