Work Text:
When Atsushi opened his eyes, the light from the room was so bright it made him wince.
"Are you okay, Atsushi-kun?"
"I've been better," Atsushi replied as Dazai helped him to sit up in the bed. He really would prefer it if Yosano would just let his healing ability do its job instead of using hers. He never liked the way hers made him feel afterwards.
Dazai gently squeezed Atsushi's hand. "I'm sorry. If my plan had been more arcuate, you wouldn't have been hurt."
Atsushi caressed Dazai's cheek. "It's not your fault, Dazai-san. Things don't always go as planned, so you can't beat yourself up because of it." He knew more than anyone how much extra thought Dazai put into his plans when they included him.
"Yeah, but still doesn't mean I like seeing you hurt," Dazai mumbled as he leaned into his boyfriend's touch. Even knowing about Atsushi's healing ability, it never did ease his worry. "I'd better get Yosano-sensei," he said before kissing Atsushi's forehead.
Not even a minute after Dazai left, the door flew open, and a voice blurted, "Atsushi, you're awake."
"Chuuya-san?" Atsushi was shocked to see the Port Mafia executive here and seemed to have a look of worry on his face.
Chuuya ruffled Atsushi's hair as he took a seat next to the bed. "Don't scare me like that again," he pleaded, softly.
Atsushi stared at him, confused. Why would he being hurt scare Chuuya? That made no sense to him.
"How are you feeling?" Chuuya asked.
"I'm all healed," Atsushi replied awkwardly.
Chuuya frowned. "That doesn't answer my question." His phone pinged, and he sighed when he read the message. "I'm sorry. I have to go. Mori-san wants a debrief about how the mission went," he explained.
"It's okay." Atsushi really didn't understand why the redhead was here in the first place. He's pretty sure he's only had two conversations with Chuuya before, and it wasn't about anything noteworthy. Atsushi's eyes widened when Chuuya leaned over and kissed him.
"Call me if you need anything," Chuuya whispered against Atsushi's lips.
All Atsushi could do was nod. His cheeks felt like they were on fire. He couldn't believe that Chuuya kissed him like it was a normal thing to do. The worst thing was that he liked it. Atsushi shook his head in an attempt to forget all about it. The executive must be trying to mess with him to get to Dazai. He'll have to tell Dazai about it when he gets back. Atsushi then reached for his phone and froze when he saw the date 'April 9th'. That couldn't be right? It was September. Atsushi suddenly felt sick with guilt. What if this meant he had been cheating on Dazai? No. That wasn't possible, but that would explain how Chuuya acted. He was about to reach for his phone and check his text messages when Yosano and Dazai walked.
Yosano smiled at Atsushi when she asked, "How are you feeling, Atsushi?"
Atsushi couldn't stop himself from lying. "I'm okay, Yosano-sensei." How could he mention his memory loss when he had just found he had been cheating on his boyfriend?
"Are you sure? You're a bit red."
"Y-yeah," Atsushi silently cursed himself for stuttering.
Dazai rolled his eyes and muttered, "chibi."
Atsushi was confused about what Dazai meant by 'chibi,' but Yosano didn't question it.
Yosano examined Atsushi, and when she had finished, she said, "Right, you can go home once you take it easy, Atsushi."
"I'll make sure of it," Dazai declared.
Yosano raised an eyebrow at the brunet. "Skipping work?"
"What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't?" Dazai was going to ensure that Atsushi took it easy and wouldn't let them return to work until he was well rested.
Yosano chuckled. "Kunikida probably already guessed you would."
Dazai sighed, dreamily, and placed his hand over his heart. "He knows of my love for Atsushi-kun."
Atsushi felt like jumping out the window at that moment. How did he mess up the relationship with the person he loved more than anything else? More importantly, how was he going to tell Dazai that he had been cheating on him and with Chuuya of all people?
Atsushi was currently pacing in Dazai's dorm. The brunet had left a while ago to get groceries because there was nothing in the fridge, and he wanted to make Atsushi some chazuke. The kindness made Atsushi feel even worse, which he hadn't thought was possible. He was trying to come up with a way to tell Dazai about Chuuya, but thinking about it made him feel sick.
"Atsushi?"
Atsushi froze and turned towards the door, and saw Chuuya standing there. What was he doing here? Had they really been that shameless to meet at Dazai's dorm? Dazai trusted him more than anyone, and that's how Atsushi repaid him?
"You okay?" Chuuya asked as he reached out to Atsushi, but was confused when Atsushi jumped back.
"Atsushi-kun?"
Atsushi looked over at Dazai in a panic. He really couldn't handle this. "I'm sorry, Dazai-san," he cried.
Dazai was by Atsushi's side in an instant, wrapping his arms protectively around him. "What are you sorry about, Atsushi-kun?" he asked quietly.
"I d-don't remember how it s-started, but I'm so s-sorry," Atsushi stammered. He wouldn't even attempt to ask Dazai for forgiveness or give him a second chance.
Dazai pulled back from Atsushi, confused and worried. He gently cupped his cheeks and wiped away the tears from his face. "Everything is okay, Atsushi-kun."
Atsushi's eyes darted over to Chuuya and muttered, "No, it's not."
"Chuuya?" Dazai questioned the redhead when he noticed the look Atsushi gave him.
"I don't know." Chuuya couldn't think of any reason why Atsushi would be upset with him.
"I'm cheating on you with Chuuya-san," Atsushi sobbed.
There was silence for a few moments before Dazai uttered, "That would make sense."
What Atsushi expected to happen was for Dazai to kick him out of his dorm, but he was startled when he hugged him instead.
"Breath for me, Atsushi-kun."
Atsushi hadn't thought it was possible for him to feel worse because how was it that Dazai was the one comforting him?
"What was the name of the criminal we were after during the last mission you remember?" Dazai inquired when Atsushi got his breathing under control.
"Kaigo?"Atsushi didn't understand what that had to do with anything. That wouldn't change the fact that he had been seeing Chuuya behind his back.
"That was three months before we started dating Chuuya," Dazai explained softly.
"W-what?"
"Oh…" Chuuya said. "I knew something was off, but I didn't even consider memory loss."
"You're serious?" Atsushi couldn't believe it.
"I wouldn't lie to you about this, Atsushi-kun," It broke Dazai's heart to see how distressed Atsushi must have been because he thought he was having an affair. "You should've mentioned you had memory loss."
"I panicked. I thought I was cheating on you." Being in a polyamorous relationship would never have crossed Atsushi's mind.
"I can leave if that would make you more comfortable, Atsushi?" Chuuya offered. He didn't want Atsushi to feel like he couldn't relax with him around.
Atsushi looked over at Chuuya and blushed. "Y-you don't have to," he stuttered. He then hid his face in Dazai's chest.
Dazai laughed at Atsushi's reaction. "I forgot how flustered he used to get around you, slug."
Chuuya rolled his eyes, but that didn't hide the fact that his cheeks were slightly flushed. "Leave him alone, and shouldn't you call your doctor?"
"Yeah, she'd be mad if we didn't inform her about this," Dazai said as he reluctantly left Atsushi go. He then smiled and kissed his forehead. "After we can tell you about how we got together with Chuuya."
All Atsushi could do was nod as he was completely overwhelmed by his emotions. He should've trusted himself that he would never cheat on Dazai. He was very curious about how they ended up dating a Port Mafia executive.
