Chapter Text
1.
Roronoa Zoro, one of the most sought after men in all of Grand Line University.
Conventionally attractive, captain of the baseball team and an international representative of East Blue in Kendo.
Not to mention being the son of Dracule Mihawk, dubbed the greatest swordsman in the world according to multiple world records.
Who also single handedly controls most, if not all, of the world’s most prestigious wineries in the industry, meaning he and his family were also loaded.
He is brutish, rough around the edges, with a cold exterior and an air of mystery around him that others find strangely alluring.
With a background like that, you begin to question if he’s
even real.
The girls can’t help falling head over heels for him, while the guys look up to him with respect and are always scrambling to get his attention.
That same Zoro is also Nami and Luffy’s childhood best friend, who is now late once again, because of the same lame excuse.
He couldn’t find their designated table at the cafeteria.
The same table they’ve been sitting at since junior high school.
Considering they are now in their second year of college with the exception of Chopper who is still a first year, his friends question his existence for a completely different reason.
While the world looks at Zoro with awe, his friends look at him with disbelief and sometimes even pity, knowing all too well just how much of an idiot he actually is.
While he is brutish, he is not at all cold. It's more like awkwardness masked as indifference.
His rough exterior is all for show, more for protecting those he holds close and of course for the kendo championships.
And despite the cold and heartless allegations, he is caring and thoughtful, in his own little mildly aggressive way.
They’ve known him since diapers, with their families being close family friends.
Luffy’s grandfather Monkey D. Garp is a military general closely associated with Zoro’s father, Dracule Mihawk.
They met when Mihawk was still working in the military, a little before he decided to dominate the wine industry.
As for Nami, her mom Bellemere also worked closely with Garp as lieutenant general when she was still in the military.
Similarly, she also quit and switched to business. Building and investing in an agribusiness corporation. Which is why she also happens to be Mihawks main fruit distributor.
And of course to follow in their footsteps, both Nami and Zoro took courses related to business. Zoro is taking
Economics while Nami is taking Accountancy.
As for Luffy he is taking Ecology, mostly because he heard they would talk about bugs in that course.
The straw hat crew, as they have now deemed the official name for their friend group as per Luffy’s insistence, are happily sitting at their table during lunch.
On the table were Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Chopper and Ussop, the usual group, with the exception of Zoro who hasn’t shown up yet.
Which was not an uncommon occurrence.
He is probably lost in another room, building, or city for all they know, with his miraculous sense of direction.
How he managed to attend his classes on time is beyond what any of them can comprehend.
“Zoro, we're over here!” Chopper calls out when they finally see the mop of green hair within the crowd.
Zoro turns to look and starts walking toward them with an annoyed expression on his face.
He placed his food down with a heavy thunk.
“You guys need to stop moving tables” he mumbled while glaring at everyone, blaming them for his lateness.
The group turned to look at him with deadpanned expressions, except for Luffy who seemed to find the situation hilarious.
“We always sit here, you’re such an idiot Zoro” Luffy replied while giggling, downing half his plate already.
“I don’t think you have the right to say that Luffy” Nami scoffed, crossing her arms as she looked at Luffy.
With Zoro present, the crew continued eating and chatting, mostly about school work and certain professors they hated.
Zoro was quietly finishing his meal, nodding along and smiling with the crew like normal.
That is until he took a glance around the cafeteria and got a glimpse of something that made him stop mid chew.
Across from their table are Kid and Killer, they’ve been sitting there for almost the same time as the straw hats, peacefully eating and talking.
Well, that was until they started making out, if he can even call it that, it was more like they were mauling each other’s faces off.
“I think I just threw up in my mouth” Zoro’s voice cut through the conversations, placing a hand to his mouth as he feigned retching.
His friends looked at him then later looked at whatever it was that caused his reaction.
Ussop gasped audibly as Sanji covered Chopper's eyes instinctively protecting his innocence, his own eyes bulging in surprise.
Nami stammers something along the lines of “ah- a”, Luffy is still eating.
“They’re so shameless”, Zoro’s words ringed loudly in the already busy cafeteria, his brows furrowed, crossing his arms.
His friends looked back at him with the same disbelief they had towards Kid and Killer just a moment before.
They know Zoro can be blunt, but something about how he said those words just did not feel right to them.
“I think they're brave” Sanji sputters out, his voice came out a little forced, like he was trying to think of something better to say but came up short.
“Can they be brave somewhere else? People are trying to eat here.” he continues, his voice gruff pointing at his food, exaggerating his moves to make a point.
This time the table went completely quiet, except for the sound of Luffy chewing, who was still eating.
Ussop and Nami gave each other knowing looks and Sanji just stayed quiet, staring at him with a calculating look.
“Umm.. well, anyway do you guys remember that time I-“ Ussop is the first to break the silence, a trickle of sweat sliding down his temple as he tries to redirect the conversation.
And it worked, the group awkwardly resumes eating and Zoro does too like there was nothing wrong in the world.
—————[Zoro’s Perspective]—————
Zoro is not a conservative man by any means but the way they were literally sucking each other's faces off in public and also the fact that it was people who are relatively close to him, seeing it felt like they should pay him for emotional damages.
He was very appalled, of course, not at all jealous of the idea that someone can just freely express their love like that. He sneaks a glance towards a certain blonde and his mood soured even more, aggressively shoving everything in his mouth.
