Chapter Text
Chuuya tilted his hat to the guards outside Mori’s door. The guards simply opened the door. Mori must have told them Chuuya was coming.
Chuuya anxiously stepped inside. It wasn’t everyday the boss of the Port Mafia called you into his office. Chuuya held back a grimace at the thought of what Mori had in store for him.
He walked into the room, kneeling down before Mori.
“Boss,” Chuuya acknowledged, “You called?”
“WHAT?! You’re sending me on a mission with him?!” Chuuya recognized that voice anywhere.
“DAZAI? What are you doing here?!”
“What are YOU doing here?!” Dazai retorted from beside Mori. Mori simply rolled his eyes at the exchange.
“Now boys, stop fighting. We have a lot to discuss today.”
Dazai and Chuuya stopped their bickering, turning to look at Mori.
“Good,” Mori praises, “I’m assigning you two to an infiltration mission.”
“Whyyy?” Dazai pouted and stared at Chuuya. “I don’t wanna work with the slug.”
“Why you-“ Chuuya’s words were cut off when Mori raised his hand.
“Dazai, I’m assigning the two of you to a very important mission. Though, I’m sure you’ve already guessed that much.”
Dazai pouted, “But why with him of all people?”
Mori sighed, “Because, dear Dazai. You two are the most skilled teenagers in the Port Mafia. This infiltration mission happens to take place within a high school.”
Mori looked between the two boys, and when they don’t speak, he continued, “You are both aware of how Yokohama is sealed off from the rest of the world?”
The boys nodded. Dazai thought for a second before adding, “The rest of the world went haywire after they all started mutating. Yokohama sealed itself away with a barrier created from the remnants of a skill-user. What does that have to do with our mission?”
Mori clapped his hands together, “Very good Dazai. I’ve taught you well. Yes, Yokohama sealed itself away after the emergence of what the outside world calls ‘quirks.’ These quirks appear similar to our abilities, but are actually quite different. You see, quirks come from a person’s genetics. So, if a parent has a specific quirk, it is likely the child will inherit a similar quirk. However, our abilities come from a place similar to what one would call the ‘soul.’ This means that while quirks appear to be the same as abilities, abilities are actually much stronger, not being limited by one’s body’s physical capabilities.”
Chuuya tapped his feet on the ground while furrowing his brow. “Nice biology lesson, but what does this have to do with our mission?”
Dazai smirked in the way Chuuya knew would lead to him being mocked. “Oh Chuuya. My silly dog needs to think more! It’s quite obvious what Mori is saying.”
Mori looked towards Dazai. “Is it?” He said in that knowing tone.
“Why of course! Quirks, high school, the barrier, infiltration. It could only mean one thing.”
Chuuya scowled at Dazai, “Well, what is it stupid mackerel?”
Dazai sat down on a nearby desk, kicking his feet while looking away from Chuuya. “I’m too tired to explain it to someone as dumb as you. Mori can explain fine.”
“Why you little-“ Chuuya rolled up his sleeves and marched over to Dazai. He only stopped once he heard Mori cough behind him.
“Now Chuuya, I can’t have you go injuring your partner on day one. Why don’t you come back here and I’ll explain what the two of you will be doing.”
Chuuya looked from Dazai to Mori and back again. Reluctantly, he walked back over to Mori. His loyalty towards the boss winning over his desire to beat the shit out of Dazai. Chuuya bowed to Mori, doing his best to ignore Dazai sticking his tongue out at him.
“I apologize, boss. It won’t happen again.”
Mori smirked as he twirls a spoon around in a cup of tea. “I’m sure it won’t. Now, as I was explaining, abilities are far more powerful than quirks. Therefore, those that know about abilities are hesitant to engage us. This has allowed the Port Mafia to act freely while self-proclaimed ‘heroes,’” Mori spat out the word, “Ran amuck among the outside world. However, lately the government has been trying to create trading opportunities with the outside world, specifically within Japan. This has led to a plan to send students from their most prestigious hero school into Yokohama.”
“What?!” Chuuya cried out in spite of himself. Yokohama is his home, he can’t bear the thought of heroes coming in and messing it up.
“Calm down Chuuya. I know you’re upset, but this is where you two come in. You see, ‘villans,’” Mori places heavy air-quotes over the word, “Have attacked the school. This has made the principal weary of sending the kids to Yokohama. Because of this, the principal and I were able to setup a deal. You two will officially be there as bodyguards, protecting the children from any attacks. Of course, you’ll really be there to gather information. Well Dazai, am I missing anything?”
Dazai hopped off the desk. “Nope! Except how much Chuuya will have to study to be able to pass the classes.”
Chuuya growled, “What do you mean by that?”
Dazai strolled along. “Well, just that you’re too stupid to go to school-” Dazai dodged a strike from Chuuya- “But not to worry! You have your lovely master here! I would never let my dog fail!” Dazai ducked under another kick.
“I’m not your dog!” Chuuya yelled as Dazai continued to dodge with ease.
Mori cleared his throat, turning the boys attention back to him. “I’ve arranged for you two to leave early tomorrow morning, so I suggest you start packing now.”
Dazai and Chuuya nod, knowing that was their sign to leave.
~~~
Chuuya was sitting on Dazai’s mattress (the only real piece of furniture he owned) while Dazai threw some things together. He had arrived at Dazai’s shipping container after Dazai had called him, claiming it to be an emergency. However, when he had arrived, the emergency turned out to be a lonely Dazai not able to pack for himself.
“Chuuuuya,” Dazai called from within a mountain of clothes. “I don’t know what to weaaaar.”
Chuuya sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Just pick something comfortable. Mori said we’d be given uniforms anyway.”
Dazai popped his head out of the pile. He held up a shirt to Chuuya. “What about this?”
Chuuya didn’t even look up as he replied, “Sure.”
Dazai pouted, “Chuuuya, you aren’t even looking.”
Chuuya rolled his eyes and looked at the shirt. He nearly did a spit take.
“W-where did you get that?” Chuuya stuttered. The shirt Dazai had chosen to show was a picture of Chuuya sleeping on Dazai’s mattress. His hair was a mess and drool was dripping from his mouth. His limbs were contorted in such a way Chuuya doesn’t think he could replicate it if he tried.
Dazai simply shrugged, “Kouyou made it for me.” Chuuya made a mental note for later.
“You can’t bring that.”
“Whaaat? Why nooot?” Dazai whined as he held the shirt up to his face.
“Don’t even think about it.”
“Fineeeee,” Dazai agreed. Though Chuuya swears that pile was the “take to school” pile.
Chuuya helped Dazai sort through more clothes. He also made sure he packed the essentials, like new bandages, toothpaste, and school supplies. Chuuya was glad that he had already packed, as by the time they were done, it was dark out.
Chuuya grabbed his bag. He was about to leave, when a hand on his jacket stopped him.
“Chuuya, it’s dark out. We’re going together anyway, so just stay here.”
Chuuya retorted, “On your dirty mattress? No way. I wouldn’t be caught dead on that.”
Dazai teased, “That shirt says otherwise.”
Chuuya blushed as he remembered the blackmail Dazai had on him. He’s going to have to give Kouyou a piece of his mind.
“Fine, I’ll stay if it’ll shut you up.”
“Yaaay! I knew chibi loved me!” Dazai threw his arms around Chuuya.
“Get off of me stupid mackerel.”
“My dog is being mean to me. He’s becoming more like a dirty slug.”
“You bandage wasting idiot!” Dazai slipped away before Chuuya could start pummeling him.
The two bickered with each other as they got ready for bed. Chuuya didn’t really bring pajamas, and Dazai never really liked sleeping in clothes. So, the two boys end up climbing into bed in just a pair of boxers.
Chuuya faced away from Dazai as Dazai sat closest to the wall. It’s easier to watch the blind spots that way. Besides, Chuuya was the stronger skill-user out of the two.
Those were the excuses going through Chuuya’s mind as Dazai threw his arm over him. Chuuya could feel No Longer Human activate, instantly quieting Arahabaki. Instead of pulling away, like most people did once Dazai nullified their ability, Chuuya scooted in closer. He felt Dazai’s bandages on his naked back.
Chuuya has always been something of an insomniac. The constant roar of the god within him made it difficult to sleep. Growing up in the slums and working in the mafia probably didn’t help much either. But it was so easy for Chuuya to drift off with Dazai. His ability quieted the god, and an extra set of eyes was always useful. So Chuuya fell asleep, wrapped in Dazai’s arms.
Dazai, on the other hand, never slept. It didn’t particularly matter when or where he lied down, he simply couldn’t bring himself to fall asleep. So instead of sleeping, he thought about their mission. He knows Mori must be scheming something, he just has to figure out what.
Or…he could think about how cute Chuuya looks while he’s asleep.
Dazai quickly took his phone out and snapped a picture of the sleeping ginger. Chuuya might kill him for it…buuuut he could get a new shirt. Dazai decided it was completely worth it to send the photo to Kouyou.
[Dazai: *picture* Look what I found
Kouyou: Aww little Chuuya looks so cute!
Dazai: Doesn’t that face deserve to be on a t-shirt?
Kouyou: Absolutely. I’ll send it to you within the week.
Dazai: Thx Kouyou ur the best! xx]
Dazai put his phone away, content to spend the rest of his night staring at the sleepy ginger.
~~~
Suddenly, it was morning, and Chuuya had to pry the bandaged brunette off of him.
“Let me go, Dazai!” Chuuya tried and failed to rip the arms off of him. Dazai simply grumbled and held on tighter. Chuuya can’t even use his ability to escape thanks to No Longer Human.
Dazai mumbled, “Five more minutes.” He held onto Chuuya like he was a stuffed animal.
Chuuya conceded, and simply snuggled back up to Dazai. The feeling of No Longer Human was comforting… Maybe he could let himself stay there for a second or two…or three.
After the five minutes he had promised were up, Chuuya tried again to shake Dazai awake.
“Dazai, they’re picking us up soon. You need to get up.”
“Nooooo,” Dazai moaned.
Chuuya grumbled, “At least let me up. I actually give a damn about what I look like.”
Dazai simply squeezed tighter, mumbling softly, “Bad doggie. Don’t abandon your owner.”
That’s it, Chuuya’s gonna break.
“Dazai please. Dazai we need to get dressed. Dazai I’m serious. Oh for fucks sake Dazai get up already!”
Dazai murmurs something incoherent.
“Heh? Speak up.”
Dazai murmurs, louder this time, “…I want coffee.”
Chuuya groans, “Urgh…fine. If you let me get ready, I’ll get you coffee.”
Dazai pouts.
Chuuya groans again, “FINE I’ll make you coffee.” And just like that, Chuuya is freed from the bandaged grasp.
Chuuya gets up, throws on a shirt, and saunters on over to the…oh no. This is Dazai’s place. Dazai doesn’t exactly have what you’d call a house. It’s more of an over-glorified box.
Chuuya turns to Dazai. “Hey…where’s your bathroom?”
Dazai flops over in his bed, mumbling something about slugs.
Chuuya peaks his head outside the shipping container, and spots what can only be a public restroom. Chuuya groans and shouts back inside the shipping container, “Next time, we’re staying at my place.”
Chuuya drags his bag inside the restroom, taking out a smaller bag and placing it by the sink. He opens the bag, taking out multiple skincare products. He ties his hair up and out of the way, before applying his creams.
After around ten minutes, a sleepy Dazai enters the bathroom.
He enters a stall, slamming the door behind him. Chuuya, who was definitely not expecting that, almost drops his face-mask.
Dazai then exits the stall, walking over to the sink next to Chuuya. He turns on the water, quickly swishes some water onto his face, and then turns to leave.
“Absolutely not,” Chuuya pulls Dazai back over to the sink, “First of all, you’re a stain on this world. Second, brush your damn teeth.”
Dazai, too tired to argue, simply accepts the toothbrush and toothpaste Chuuya pulls out of his bag. Dazai gets to brushing his teeth (albeit rather slowly) and Chuuya takes off his face-mask.
Dazai watches in amazement as Chuuya applies more products than he can even count to his skin.
Chuuya looks at Dazai, face wrinkling in disgust as he remembers Dazai’s tragic attempt at washing his face. He digs around in his bag, before shoving cleansing balm towards Dazai. Dazai’s visible eye widens, and he quickly shake his head.
Chuuya scoffs, “Oh come on. It’s good for you! It’s a miracle you haven’t broken out yet, what with the horrid washing and dirty bandages.”
Dazai looks at the bandage covering his eye in the mirror. “I guess I should take this off. It might make the kids suspicious.”
Chuuya shrugged, “If you want. It doesn’t matter to me. Bandage or not, you should still WASH YOUR FACE PROPERLY!”
Dazai screams as Chuuya shoves cleansing balm onto his face.
After a lot of grumbling from Dazai, he took his bandage off and washed his face with the balm—not that he had a choice in the matter. Chuuya even got him to use some moisturizer.
Chuuya turned to Dazai after finishing his skincare and putting the supplies back in the bag. Dazai is still amazed at how it all fits. Chuuya looks Dazai up and down before asking, “How do you shower?”
Dazai stares blankly at Chuuya, before replying like it was the most obvious thing in the world, “I jump in the port.” Chuuya stares at Dazai, mouth agape.
“You did not just say that.”
“What? Mori doesn’t have a problem with it.”
Chuuya slaps himself on the face. “I’m not gonna ask.”
Dazai hums to himself as they exit the bath. “So…” He leans over, definitely in order to bother Chuuya. “Where’s my coffee?”
Chuuya groans, he had completely forgotten about his promise. “Where am I supposed to make coffee if you don’t have a kitchen?” Chuuya asked.
Dazai shrugs, “I dunno. Figure it out.”
“…thanks for the help.”
“You’re welcome!”
Dazai ducks under the kick headed his way.
Chuuya has decided Dazai is getting instant coffee. He is currently huddled over one of the bathroom sinks, water bottle in hand, trying to fill the damn thing. But of course, they had to make the water bottle just too big to be easily filled. So, Chuuya has to tip the bottle at just the right angle, letting only droplets of water in at a time. Chuuya is thiiis close to just crushing it with gravity, when finally the bottle is filled enough. He rips open a package of instant coffee he had found in his bag and poured it into the bottle. He put the cap on and just started shaking it while walking back to Dazai.
“Here.” Chuuya shoves the bottle at Dazai.
“Yaaay! Thank you chibi! I knew you were good for something!”
“I’m going to take the coffee back.”
“No!” Dazai hugs the coffee to himself protectively. “It’s okay. I won’t let him touch you.”
Chuuya sighs, resigning himself to simply getting dressed.
Chuuya puts on his normal outfit—a black vest and jacket—before turning to Dazai.
Dazai, port mafia executive extraordinaire, is still sitting there in his boxers. Chuuya is about to say something, when Dazai simply holds out a new roll of bandages. Dazai sits there, looking at Chuuya expectedly.
Chuuya walks over, taking the bandages from Dazai. Dazai starts to remove his old bandages. He moves slowly, taking his time, and Chuuya doesn’t rush him. He knows how hard this is for Dazai.
Dazai removes the last bandage, his eyes glazed over. Chuuya tries his best to not make eye contact with the scars littered across his arms. Chuuya carefully wraps Dazai. He hates seeing Dazai like this, but he doesn’t want to rush and mess up. So, he slowly reapplies the bandages, and if he notices new scars, he doesn’t mention it.
Chuuya finishes up, ripping the bandages off the roll and shoving the rest into his bag. Dazai flexes his hands, circles his shoulders, and does a few quick stretches to make sure the bandages sit right. Chuuya watches, and when he sees Dazai’s eyes return to normal, he lets himself breathe.
Chuuya speaks first, “You ready to get dressed?” Dazai nods. Chuuya helps Dazai over to the pile of clothes in his room (if you can even call it that). Dazai holds up his usual outfit—Mori’s jacket and some simple pants. Chuuya is quiet as he helps Dazai slip into the new outfit.
Dazai tips Chuuya’s hat down into his face. “This’ll definitely scare the kids.”
“What? Why?” Chuuya fixes his hat.
“Because of the terribly fashion choice!”
“You!” Chuuya chases the fleeing Dazai around the shipping container and out the door.
The two sit expectedly outside the Mafia’s headquarters. They’re largely ignored by the brutes entering and leaving the building. Dazai only waves once, to Hirotsu. Chuuya recognizes the old man but doesn’t say anything.
Dazai kicks his feet as he looks up at the sky. “Chuuya, that cloud looks like a slug.”
Chuuya looks up. “Oh yeah? Well that one looks like a mackerel.”
Dazai smiles, but suddenly drops it. “What do you think Mori wants from this mission?”
Chuuya looks at Dazai, confusion evident on his face. “What do you mean? Didn’t he say we were gathering information?”
Dazai snickers. “Sending Soukoku out just for some information?”
Chuuya shrugs. “Who cares what the boss wants? All we have to do is follow his orders.”
Dazai continues staring up at the sky, letting the silence sit.
And then suddenly, he jumps up. “This is boring,” he exclaims, “I’m just going to go drown myself in the river. Call me when they get here!”
“What-hey! Get your ass back here you suicidal maniac!” Chuuya yells after a fleeing Dazai.
A couple of minutes later, a van arrives. A Port Mafia member drives the car, though Chuuya can’t remember his name. Chuuya opens the door to find leather seats, along with a soaked and grumbling Dazai.
“Stupid Mori. Always stopping me from dying.”
“Oh hey, you’re still alive,” Chuuya comments as he slips into the car. Dazai glares at him.
“Maybe someone will notice a stupid ginger sitting in this car and ram into us. Oh wait, you’re too short to see out the window. Never mind.”
“What did you say?! I’m still growing you bastard!” Chuuya lunges for Dazai.
The driver sighs, knowing they’re definitely going to be doing this the entire ride.
~~~
Dazai and Chuuya finally arrive at the prestigious UA high school. The driver drop them off at the front gates, where a tired, middle-aged man is waiting.
“Hello there!” Dazai greets excitedly. Chuuya simply bows slightly. Neither of them have been to school before, so they have no idea how to greet a teacher.
“Hi…My name is Aizawa. I will be your teacher.”
“Nice to meet you! I’m Dazai Osamu, and this is Nakahara Chuuya.”
“Just call me Chuuya,” Chuuya huffs.
Aizawa glares at him. “Dazai and Chuuya…well I’m supposed to take you on a tour of the building. Follow me.”
Dazai skips happily after the teacher while Chuuya trails behind.
Aizawa, reluctantly, showed Chuuya and Dazai around the school. Dazai took mental notes of every hallway, door, and room. Chuuya let Dazai do the hard work—he doesn’t have a photographic memory—but he took note of where the cameras were. Chuuya was especially excited to see the sparing grounds. Aizawa told them they would be staying in dorms with the other students, but he was “too tired to take them there.” Dazai, of course, had researched the blueprint of the dorms beforehand, so it wasn’t a problem. Finally, the tour ended with a trip to the principal’s office.
Aizawa walked inside first, before exiting and calling the boys inside. Chuuya was surprised that Aizawa wouldn’t be joining them for the meeting.
Dazai plopped down on one of the chairs in front of Nezu. Chuuya preferred to remain standing next to Dazai.
Nezu turned around and faced the two boys. Chuuya couldn’t help but exclaim, “A rodent?!”
Dazai whacked Chuuya. “Chuuya, that’s rude. This is principal Nezu.”
Nezu grinned. “Yes, thank you Dazai. It’s quite alright though. I’m used to these sorts of reactions.”
Chuuya looks at his feet and mutters, “Sorry.”
“Wow, Chuuya apologizing? How rare.” Dazai comments. Chuuya uses all of his strength to hold himself back from killing him right then and there.
“Well,” Nezu continued, “Since you two are here under…special circumstances. I thought I’d handle your initiation personally. As you two are already aware, you are to be here as bodyguards. Your jobs are simply to keep the students safe. However, due to the fact that there is a traitor in the building, I have not informed any of your teachers of your situation. Therefore, you will be treated and act like normal students. Understood?”
The boys nod, making a mental note of the word “traitor.”
“Good!” Nezu claps his hands together. “Well, Aizawa will be outside to take you to your new classroom. You’ll be in class 1-A.”
Dazai nods, standing up and following Chuuya out of the classroom.
They meet Aizawa at the door, who wordlessly leads them over to their classroom. Chuuya reads the labels on the doors: Class 1-C, Class 1-B, and Class 1-A. Aizawa enters first, without much of a care for his two new students. Dazai enters after, and Chuuya follows behind.
The class stops talking, turning to stare at the new arrivals. Chuuya can tell Dazai is noting down their quirks.
“Class,” Aizawa starts, “We have two new transfer students. Treat them like you would treat anyone else. Oh, and share your notes with them. That’s all.” Aizawa then crawl’s into a yellow sleeping bag, flopping down onto the floor. Chuuya wonders absently if that’s normal for teachers to do.
A guy with blue hair and engines on his legs starts making strange, robotic movements. “You two, I’m Tenya Iida, class rep. Please introduce yourselves.”
Dazai puts on his cheerful persona, “Dazai Osamu! I’m glad to meet you!”
Chuuya rocks back and forth, hands in his pockets. “Nakahara Chuuya. Though you can just call me Chuuya.”
A shy green haired boy suddenly speaks up, “Um…I’m Midoriya Izuku. I was just wondering what your quirks are?”
Chuuya speaks absentmindedly, “Hm, quirks?” Dazai jabs him in the stomach.
“My quirk is nullification!” Dazai announced. “I can nullify a quirk with just a touch. This guy over here has the quirk gravity manipulation. He controls gravity.”
Chuuya sees a girl’s eyes widen at the mention of gravity.
A spiky-haired blonde shouts, “What are a couple of extras doing joining our class this late?!”
Chuuya growls, “Wanna say that again?”
Dazai holds a hand out in front, stopping him. “We’re here on recommendation.”
A tall girl in the back speaks up, “Ah, so like me and Todoroki. Though it’s surprising they would let you transfer so late.”
Chuuya shrugs, “Guess we’re just that good.”
The blonde scoffs, “I could beat you in a heartbeat.”
“What did you say?!”
“Now now Chuuya. Don’t antagonize the class on the first day. Anyway, Iida was it? Where should we sit?”
Iida waves his arms around, “You can sit in the back next to Todoroki.”
“Thanks!” Dazai grabs Chuuya by the hand and drags him to the back of the class. There’s only two empty seats, so Todoroki must be the kid with red and white hair.
Dazai sits down next to him, while Chuuya decides to just sit back. Dazai leans over and taps Todoroki on the shoulder. “Psst. Can we borrow your notes?” Todoroki glares at him.
A guy with yellow hair sitting in front of Dazai turns around. “Here, you can borrow mine.”
“Thanks! You are…?”
“Kaminari Denki. Pleasure to meet ya.”
“Nice to meet ya too!” Dazai takes the notes, turning around to face Chuuya. Chuuya really couldn’t care less about school. He takes one look at the notes and cringes. You see, Chuuya never really learned how to read. So of course, the notes were a whole bunch of gibberish.
Dazai notices Chuuya’s scrunched expression. He points to a section of the work and begins explaining it like Chuuya simply didn’t understand the work, not like he was illiterate.
“You see, you use the characters like this because of these rules…” Dazai explains. (Can you tell I don’t know Japanese?)
Chuuya nods along, knowing inside that he will definitely be failing all of his classes.
Finally, the bell rings and Chuuya is free from the torture that is reading. However, he soon learns that school will not end that easily.
“I AM HERE! To bring you guys to training!” A tall, muscular man enters the room. The whole class seems excited, so Chuuya assumes it’s an important guy.
He leans over to Dazai, “Hey, who’s that?” However, Denki overhears the conversation.
“You don’t know who All Might is?!” The rest of the class turns to stare at the new arrivals.
“How do you not know All Might?!”
“He’s the number one hero!”
“He’s literally famous!”
Chuuya stutters. Thankfully, Dazai is there to save him.
“Chuuya here isn’t big on pro heroes. He also has face-blindness, so it’s difficult to recognize people.”
The class settles down, seemingly accepting the explanation.
All Might says, “Now class, since we have new students, Aizawa thought it would be a great opportunity to see how your quirks have developed!
The class starts whispering excitedly to each other. Everyone is always eager for a chance to show off their quirks.
Dazai raised his hand.
“Err yes…uh?”
“Dazai.”
“Yes Dazai?”
“What will this training entail?”
All Might flexes his muscles. “Why young Dazai, that’s a great question! Why don’t you all go change into your gym uniforms and I’ll explain when we get there!”
The class gets up and starts walking out, whispering hurriedly amongst themselves. Chuuya and Dazai are left alone, with a lump in a sleeping bag.
They both look between each other, neither of them knowing what to do. Just then, a tall man with spiky, yellow hair walks through the door.
“Yo Shouta, you in here?” He yells. Aizawa grumbles from the floor.
“Hey! I thought since All Might’s talking the kids we could talk in the break room!” He seems to never stop shouting.
“Uh, excuse me?” Chuuya speaks up.
The blonde turns to face them. “Oh sorry! Didn’t see ya there! What are you two doing in here?”
Dazai speaks, “We’re the new transfer students. We were just wondering where our gym uniforms would be?”
Yamada thinks for a moment. “Hmm that’s tough. Shouta here would probably know.”
The sleeping bag rolls over.
“Shouta, you gotta help these kids.”
The sleeping bag mutters something Chuuya can’t make out.
“The closet?” Yamada walks over to the closest and pulls out two uniforms. “Ah, here. These are just extras because yours haven’t arrived yet. I’ll bring you down to the changing room so you can change.”
Dazai tenses slightly, unnoticeable to most, but Chuuya sees the change in posture and steps in. “Actually, is there anywhere more private to change?”
Yamada thinks for a moment. “Hm…I guess you could use my office. But just for today! You’ve gotta get comfortable with your classmates.” Yamada throws them the uniforms.
Chuuya catches them and hands one to Dazai. “Thanks.”
The three walk out of the classroom and down the hall. Yamada seems tense as the two walk without speaking.
Yamada breaks the silence, “So…I’m Present Mic! I’ll be your English teacher.”
Chuuya nods, paying more attention to Dazai than the annoying blonde.
Dazai suddenly asks, “You and Aizawa seem close.”
Yamada stutters, “W-well uh you see-“
Aizawa suddenly appears behind them. “We’re married.”
“Shouta! I thought we were trying to keep it on the down low?”
Aizawa shrugs, coffee in hand. Chuuya makes a note to ask him if Dazai ever complains again.
Yamada continues, “Well I guess the secrets out. Yep, he’s my husband. Anyway, here’s my office. You can change in there. Do you know your way to the training grounds?”
Chuuya looks to Dazai, who nods.
“Alright, see you two!” The couple walks off.
Chuuya and Dazai enter the office. It’s fairly normal, in contrast to Mic’s outward persona.
Dazai plops down on a chair while Chuuya starts to strip.
“Hey bandages, hurry up and change. We’re probably late as it is.”
Dazai, however, doesn’t respond. His eyes are glazed over, and he appears to be in another world. Chuuya sighs, pulling at the awkwardly long uniform.
He walks over to Dazai and starts helping him change. He grimaces as he notices how loose the uniform is on him. He really needs to get him to eat more. Chuuya hoists Dazai over his shoulder and carries him out towards the grounds.
~~~
When Dazai and Chuuya reach the training grounds, All Might is about halfway through his explanation.
All Might turns to look at the two as Chuuya puts Dazai down. “Ah, Dazai and Nakahara, how nice of you to join us!”
“Chuuya.”
“Hmm?”
“It’s just Chuuya.”
“Ah, alright young Chuuya. Well, as I have explained to the rest of the class, we will be doing quirk exercises. They are all very simple tests, similar to the exercises the class took at the start of the year.”
Chuuya drowns out the rest of All Might’s ridiculously long explanation. He focuses on getting between the thinking Dazai and the rest of the class.
The blonde kid from early suddenly sallied up to them. “Hey Chuuya! I’ve already done these tests so I can help you out if you need.”
Chuuya smirks. “Thanks but no thanks. I’ve got this.”
“Well, if you’re sure…” Denki runs back over to a red haired kid. Chuuya didn’t bother to learn his name.
“Alright stupid mackerel snap out of it. We have a test to do.” Chuuya bonks Dazai on the head.
“Oww. Bad doggie!” Dazai yells, turning a few heads.
Chuuya leaned in and whispered, “Hey so, how high should I score?”
Dazai responds, “Score as high as you want. We got in on ‘recommendation’ so doing poorly would be suspicious.”
Chuuya cracks his knuckles. “Got it.”
Chuuya walks up to the first test, the ball throw. He winds his arm back, and then activates his ability. The ball glow red and goes flying through the air.
Chuuya walks back, ignoring the heated gaze the explosion boy was giving him (Bakugo? Chuuya can’t remember).
Dazai walks up and picks up the ball. He talks out loud. “These tests don’t seem very fair. My quirk isn’t particularly suited for stuff like this.” He tosses the ball and it lands a little ways in front of him.
All Might glared at him. “Alright then young Dazai. What do you propose instead?”
Dazai grins mischievously. “One-on-one duels. That way we can show our control over our abilities and our battle knowledge.”
All Might laughs obnoxiously. “I like your style young Dazai! Duels it is! Momo, would you create some papers for us?”
A girl with a ponytail suddenly glows and slips of paper with words on them appear. Dazai wonders how it works.
She hands the slips over to All Might who shuffles them around and calls out the pairings.
Dazai ended up with Todoroki, while Chuuya got paired with Bakugo.
Bakugo growls, “I’m gonna destroy you extra!”
Chuuya shoves his hands into his pockets, “Oh yeah? Try me.”
Dazai sallied on up to Todoroki. “Hey there! I sat next to you during class. Todoroki was it?”
Todoroki simply says, “I will win.”
Dazai smirks, his late night research coming in handy. “Oh, because your dad is Endeavor?”
Todoroki tensed. “Who told you that?”
Dazai shrugs, “I heard a rumor. So it’s true then? Wow, he must have trained you hard.”
Todoroki glares at him, not willing to entertain him anymore. Dazai takes the hint and wanders off to go watch the other matches.
Chuuya is up. He looks for Dazai amongst the students and spots him waving among the crowd. He wonders for a second why Dazai would change the test but soon gives up. It’s impossible to understand that guy.
Chuuya focuses his gaze back on Bakugo, who seems to be itching for a fight. Small explosions go off in his hands. Chuuya cracks his neck.
“Alright! Bakugo, Chuuya, go plus ultra!” All Might starts them off.
Bakugo lunges for Chuuya, but Chuuya is quicker. He uses gravity to soar over Bakugo and land an amplified kick to his back. Bakugo scowls, turning back around. Bakugo launches an explosion at Chuuya, who swiftly dodges into the air. Bakugo isn’t done, however, as he launches a second explosion at Chuuya. Chuuya, left unable to dodge, simply changes the gravity of the explosion, sending it hurtling back towards Bakugo. Bakugo, clearly caught off guard by the whole thing, can only send out another explosion to try to mitigate the first one. Chuuya takes that opportunity to soar back down and land an amplified kick straight to Bakugo’s chest. Bakugo is sent flying backwards, hitting the side of the arena with a thud.
All Might calls, “The winner is Chuuya!”
Bakugo slams his fist into the wall. “Dirty extra!”
Denki walks over to Chuuya. “Hey! Great match! Sorry about Bakugo. That’s kinda just how he is.”
Chuuya wipes the debris off his clothes. “No worries.”
A guy with red hair walks over. “Yo that fight was super manly!”
“Uh, thanks.” Chuuya isn’t used to people brimming with energy. The only people who really talks to are Dazai and Kouyou.
“I’m Kirishima. I can’t believe you beat Bakubro!”
Denki adds, “Yeah, where’d you learn to fight like that?”
Chuuya tries to think up an excuse. He thinks Dazai told him some cover story? Crap, he’s taking too long. “Uh…I learned how to fight on the streets. Life was hard, so we had to learn how to defend ourselves. It’s why I want to be a hero. I want to make sure no one else has to go through that.” He looks at their faces for a reaction.
Kirishima says, “Dude…that’s so manly of you!” Tears form in his eye as he jumps up to hug Chuuya.
Denki nods, “Yeah. I feel like my reasons kinda stupid now.”
Chuuya looks towards Dazai for support.
Dazai is sitting on the side of the arena, getting ready for his match. In theory, the matches were a great idea. Dazai doesn’t look suspicious for scoring low, and Chuuya’s win can be chocked up to beginners luck. No one would suspect they’ve had mafia training. At least, that was what was supposed to happen. Now Chuuya has formed his own fan club.
Dazai marched on over to Chuuya, grabbing him by the wrist. “Sorry, but I’ve gotta steal him for a second!”
Chuuya waves goodbye to the red and yellow duo as Dazai drags him off.
“Where are we going Dazai?” Chuuya asks as Dazai drags him over into a corner.
Dazai stands there with his arms crossed. “…stupid slug.”
Chuuya stares dumbfounded. “Huh?! What’d I even do? They came up to me!”
Dazai bops him on the hand. “Chibi is too dumb to understand. Stay here and watch my match.”
Dazai bounds away, leaving behind an ever confused Chuuya.
Dazai doesn’t really understand the growing feeling in his chest. It hurts, and he doesn’t like it. He didn’t like those boys climbing all over Chuuya. They don’t know him, so why are they acting like they do?
Dazai walks into the arena and waits for the countdown.
All Might yells, “Go!”
Dazai runs.

Chuuya watches as the usually inactive Dazai sprints towards Todoroki. Todoroki sends walls of ice towards him, but Dazai simply touches them and they disappear. His classmates watch in shock as he manages to reach Todoroki. He touches him, deactivating his ability. Todoroki also appears to be in shock. Chuuya then sees Dazai reach into his pocket.
“Dazai stop!” Chuuya yelled out, bringing Dazai back to his senses. Todoroki takes the momentary pause to start engaging Dazai in hand to hand combat. Dazai isn’t used to fighting in close combat—usually content to simply shoot at his enemies or have Chuuya deal with them—so he’s easily defeated.
Chuuya runs up to Dazai as All Might declares Todoroki as the winner. He grabs Dazai by the hand and leads him away.
When they’re in the hall, Chuuya stop and turns towards Dazai. “What the hell was that?! Were you trying to kill him?!”
Dazai sways on his heels. “Sorry.”
“Sorry?! I saw you! You were reaching for your knife!”
Dazai always carries multiple weapons on him at all times. However, the only one he could reasonably hide in a school uniform was a small knife.
Dazai is silent, so Chuuya calms down. “Sorry for yelling,” he says. “Just, don’t do that again.”
Dazai nods before falling forwards. Chuuya catches him in his arms.
Chuuya asks, “Hey, are you okay?!”
Dazai whimpers, “Don’t leave me.”
Chuuya pauses, before running his fingers through Dazai’s hair. “I won’t,” he answers.
“Liar,” was all Dazai could say.
