Work Text:

Alexis found herself once again sat on her bed, bored. Most evenings had been like this recently, with her not really having anyone to see. She was trying extra hard to ignore the feeling of loneliness tonight, undoubtedly brought on by her seeing Ted and Heather in the cafe that morning. Over the last few months, and especially since the whole barbeque incident, David was typically gone with Patrick in the evenings. This one was no different. While she was so happy for her brother (and Patrick, who she would never admit to liking as much as she does), a small part of her longed for their earlier days in Schitt’s Creek when they only had each other, all the time.

Before she could get anymore lost in thought, she heard a gentle knock on their door. She quickly went over to open it, blonde curls flying in all directions as she moved.

“Hi Alexis!” Patrick said keenly, polite as always, as the door opened. Alexis was always quietly pleased by how polite and friendly Patrick was to her and the rest of the roses. She couldn’t help but compare him to most of David’s exes who had either been rude or just plain ignored her.

They made polite conversation about their respective days before moving to a comfortable silence for a moment. Patrick was gently tapping his fingers against the wall as Alexis went back to painting her nails. She thought it was sweet how Patrick’s eyes were constantly shooting towards the bathroom door that David was clearly behind.

The bathroom door swung open and David emerged, already mid-sentence. “I just want to say, if you are also going to use the stores skincare products, could you please label -”

He stopped when he saw Patrick, and something in his whole posture softened, just slightly, but enough that Alexis noticed immediately.

“Hey, handsome,” Patrick said, with the fondest grin Alexis had ever seen, decorating his face.

“Hey, sorry to keep you waiting” David responded shyly, making his way over to him.

Patrick pulled him in for a quick kiss, still looking delighted to see the man he had spent literally all day with at the store. “Ew,” Alexis teased, despite finding this whole interaction strangely sweet.

Patrick tilted his head, eyes travelling up and down David’s body, taking him in and not even trying to hide it. “You look really nice.”

David’s expression flickered, a cross between suspicion and relief. “This?” he said, gesturing vaguely at himself. “Um thanks, you look very nice too.” David paused before adding “So nice to see you in something that isn’t Brewer Blue”. David ran his hand over Patrick’s green sweater, teasing and lightening the mood. Patrick just laughed and pulled David in for a longer kiss this time, very much forgetting that Alexis was still sat a mere few feet away.

“Like seriously, i’m still here” Alexis snarled without any real heat behind it. David rolled his eyes as Patrick apologised.

“Are you ready to go?” Patrick asked.

“Mmm” David nodded, lacing his fingers with Patrick’s.

The two men left, already caught up again in soft glances before Patrick turned slightly. “Bye Alexis, have a good night!” She just replied with a smile and wave.

As they left, Alexis still transfixed on this interaction, mindlessly went over to the window. She watched as Patrick jokingly held the door open for David, which seemed to make her brother chuckle fondly. Too many romcoms that David has forced upon him she thought to herself, poor Patrick. Alexis suddenly felt the presence of her father in the room.

“Hey, sweetheart” he said, breaking the silence.

“They’re, like… really in love,” she said, a little quieter than usual, completely ignoring his greeting.

Johnny smiled gently, immediately understanding what she meant. “Seems that way.”

Alexis watched the as the parking spot emptied for another second before turning away.

“Okay,” she said, shaking it off just enough to sound like herself again. “Um, ew, what are you doing in my room.”

Johnny blinked. “Just came in to let you know we’re gonna head out to the cafe and that your mother has requested your presence.”

“Yeah,” Alexis sighed, already going to put her bells back on. “If I must.”

Although the thought of a solo dinner with her parents was making her want to drag her brother right out of the car and to the cafe to endure this trauma too, she couldn’t help but feel happy for him. In this bizarre town, David had found someone who made him truly happy. As she headed into her parent’s room, she smiled to herself, suddenly feeling slightly hopeful that she might find the same
