Chapter Text
Derek stared at the screen and felt teas flow freely from his eyes. This was it. He’d finally kill the King in Yellow, and Avery would be safe. Avery didn’t deserve it, being left alone after finally gaining companionship- but this was the only way.
He’d miss Avery. Despite knowing everything about the man, Derek still longed to see him in person once. To see his bright smile, to feel his soft light brown hair with green ends, to kiss him. He thinks he’d kill for those things. But he can’t have them- because he has to die. He has to die if he wants to kill Hastur.
He fought back a sob as he began vomiting thick ichor, trying not to think of Avery, and how despite knowing everything about Avery, he will never be held by Avery.
His head hurts from Hasture screaming in it. Demanding he undo the spell, even now.
He welcomes the silence, darkness, and numbness of finally seemingly dying.
What wasn’t supposed to happen next was for him to wake up in a bed that wasn’t his.
He also wasn’t supposed to be able to hear Hastur still screaming. Nor should he have been able to not know anything about what was going on. And from the sound of it, Hastur had no clue about what was going on either.
WHY IS IT THAT I LACK KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PLACE TOO? IT IS UNNATURAL. I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY UNIVERSE. THIS MUST BE YOUR FAULT.
How the hell was it Derek’s fault that the eldritch god couldn’t access any info about this place either? Not that Derek minded- since it meant he and the king were on equal operating levels right now.
YOU OPERATE NOWHERE NEAR MY LEVEL YOU FOOL. I AM EVERYTHING AND NOTHING. YOU ARE SIMPLY A MORTAL.
Derek suddenly wondered who managed to trap everything and nothing in his skull. That seemed to shut up the yellow king, and Derek looked around. This place still seemed like an apartment, but the cupboard lacked any of the things he put in them in his old apartment, the fridge had no food, there was nothing lining the walls, and there was a large balcony. The place, in general, looked like the apartment of a serial killer- and while he’d love to change that- he has bigger fish to fry.
He needs to kill the King in yellow for good- WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE- and get back to his Avery. Everything else he did here? Simply a means to an end. Which means there would be no decorating the apartment. Although he did need to change the curtains. The yellow was gross.
But to do that, he’d need money. And he’d also need to get some food. Maybe also more clothes. And for that? He’d sadly need to get a job. He opened the drawer of a few desks to see if he had anything, and was surprised to find a phone with a few apps on it- one notably being a dating sim for some reason, and another being Subway Surfers. There was also, however. A computer with the same apps and info on it as the computer he had back in his world. He decided to see if there was any place hiring near him first- after all, he needed money. There was one- it was a cafe. It seemed like it was well rated too. They needed one more employee, and Derek guessed it’d have to be him. He groaned while he applied for it. He hasn’t had to work for a while. This would not be fun.
Once he finished filling out his job application, he waited to see if he’d get any emails confirming anything. When he did, in less than an hour too, he was happy. He had an interview to go to tomorrow. Hopefully that meant he’d get to replace these putrid curtains soon. He’s thinking of buying green ones.
For a bit, he kinda just doomscrolled on the few apps and played games that he had on the phone. It felt nice, being able to look at something aside from that minecraft world.
Eventually though, he got bored.
Right now he wasn't really sure what to do. He guessed he could explore outside. Layout a map of areas he could see. He didn’t have any money in his bank account, which he did have access to at the least, but that meant he couldn’t buy anything while going out. Still, it’d be good to observe.
After going outside of the building, the first thing he noted was how grey everything felt. Despite there being more space than in normal cities, the areas felt limited, and only certain areas felt vibrant- as though it was only partially polished. Almost like a…
Oh no.
WHAT IS IT MORTAL? WHAT IS WRONG?
This was an interactive novel game. Which meant it was either a mystery game, horror game, or romance game. Maybe even all three from what he knew about this type of game.
WHY IN THE GODS’ NAMES WOULD THIS BE ALL THREE? HOW FOOLISH ARE YOU MORTALS?!
Sometimes, Derek could only wonder.
For now, he just had to wait it out- he had a feeling that there might be a way out… Maybe through completion of one of the game’s routes? But for that, he’d have to identify the love interests, which right now, he likely wouldn’t be able to find since everyone is grey.
