Why the floor?
Because stubborn as he is, the increasing risk of falling out of bed and doing serious damage to himself was greater than his pride. He's curled up next to one of the panels of Rocky's habitat, and Rocky sits on just the other side of the xenonite. Rocky rarely leaves his side now. It must be very boring for him, watching Grace just lie here.
Lying down hurts, but it's the only thing he can do.

Summary
Rocky had nearly sacrificed himself to save his friend, but Grace wouldn't let him. After dragging him back to the airlock between the Eridian and human sides of the ship, a bit of over-engineering risks the whole mission.
When Rocky wakes up, he finds Grace in the airlock with him. As awful as it already is, there's also something horribly wrong with his body.
