the jamikali route

Summary:

The new game in the Twisted-Wonderland series marks the introduction of a new mechanic: friendship routes with unromanceable characters. This, of course, sparks some discussion on the Internet. Seriously, what were they thinking, locking one of the most popular characters into a friendship-only route?!

Or: A few posts in an alternate universe where twst is a romance game and yet you can't romance either Jamil or Kalim. Instead, you're some sort of wing(wo)man.

Notes:

Yes, it's me playing with work skins again. A big super huge thank you to my patient friend who helped me when I needed to tweak the CSS for the AO3 skin.

Without work skins on, this fic will be unreadable. It looks better on desktop/desktop mode!

The game system is very tokimemo-like if that helps some people see what I'm talking about.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Twisted-Wonderland (Japanese: ツイステッドワンダーランド, Hepburn: Tsuisuteddo Wandārando)[1] is a dating simulation series by Aniplex. It consists of two games, with a third being announced for 20XX. The series has seen great reception for being nonlinear and its vivid narration[citation needed]. An anime series television adaptation is set to premiere in Japan in October 20XX. The series nickname among the fans is the contraction TSWT.

The gameplay in Twisted-Wonderland focuses on scheduling, dating, and stat-building. As of the second game, Twisted-Wonderland: Four Seasons With You, a friendship mechanic[2], akin to the dating one, has also been implemented. The player has limited time to allocate between raising their affinity meter with members of the cast and developing the player character's ability and skills with the goal of meeting different stat check points during the course of the game. One playthrough lasts for a fixed period of one year of high school (on the order of 15-20 hours of play). At the end of each playthrough, the character with the highest affinity meter will either confess their love to the player or ask for them to be their friend forever.

Plot

A young high school student (named "Yuu" by default) is summoned to another world by a magic mirror and arrives at a magical school, Night Raven College. Yuu becomes acquainted with the school's top students, each in seven different dormitories, and bonds with them as they discover the secrets of this world. During the year they attend Night Raven College, they have to undergo trials and uncover mysteries while relying on the friendships they forged with the characters, while searching for a way home.

Games List

Twisted-Wonderland: In Another World With You

The first game released in the series where the player has the possibility to interact with various characters. However, the only ones who are considered main non-playable characters and are romanceable are the first-years. A secret character named Ortho is unlocked after the player completes a playthrough and is subsequently involved in new events.

Twisted-Wonderland: Four Seasons With You

The second game released in the series follows the same plot as Twisted-Wonderland: In Another World With You with new seasonal events. The cast the player can interact with this time is composed of the second-years who were background characters in the first game. This is also the opus that introduces the friendship mechanic, making a few characters unromanceable, which provoked a minor scandal at the time of release[editorializing].
