Work Text:
Rocky made his way towards Grace's house, feeling the gentle motion of the water only a few feet away. He sensed the gentle breeze and the background hum of the massive overhead lights.
As he approached the small house, though, something began to nag at him. Some missing sound. It wasn't until he was a few feet away that he was bothered enough to stop and simply listen.
The waves. The breeze. The hum.
Nothing else.
Humans, even sleeping ones, were noisy to Eridian senses. Their hearts, their stomachs, the blood in their veins, all of it formed a quiet symphony of sounds that Eridians recognized as 'Human'.
Rocky tapped the ground to hear better. Everything got louder, brighter, sharper. But nothing changed. Tap tap tap. Tap tap tap!
Nothing.
He could sense Grace's shape in his bed but nothing else. None of the usual sounds of a living human.
Rocky didn't bother to knock, simply shattering the door in his haste to get to his friend.
He chittered and purred his distress when he found Grace's body.
Rocky had lost loved ones before, but never in his entire life had he understood the human need to cry, until now.
