Work Text:
As Nightwing stood at the edge of the rooftop, peering down at the street below, his earpiece crackled to life.
"Hello?" a voice came through.
"...Red Hood? Is that you?" asked Dick.
"Mhm" said Jason.
"What is it?"
"Nothin'" said Jason, voice slurred.
"Uh-huh" said Dick, squinting. "Where are you?"
"Safehouse."
Dick was already on the move to the Jason's nearest one. He tried to keep Jason talking but the line seemed to go dead.
Approaching the building Dick could see the shine of a red helmet on the fire escape. He grappled over to it.
Jason sat slumped over beside the large window.
"Hey" said Jason.
"Hey" said Dick. Looking closer, Dick could see a crack and a dent in the side of Jason's helmet. "Yikes, Hood. What got you?"
"Metal pipe."
"A metal pipe?"
Dick kneeled down and, slowly, lifted Jason's helmet off of him. It took Jason a moment for his eyes to focus. One pupil was larger than the other.
"Jay..."
Suddenly a noise came from behind the window. Dick grabbed an eskrima stick from his back and opened it, flipping the switch on the wall.
The lights turned on and Tim stared back, his hand holding a spoon of macaroni and cheese frozen on the way to his mouth.
"Tim? What are you doing here?" asked Dick.
"What are you doing here?" asked Tim.
"Checking on Jason, who - what happened to your arm?"
Tim scratched the bloodied bandages around his left bicep. "Knife."
"A knife?"
"Comes with the territory, you know how it is. What happened to him?"
"Pipe" slurred Jason.
"Right" said Dick. "Let's get you inside."
Dick helped Jason through the window and to the couch. Jason rubbed his head.
"Probably a concussion" said Dick. "Ideally, you'd get medical help-"
"No hospital" said Jason.
"Of course" said Dick, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"What about the cave?" asked Tim.
"No Bruce" said Jason.
Dick sighed. "Well, the least you can do is rest. Get some sleep."
"Can't. You die" said Jason.
"That's a myth" said Tim.
"Yeah. Hey, why don't you move to your bed? You'll be more comfortable" said Dick.
Jason just let himself be led to the bedroom. Dick helped him out of his jacket and shoes and removed his weapons. He laid Jason back and pulled the blanket up. Tim chuckled.
"So what about you?" asked Dick, turning to Tim.
"Yeah, I guess I better get going" said Tim.
"You should stay. It's 3 AM and you're hurt" said Dick, eyeing Tim's bandages and bruises.
"I guess. But if I take the couch then you-"
"Nuh uh" said Jason. He patted the bed beside himself. "Sleep."
Tim and Dick looked at each other. Tim shrugged. He flopped on the bed and yawned.
Dick got a chair from the kitchen and set it beside the bed.
"Seriously?" said Tim.
"Just keeping an eye out" said Dick. He sat down and crossed his arms. In a few minutes Jason and Tim were out. Dick kept watch but eventually felt his own eyes drooping.
A couple of hours later Jason cracked open his eyes and propped himself up slowly. He looked to his right.
Tim slept on the bed beside Jason, drooling slightly. Jason nudged him and glared.
"What. Are you doing in my bed."
"Huh?" said Tim, rubbing his eyes. "Oh, you don't remember? You were totally-"
A snore came from Jason's left and he turned his head. Dick was at his bedside, sleeping in a chair with his neck hanging uncomfortably. Jason's expression softened a bit. He sighed.
"It's too early for this" he said, laying back down. "Just go back to sleep."
"You-"
"Before I change my mind."
