Chapter Text
“Spoke..?” The demon hybrid had his sword halfway through the null soldier’s his best friend’s stomach, “You’re, you’re working with them?” he forced the words out, “Why? You betrayed me. I,” he swallowed, “I trusted you.”
“No! I’m not!” Spoke cried then groaned from the pain, “Please Mapicc!” The voidling below him was dying and if Mapicc didn’t help soon he would be gone. Forever. “It’s him. He’s the one that betrayed us. Not me!”
“You killed him. Why?” Mapicc could see tears welling in Spoke’s eyes. The color draining out of his face. His eyes didn’t have the shine they usually did, they were almost grey, no longer the glowing white Mapicc was used to.
“He’s not dead! Can’t you see? He can’t die!” he winced, “I had no choice. We would all be captured if I didn’t get rid of him.” He sobbed. “Please believe me.”
“Were you the one to spawn the nether portals?” Mapicc looked down, tears forming. “The ones that led null to Emma's village?” Spoke looked away. “Tell me!” Mapicc slightly pushed the sword up.
Spoke cried out. It broke Mapicc’s heart to hear that sound, and do all of this but he needed answers. “I,” He nodded, “The first one that led them there.” Spoke looked back up at him, “I’m sorry May, I never wanted anyone to get hurt."
“Except him it seems.” Mapicc muttered.
“Yes!” Spoke slammed his eyes shut, the pain was too much, “Because he’s the one causing our problems! He’s the one hurting people! Why can’t you see that? How do you think null found us? How did the stash get robbed in less than a minute? Can’t you see?”
“You led null to us! You spawned the portal! And now Jumper’s gone, Planet’s gone, and it’s your fault!”
“You think I did this? May, it’s him! Why don’t you believe me?” Spoke had tears streaming down his face. “Mapicc.” He gasped. Mapicc needed to do something soon if he was ever gonna see this voidling again. “Please.” His voice was weak, barely a whisper.
“I need answers, true answers, not lies.” Mapicc had a potion of healing in his inventory, he could throw it right now, he could save both of them. It was hard not to. Spoke had been with him for over 100 years now, he couldn’t just let his best friend die.
“I’m not lying, he gave me a book, saying how you and Jumper would turn on me, that I’ll never find the players. That was the book I tried to give you!” He said, “The one he picked up before either of you could read it! The one in the kits he gave us! I promise, I hadn’t seen the other one you two got!”
“That’s why you were trying to give it to us, without him around.” It made sense to Mapicc. If it had been a normal note like the one him and Jumper had gotten, there really was no point in showing it to them.
Spoke got a hopeful look in his eyes, “Yes! Yes! Exactly! May I haven’t lied about anything, all this is the truth.”
“Alright,” Mapic made the decision. He grabbed the red potion out of his inventory and splashed it, making sure it hit Spoke. He looked up at Mapicc with wide eyes. “I’m not leaving here alone,” Spoke sobbed again, this time with relief. “And I am definitely not letting you die, no matter what you’ve done.” Mapicc grabbed the bandages he kept with him just in case, “Okay, this is gonna hurt.” He gripped the hilt of his sword, looked to Spoke for approval, who nodded. Mapicc pulled it out then immediately stopped the bleeding with the bandages.
“Mapicc,” he was breathing more normally now, “You, you saved me.” Mapicc picked his head up, he was done wrapping the bandages in a way Spoke would be able to walk with the help of Mapicc and stop the bleeding.
“Of course I did. If you’re not lying, then I’d just let you die, for no reason. Spoke we’ve been friends for over 100 years now, you’ve been through everything with me, you think I’m gonna let you die that easily? I’m sorry, for everything.” He planted a small kiss on Spoke’s head. “Now, we rest for a bit then we’ll get outta here.”
Spoke grabbed his arm, “No, we have to go now,” His eyes no longer hopeful, they were filled with fear, “Null’s coming.”
Mapicc spun around, looking for any signs of the nether portals, there was nothing he could see, “Where? I don’t see anyone, no portals.” Spoke had gone quiet. He turned back to face him. “Spoke?” His eyes were shut, not moving at all. “Spoke!” He dropped to the ground next to him, he was still breathing, thanks gods.
“I can sense them,” He opened his eyes and lifted his hand, pointing east, “They're coming from that way. ”
“How? What do you mean you can sense them?”
“Not them, Jamato. He has null soldiers that way. Wait, hold on.” Spoke shut his eyes again. “They’re talking. They have soldiers that way as well.” He moved his hand south. His eyes flew open, “They know we're here. Exactly where we are.”
“How far away are they?” Mapicc didn’t know how they knew where they were, same as how he didn’t know how Spoke knew where they were.
“About a five minute walk, they don’t have speed. Do we?” He turned up towards Mapicc.
“Yeah but you are barely ready to walk, let alone run.” Mapicc was not going to let his best friend he’d just saved die because of some stupid hunters.
“Well then what are we gonna do?” Spoke crossed his arms. “And before you say it, there is no way you’re taking them on alone. There’s no way we can hide, they will be able to find us, no matter what. We have to move, and stay moving.”
“You are doing nothing,” Mapicc started.
“Hell no, you’re not doing anything either. I’m not letting you die after just saving me. Four minutes. We have to go, I’ll be fine.”
“No you won’t, I’m fighting these guys off. You are staying right here.”
“No! Definitely not!” Spoke pouted and tried to stand. Mapicc grabbed his arm to steady him.
“Nope. Back down you go.” Spoke, reluctantly, sat back down.
“Fine, you run, it’s me he wants. He’ll leave you alone if he thinks you’ve left me.“
“But then I would be leaving you. And you’d be getting captured. Not happening.”
“Yes it is, because you’re leaving. Now! You’re not safe with me. He knows where I am. Not you. Get outta here!” Spoke closed his eyes. “Go! While I can’t see you. He can’t know.”
Mapicc crouched next to Spoke, “I’m not leaving you,” He put a hand on Spoke’s arm. “If we go, we go together. I don’t care if it’s dangerous.”
He locked eyes with Mapicc. “Fine, but only if we go now.”
“Deal.” Anything to stay with him. He helped Spoke up, “Good?”
Spoked nodded, “Speed.” Mapicc splashed the light blue potion, giving them speed II for eight minutes. Spoke whimpered, “I can hear them. They're talking about us. Bad things”
“Hey, look at me. It’ll be okay, try to drown them out.” Mapicc put his arm around Spoke’s waist. They started walking, away from null and Jamato.
