Work Text:
Billy Batson and Damian Wayne sat side by side on the edge of a rooftop, their legs dangling as they watched a warehouse
Billy unwrapped another piece of his chocolate bar, taking a bite
"I don’t think this is what your dad had in mind when he said you should do more ‘normal teenage stuff,’" he said, crumbs falling on his shirt as he wiped them away
Damian didn’t look away from the warehouse. "I’m spending time with my boyfriend. That seems adequately teenage."
Billy snorted. "Yeah, sure. Except most teenage couples aren’t staking out a warehouse waiting for a drug deal to go down. Usually it’s like… movie, or Maybe a milkshake if things get serious."
Damian finally turned his head, studying Billy with that intense, calculating gaze he had
"You’re right," he said after a moment. "Tomorrow, you and I will do something normal. No Robin. No Captain Marvel. No crime. Just Billy Batson and Damian Wayne."
Billy blinked mid-chew, lowering the chocolate bar slightly. "Wait, really? Just us?"
Damian nodded once, decisive. "Just us."
"And we’re not going to sit through one of your ‘fun’ lectures?" Billy added
"I wouldn’t call learning about moral philosophy a lecture," Damian replied, a hint of offense slipping through. "It is essential for understanding the framework of justice."
Billy waved a hand. "All I need to know about morals is ‘save innocent people and punch bad guys in the face.’ Boom. Covered."
"That is an oversimplification to a degree that is almost impressive," Damian said dryly. Then, softer, "But no. I promise it will be something you enjoy."
Billy leaned back on his hands, curiosity lighting up his face. "Okay… like what?"
"It’s a surprise."
Billy groaned dramatically. "Come on. Tell me. I wanna know."
"No."
"please?"
"No."
"Pretty please?"
"If I tell you, it ceases to be a surprise, William."
Billy then pointed at him with mock seriousness. "If you don’t tell me, I’m gonna keep thinking about it. And if I’m thinking about it, I’ll be distracted. And if I’m distracted during a fight, that’s bad strategy. So really, you’re risking the mission here."
Damian opened his mouth to argue, then paused. His expression shifted, . Slowly, a small, grin formed.
"Perhaps," Damian said, turning his body slightly toward Billy, "you could convince me."
Billy’s breath hitched just a little at the look on Damian’s face. "Maybe I can," he said, quieter now, leaning in, Damian leaned in too, their faces inches apart, then closer.
And then-
A loud shout echoed from inside the warehouse. Followed by the crash of something heavy hitting the ground.
Both of them froze.
"Something’s happening," Damian said instantly, the softness gone, replaced by sharp focus.
Billy groaned under his breath. "Of course it is. Because timing hates me."
They pulled back, already shifting into motion.
"Let’s go," Billy said, standing up and brushing crumbs off his shirt.
"I’ll take the front. You take the rear entrance," Damian instructed,
Billy smirked. "You want me to take the rear? Wow. I think our relationship is moving kinda fast."
Damian shot him a flat look. "Focus."
Billy grinned. "I am focused. I’m just also hilarious."
Before Damian could respond, Billy stepped back and called out, "Shazam!"
A bolt of lightning cracked down from the sky, transforming Billy batson into Captain Marvel
Damian, now fully Robin, didn’t miss a beat. "Try not to destroy the entire building."
"No promises!" Billy shot back, already lifting into the air.
Damian ran to the front as Billy flew to the back, they waited 3 seconds before through the door at the exact same time
Inside were a group of thugs, they were trying to pick up some brown packages that must of fell out of the few briefcases that were open on the ground
"you know, we Wouldn't be doing this if Marcus had remembered to lock the briefcases" a thug said
"Well maybe YOU should of checked if it was locked" another thug, most likely, Marcus countered
"So unprofessional..." Damian muttered shaking his head
"They're literally drug dealers" Billy said floating a few inches off the ground
"I know but still...." Damian said
"Who the hell are you" one of the thugs said as he noticed Captain Marvel floating
a few seconds later a fight broke out, it did not take long for the thugs to be defeated
Twenty minutes later the cops showed up to arrest the thugs and billy and damian left, they started walking down the sidewalk
"So was this a date?" billy asked with his hands behind his head
"No this was crime fighting" Damian replied immediately
"Romantic crime fighting?" Billy asked
"That's not a thing" Damain answered
"Maybe we can make it a thing" Billy said.
"I don't think so" Damian said
"Okay, well what's tomorrow" Billy asked
"It's still a suprise" Damian said
