A Semi-Lethal Kiss

Summary:

Bakugou Katsuki decides to be romantic for the first time in his life and confess his undying feelings to Midoriya Izuku in an extremely painfully "awkward teenager" way.

He barely survives it. Literally.

Notes:

Hello!! Welcome to another fic. I wrote this for my Tumblr since I had proposed a writing idea, and people ended up really liking it.. so, here it is. A Semi-Lethal Kiss. The title is very literal.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

This day has been a long fucking time coming.

Or atleast, that's Katsuki's opinion on the matter.

Lucky for him, the sky was blue, the birds were chirping, the grass was green and the bees were doing their happy fucking buzzing around searching for flowers.

There were a lot of bees, actually. But that's to be expected, when he's standing underneath a cherry blossom tree. The thing was in full bloom, full of pink blossoms, though some of the earlier petals were already beginning to fall, covering the ground in a sheer layer of beauty.

Yeah. This would be romantic enough.

Usually Katsuki isn't the biggest fan of romance, but today was different. Today, was the day where he was finally telling his childhood friend, turned bullying victim, turned rival, turned friend— you get the gist, about his feelings.

And so, in typical Katsuki-fashion, everything had to be perfect.

"Kacchan!" Izuku shouted from about thirty feet away, with his usual smile. He'd been more perked up lately. It was rough for him, after the war. He still had his bad days of course, but things had been getting better.

Katsuki was sweating. Oh God. Oh fuck.

"Hey," he shouted back. He was trying to be nonchalant. He neither sounded nonchalant, nor looked nonchalant, but atleast he was trying.

"What'd you want to talk to me about? It must be something cool, right? Otherwise you probably would have just waited until our study session tonight." Izuku tilted his head, finally reaching where Katsuki was stood.

They were probably a five minute walk away from the Height's Alliance dormitory. Katsuki wanted to make an effort, alright? He couldn't let this just be a small thing. It was a big deal. He couldn't just say; "Hey, Izuku, did you know that you're the love of my life? Did you know that I think about you all the time and that my heart aches whenever I'm away from you? Oh, by the way, what's the answer to number 6 on the homework?"

"Yeah, yeah. Don't start conspiring." Katsuki rolled his eyes. He moved his left arm to try and cross his arms over his chest, but then he remembered the fact that his right arm is currently very immobile. He was still getting used to this shit, alright?

But it definitely wasn't making him look less nervous, the way he couldn't figure out how to stand.

"So.. it's a nice day out, right?" Izuku smiled.

Oh God. He's so fucking handsome.

"Uh.. yeah, for sure."

"Are you okay? You look kinda red," Izuku said, stepping closer to Katsuki.
"Do you have a fever?"

"It's just allergies, dumbass. I've been sneezing all day." That was a lie. Katsuki doesn't even have spring allergies.
"But I'm fine."

"Alright, that's good to hear. I was a little under the weather a week ago, so.. I thought for a second that you had caught—"

"Can we just cut to the chase, here?" Katsuki said, probably louder than he should have.

The collar of his shirt felt too tight. The back of his neck was sweating. His heart was pounding.

Izuku blushed.
"I.. uh, yeah. So, what'd you want to talk about? Your text was very.. ominous," Izuku let out a huff of amusement.

The wind was blowing through Izuku's hair. A petal fell on top of his head.

"I wanted to talk about.."

Katsuki couldn't stop looking at the petal.

He reached forward, making Izuku blink in confusion.

"You have a fuckin' petal in your rat's nest." He picked it out of Izuku's hair, and held it out infront of Izuku's face to show him.

Izuku paused for a second, before laughing.
"That's what you wanted to talk about? Has it been there all day?

"No, dumbass! I- I wanted to talk about something different."

Izuku calmed his laughing.
"You keep getting distracted—"

"Then let me talk, damn it."

Izuku held back more laughing, to let Katsuki have some silence.

They must have stood there for atleast three minutes, the only thing filling the silence was Katsuki saying the first half of many different words, trying to figure out how to phrase his thoughts.

Until he finally landed on,
"We have a complicated relationship. Right?"

Izuku tilted his head.
"I mean, I'd say so. But.. it's been pretty smooth sailing for a while now, right?"

Katsuki bit his lip. Was he ruining said smooth sailing by saying the shit he was about to say?

His heart was beating so fucking fast. He felt faint.

"I- I would agree, yeah." Stutter. Katsuki fucking stuttered. He took a deep breath.
"I.. and, you'd say— fuck, no, I.."

"Are you-"

"I'm fine, fuck, just give me a second."

Izuku stayed quiet, being patient. God, Katsuki didn't fucking deserve him.

"I'm an asshole. And.. you're too good to be around me. But.. I wanna make things right. And I wanna.. tell you, about something."

He kept stalling. He wasn't ready. But he couldn't back out of it now.

"I think you're great."

Izuku blinked in surprise.
"Uh.. I think you're great too."

"No— I‐ I think you're great in a different way. In.. a more way. More than you think i'm great, and in a different way, okay?"

"You're not making any sense, Kacchan."

"Fuck, you don't even get what I'm trying to say? I'm trying so hard here!" He said exasperatedly, bending down a bit with his hands hand on his knee. He was out of fucking breath. After a moment, he stood back up.
"I think you're so cool. And I was missing out on all the years that I was too full of myself to admit it. I think you're smart, and that you're— fuck, strong and shit, okay? I don't even have the words in- in my brain to tell you how much I fuckin' like you, alright?"

Izuku was progressively getting more and more red throughout Katsuki's whole speech.

"You- I- you-"

Katsuki sighed and rolled his eyes, shifting his weight to his other foot.

He would be here awhile. Izuku notoriously had a very long buffering time.

About five minutes later, Izuku seemed finally ready to speak.

"L- Like me? Like, like me? You.. you realize how that sounds, right?"

"I do," Katsuki raised an unimpressed eyebrow.
"And I meant it."

"You.." Izuku whispered.
"You like me?"

"Yeah."

"In a.. not friends way?"

"Yeah."

"This isn't a joke? Or- or a prank?"

Katsuki sighed exasperatedly.
"I don't lie, Nerd. Why would it be a prank?"

"I- I was just making sure.." he mumbled.
"I.. well, to be honest I've been thinking a lot about that type of thing lately, too."

Katsuki froze.

"I've admired you.. for as long as I can remember. But it's felt different lately, I guess, I've kinda always held you on a pedestal, but.. I think I fixed that, and now I guess, I've been seeing you for the real you, y'know?" He started, fidgeting with his hands.
"And.. I- I don't feel about anyone else, the way I feel about you. I don't think I could live without you."

Izuku realized what he said, and then he went back to being bright red.

"I- I mean, it sounds intense, right? But I mean it. I don't think I could live without you."

Oh no.

Uh oh.

Katsuki was in way over his head. This fucker is too perfect. Way too perfect.

"C-can I, uhm.."

Katsuki didn't answer.

"Maybe it's too soon, but can I—?"

Oh God. Something isn't right.

But, Katsuki nodded anyway. He wasn't dumb— he could tell what Izuku was asking to do. And so he nodded, and Izuku's face lit up.

Before Katsuki could really react, Izuku's arms were around his neck, and their lips were smashed together.

This is too much.

Katsuki couldn't move. Izuku was kissing him. Katsuki could actually taste Izuku's mouth— feel Izuku's lips moving against his. This was too good. There's no way this is actually happening.

He felt a weight on his chest. Fuck, fuck fuck fuck—

Izuku pulled back for a second, holding Katsuki's face in his hands.

"Are- are you okay, Kacchan? You're not.. uhm.." he blushed.

Katsuki tried to speak.

All that came out was a wheeze. He gripped his chest with his left hand.

"Kacchan?"

That was the last thing Katsuki remembered hearing before his back hit the ground, and he blacked out.

-----

The next thing Katsuki heard was beeping.

Annoying beeping. Really fucking annoying beeping. It kinda almost reminded him of right after the war, when he was..

Katsuki opened his eyes.

In the hospital. FUCK! He's in the hospital!

"The hell!?" He shouted, his voice sounding oddly gravely. Like he hadn't used it in a while.

The old lady— Recovery Girl, she preferred to be called, barged into the room.
"Katsuki! Do not be yelling! Especially now— you have to keep your heartbeat down," she said, frustrated. Though, Katsuki could tell that she was more worried than frustrated ultimately.

"Tell me what the hell is going on, then! Why the fuck am I back here!?" Katsuki shouted, attempting to sit up in the bed.

Recovery girl is oddly strong, Katsuki found, after she forced him to lay back down.
"You're back here, because you had a heart attack. You experienced extreme stress— and you passed out. You need to stay down," she explained slowly, in an almost scolding tone.

Katsuki paused.
And then he snapped.
"WHAT?!? HEART ATTACK!? ARE YOU CRAZY, LADY!?!" His heart monitor started beeping much faster.

"I'm gonna sedate you if you don't calm down!" She shouted back, hitting his leg with her cane.

The door to the hospital room opened again.
"I.. what's going on? What's with all the yelling?" Izuku asked, a concerned look on his face. He looked over at Katsuki, and his eyes widened.
"Oh. You're awake!"

"No duh, Nerd, who'd you assume was yelling? And what's this about the old lady saying I had a heart attack, hah?!"

"Uhmmm..." he hummed, fidgeting with his hands. He walked over to Katsuki's bedside and sat down in the visitor chair.
"She's saying that.. 'cuz you did, Kacchan. Uhm, we were just talking and you fell over and.."

Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows.
"No, dumbass we weren't just talking, we were—" he paused.
"Oh."

"W-well, you fell over and I had to do CPR and call the campus ambulance.. but, you're fine now, right?" Izuku paused.

"He's fine, right?" He turned to ask Recovery Girl too.

"He will be, in time. The job done on his heart during the war was very good, given it's circumstances, but he still should have come in afterwards to make sure everything was healing correctly, not even to mention, he should have been relaxing still from the whole ordeal," she scolded.
"What was happening that caused the heart attack? Anything of note at all? Anything irregularly stressful?" She asked.

Katsuki looked away from her.
"Nothing."

"Nothing?"

"Nothing."

"Well, in that case, you'll have to wear your heart monitor for even longer, to make sure this doesn't—"

"No! I am not wearing this shit any longer than I have to, you hear!?" He shouted trying to sit up in his bed again.

"Katsuki—" she had to shove him down again.

"Uhm, me and Kacchan were.. having an argument! Yeah! A- and that's what triggered his heart rate to go so fast. So, there was a reason.." Izuku lied.

"Is that so? I thought you two were beyond your childish squabbles by now," she said, slimming her eyes.
"Why aren't you two dating yet?"

Both Katsuki and Izuku paused for a moment.

"WHAT!?!" they yelled in tandem.

"I mean— I don't, well, to be honest Recovery Girl, we did kiss, b-but we aren't dating," Izuku rambled.
"Are we?"

"I don't fucking know, Nerd!?! How the hell am I supposed to know something like that?!"

Recovery Girl groaned.
"I'm too damn old for this— I'll make it easy for you two. You're dating now. Capeesh?"

Izuku blushed.
"Uhm, is that something you can really decide for us?—"

"It is now." She nodded.

"Oh.."

"Fucking fine, old woman. You win," Katsuki groaned, rolling his eyes.

"I'll let you two have some alone time. But if my machine tells me that your heart rate is going up, Katsuki. You're dead. And not from another heart attack, boy," she warned, walking very slowly out of the room.

Both Katsuki and Izuku stayed very quiet for a few minutes.

Katsuki sighed, finally deciding to be the one to start talking.
"So, Nerd? What'd'ya think? Are we dating, or no?"

"Well.. to be honest, I- I want to. But if that's not something you're interested in.. I.."

"Dumbass! The hell'd you think I confessed to you in the first place for?! Fucking obviously," Katsuki shouted, doing some sort of frustrated hand gesture with his left arm.

"Okay," Izuku stood up, his fists cleched, and his face looking determined.
"We're dating. That's settled."

"Yep."

"You're my boyfriend."

"Yep."

"And I'm your boyfriend."

"Sounds about right."

They proceeded to date for three weeks before they started joking about getting married. It wasn't much of a joke, though, seeing as it was only two weeks after Izuku's eighteenth birthday that they ended up getting eloped.

You can believe that their parents and friends were pissed. Seeing as none of them were ever even informed that they had started dating.
