Chapter Text
Miyuki closed his laptop with a huff, doubling over his desk in defeat. Chemistry had won–he accepted defeat. It was midterms week, and tomorrow was his last exam in said subject. College academics on top of baseball training was strenuous, a whole other level than what he was used to at Seido. He was getting used to it, though, it being his second year at Waseda.
He lifted his head at the sound of his phone buzzing. It was a call from Kuramochi. The lively shortstop had gone off to Meiji, eventually being joined by Sawamura, who was now in his first year. The three of them bumped into each other frequently, with Waseda and Meiji playing in the same Tokyo circuit.
“Oi, Miyuki! I’ve been calling you all day, ignoring me now, are you?” Kuramochi snarked as soon as he picked up the phone.
“Oh, really? I didn’t notice, you see, unlike you and Bakamura I actually put time in to study,” he replied without missing a beat, grinning in satisfaction when he sensed Kuramochi’s annoyance on the other end.
“That explains why your team’s been doing so bad lately, hmm?” Miyuki paused at that. “Wait! Don’t hang up,” Kuramochi said hurriedly, just as the catcher was about to smash the red button on his phone. “Your last exam is tomorrow, right?”
“Maybe. Why?”
Kuramochi groaned. “C’mon, remember, I told you about the party Saturday night? The basketball team’s throwing?”
The brown haired player sighed, he had forgotten.
“You’re coming, right?” He stressed the syllable threateningly on the other end of the line.
Miyuki hummed noncommittally.
“Don’t be boring! Sawamura convinced Haruichi to come, which means you have to come too.”
The younger Kominato brother was also at Waseda with him, a familiar kouhai on his team. The two of them were never particularly close at Seido, but had become good friends in their time together in college.
Although the younger player enjoyed going out more than he did, he had recently refused to go out at all in favor of studying for their midterms, much to Sawamura’s disappointment.
Miyuki did enjoy going out occasionally, and it had been a while…also he hadn’t had an opportunity to see Sawamura in a while. And Kuramochi, of course.
“Alright, fine.” He conceded with a chuckle, resulting in a loud whooping on the other end, causing him to jump and hold the phone away from his ear.
“It’s a Christmas miracle,” Kuramochi said, his voice dripping with mock wonder.
“Yes, yes, shut up now. It’s spring.”
“Easter miracle, whatever. I’ll text you more details later, don’t study too hard, or your brain will fall out.”
“Thank you for your concern, I don’t know what I’d do without you,” Miyuki deadpanned before hanging up.
He leaned back in his chair, raising his arms in a lazy stretch. He would deny it if asked because it ruined his brand, but he was excited to see his old teammates. Plus, he could let loose a little.
A small part of him had perked up at the mention of Sawamura being there, but he tried not to listen to it. He was just thrilled at the prospect of letting loose and seeing his friends.
He glanced down at his notes. But first, he had to figure out what the hell an alpha particle was.
