Work Text:
Ilya was tough, he was strong, built and buff. This was all physical though, mentally, he was weak, weak when it came to seeing his little girl in a vulnerable situation, like in Mason Grady Hunter's lap clearly dry humping one another. All he wanted to do was let them know that lunch was getting started and to come down and help set up. He swung the door expecting to see Sofia and Mason sitting on her bed reading, or playing on their phones across the room from one another, as he had seen many times before. However, seeing his daughter with her back facing to him, and seeing Mason’s lustful face aimed towards his daughter left him seething with rage. Ilya was known to be calm and collected in most situations, which is exactly what he did, he had shut the door, a little bit abruptly, but he used his calm and stern voice to tell them to collect themselves and then come outside.
He was rather appalled at his daughter’s horrible taste in men. I mean, there had to be nice men in Ottawa, why did his daughter not try and pursue them instead. It almost felt like a cruel joke, of course the universe was cursing him. He had made one too many jokes about Scott Hunter, and now Sofia would be subjected to the Grady-Hunter family forever. To make matters worse, he would have to see them all the time now. For their wedding, when they have kids, all the holidays too.
Then there was telling Shane, as Ilya was walking down the hallway, Shane had entered asking where they were. He tried his best to keep his composure.
“I just saw our daughter in Mason’s lap, dry humping.” He mumbled.
“What!” Shane yelled. “Surely you’re lying, this is a prank right?”
“I would not joke about such serious things, Shane.” He replied.
“What did you say?”
“I closed the door immediately and asked them to get decent and then come downstairs.”
“What do we do?”
“We kill Scott Hunter, and then his son.”
“Ilya, please be serious. Are they even in a relationship, she never said anything. Maybe Scott and Kip know.”
“They better not, if they knew and did not tell me, this would make it so much worse.”
As they went downstairs, Shane felt a slight unease at knowing that his daughter was still upstairs, probably thinking that her fathers are so disappointed in her for doing something like this. Although he is disappointed, he is more worried about the fact that he didn’t notice anything off about his daughter, is it possible that this is a one time thing and she did not even know that something like this was going to happen, somehow that seems worse to him, he knows how much she likes to prepare for important moments.
They see Scott, Kip, Troy and Harris circling the kitchen island with a beer in hand. Shane sheepishly asks if Troy and Harris mind going to the theatre and staying with the kids while they discuss some things with Scott and Kip. All he got were nods and they left the kitchen, Shane could hear cheers from the theatre knowing that the kids loved talking with Harris, and now they had his undivided attention.
“What’s going on?” Kip asks.
Shane replies “Well, um, Ilya happened to see something in Sofia’s room.”
Scott raises an eyebrow. “Rozanov, what did you see?”
“They were…doing things, dry humping to be exact. I heard noises I will need to bleach out of my ears.” He sighs.
“Oh my god, what?” Kip giggles “I can’t believe this, while everyone is literally downstairs?”
Scott continues to raise an eyebrow, now aimed at Kip. “How are you laughing at this, I can’t believe he would do such a thing. What are we going to say?”
“Well, I would like to know whether this is a one time thing or not. It’s important to know whether they’ve done this before or plan to do this again.” Shane adds.
“They must be really embarrassed, they should be down here by now.” Kip continues to laugh.
“You laugh, but this basically means we are in-laws now.”
Now Kip stops laughing, “You're right, we'll see each other all the time!” He chuckles again, “I'm glad it's you guys, at least we already know each other. Plus, I kind of had a feeling they might like each other”
Scott chokes on his beer. “Really?”
“Really. He’s smitten with her, I promise. I’m sure he would say that when he gets down here.”
“If they ever get down here, they would probably stay in that room forever if they could”
“Anything to avoid an awkward conversation with their parents.”
“I would not know such things, my father paid no attention to whatever I was doing back in Russia.”
A few seconds later, all of them turn their heads to see Mason and Sofia holding hands and walking towards the kitchen island.
Ilya was not a fan of the PDA. “Unhand my daughter.”
After that, it was all a blur to Ilya, he remembers them gently scolding the two of them. There were apologies, then explanations, but none of it really reached him until after dinner and a quick talk with Sofia in their room. An hour later, he had taken a shower and walked out to see Shane on his laptop, with his back propped up against the headboard. He smiled at Ilya and patted his side of the bed, eagerly awaiting him to join.
He snuggled up to Shane, placing a kiss on the side of his head. “What are you looking at, moya lyubov.”
“It’s a parenting forum, I want to know if there is anything we need to do about Sofia.”
“You think we need to do more?”
“I don’t know, we didn’t do much when we caught Alex, maybe we should have. I don’t know, maybe i’m overthinking it.”
“Sofia is a good girl, she knows what she is doing. Talking with her, I realise that she is not different at all. She looks lighter now that she can be honest about her relationship.”
“I hope she knows she can come and talk to us. Alex has been much more open about his relationship and it has been great for us.”
Ilya still remembers hearing a shrill come from Alex’s room. As he exited his room and looked into the hallway, all he saw was Shane’s pale face walking towards him. Once Shane explained the situation, he had found it rather funny. Shane on the other hand, did not, he took it seriously, he had never experienced something like this before and had tried his best to have a conversation about it with Alex after the girl had left. The conversation had been a shit fest to say the least. He should have expected it, any conversation with Ilya and Alex would be bound for chaos, especially when it included sex. Neither Ilya or Alex had taken it seriously, which Shane did not appreciate.
Shane had sternly told Alex that any kind of activity like that was not tolerated in this household, especially when the family was around. Alex had quickly straightened up after that and it had never happened again. But even then, Shane still felt as if he had to do more, yet, he hadn't.
Ilya feels a tinge of guilt that he took Sofia’s situation more seriously, but he was really upset that she was growing up so quickly. He knew he was being foolish and reminded himself that this was normal, his daughter was growing up and she was going to want to find a boyfriend eventually. He would have to accept it, even if it was Scott Hunter's son, which had added a whole other layer of hurt and betrayal.
“Sofia is different, she is more quiet, I’m sure she will talk to her friends about it. And if she wants, she can also come to us.”
"I just want her to be happy." Shane confesses.
Ilya and Shane both turn their heads towards the door when they hear a faint knock.
“Daddy? Papa?” Ally calls out
“Come in solnyshko” Ilya answers.
The door knob turns and they see a sleepy Ally, clinging onto her stuffed bunny that Ilya had bought as a Valentines Day gift for Shane, but Ally had formed an attachment to the bunny that nobody could get them to separate. She slowly approached the bed and climbed up in between them, tucking herself under the blanket.
“I didn’t want to sleep alone tonight.” She whispered.
“You don’t ever have to sleep alone, honey. Me and Papa will always be here.” Shane whispered back.
She slightly smiled at that, and proceeded to doze off in less than 5 minutes. Shane and Ilya both on their sides, propped up by their arms.
“At least we still time before this one grows up" Ilya smiles.
