// July 4th, 1985 // The Breakup At Starcourt. //
" I dump your ass."
Eleven and Max walked away as Mike was flabbergasted.
" Mike... Are you---"
" I'm fine. Totally fine." Mike said sarcastically.
" Do I look fine Will?"
" I just thought to check up on you, y'know.. Because you and El just broke up and stuff, I was just trying to help---"
" Do you ever shut up Will? "
"... Sorry.. " Will said, blinking back tears.
Mike had just realized what he had said and turned to Will.
" Will, I--- "
" Its ok Mike. " Will said, starting to walk away.
" I'm gonna go.."
" Shit. "
Will had ran out of the mall with his eyes blurry with tears.
Before he had even gotten to his bike, he had bumped into another group of people first.
" Will? Holy shit what happened?"
sniffle, " I-I was just trying to comfort Mike a-and he was just b-being mean.." Will said between sobs.
" What did Mike do..?" El said comfortingly.
" He was j-just being a jerk and told m-me to shut up.."
" He said WHAT?" Max said.
" Can I c-cool off with you guys...? " Will said with glossy eyes.
" Ok Will. " El said, smiling.
" Yeah you can hang with me, El has to go back home. Her curfew is right now. " Max said while wiping Will's tears and gesturing to El waving away.
" T-thanks Max... " Will said, finally peaking a smile.
" No problem! Now lets go back, I got something for you! " Max said, pulling Will to the mall.
" Wait! My bike! " Will said.
" Oh! Just put it in the trunk. " Max said, letting go of Will's hand so he could get his bike.
Will got his bike and put it in the trunk before going back into the mall.
This was gonna be a good weekend.
" I'm fucked."
" Yeah, you kind of are, Mike." Lucas said bluntly.
Mike sighed and flopped onto the couch with his head in his palms.
" So.. How are you gonna get back with El---"
" I'm not thinking about El, I'm thinking about Will."
" Oh... Uhm.. "
" Yeah your kinda screwed.. " Lucas said, rubbing his arm.
" Yeah no shit. " Mike said, still gloomy.
" So... Should we go and try to aplogize...?" Lucas says, sitting next to Mike on the couch.
" ... Yeah. Sure... " Mike said, unenthusiastically.
This was gonna be a terrible weekend.
" So, first things first, Will." Max said, pulling Will to the eye doctor.
" You need glasses. Because no offense, but you can't really see all that well. "
" You okay with that, Will? " Max said, standing with Will at the entrance.
Sigh. " Yeah. Lets do it. "

After the eye exam, Will had gotten black glasses with a white flower clip and a golden chain with beads as accessories.
" Thought the accessories would look good with the glasses. You can come back and replace them or get more if you want, heres the number if you need to schedule another appointment." The eye doctor said, packing up the stuff and giving Will a card with the number for another appointment and other locations.
" Thanks. " Will said bluntly.
As Will had gotten out, Max's eyes widened as she saw the bowl cut brunette with black glasses.
" Who are you and what have you done to my best friend?" Max said jokingly.
Will looked confuzzled.
" I was joking, Byers." Max said with a laugh.
" Ok no but honestly you look awesome." Max finished, patting him on the back.
" Thanks Max! " Will said with a smile.
" Now---" Max said, grabbing Will's hand.
" Lets go give you a full body makeover!" She said while laughing, pulling the brunette to a graphic tee store.
Mike and Lucas walk to the art store: looking for an apology gift to give to Will.
" What should we get for Will?" Lucas said, looking around the colorful store.
" Probably some new paints... Canvases... Sketchbooks... Paintbrushes... Coloured pencils---"
" Mike. "
Mike turned around to look at his unamused friend crossing his arms and looking at him bluntly. Does he know..?
" Do you... Like Will?"
" WHAT! Nonononononono, I'm not..." Mike trailed off.
" Gay?" Lucas said, still unamused.
" Yeah.... Yeah what you said."
" Mike, theres nothing wrong with being gay, if you are gay." Lucas said, picking up a pastel paint pallette before putting it back down and looking for more vibrant colors.
" I... I think I am.. Kind of." Mike said, avoiding eye contact with the dark-skinned boy, browsing the sketchbooks before settling on a sunflower sketchbook with a vanilla yellow cover and a smiling sun in the top right hand corner. Will would love that. Mike thought. Or would he? He contradicted before placing it back down, conscious of what Will would think of it.
" Thats fine by me, Mike. I'm an ally, anyway." Lucas said, shrugging it off. He had found a 64 colored pallette, with every normal warm, cool, tone, tint, and pastel color. It was in a white case with a patch on the bottom so that Will could write his name on it.
" Should we check out?" Lucas said, walking to the cashier and stopping, waiting for Mike.
" I... Don't know. I'm still figuring stuff out."
" Its ok, take your time." Lucas said, browsing at the cashier for add-ons.
After Mike had spent a unreasonably long amount of time finding some paintbrushes and pencils for Will, he finally found some he thought Will would like.
Fuck it we ball. He thought.
" I think I'm ready, Lucas. " Mike said, finding a collection of colorful pens and pencils before making his way to the cashier aswell.
" Glad you finally came to terms with it, Mike. "
" Yeah, I am too. "
